Intro
Today I will be teaching you how to get the achievement for flawlessly beating Jetstream Sam as well as an in-depth analysis on how all of his attacks work.

NOTE: I pretty much only use the standard HF Blade so that what I'll assume you are using as well.
If you use a different weapon, share any sort of tips and tricks you may have as to using it.
Phase One
The Opening
First things first: as soon as you start the battle, enter Ripper Mode and rush Sam.
While in Ripper Mode, Sam's guard will be easier to break and let you get some free hits in.
Remember to turn off Ripper Mode as well, it's faster to use a little, stop and let it get back up again than it is to let the whole thing drain.

Next, you're going to need to know what attacks Sam can do so that you'll be able to parry them.
You'll have a higher success rate of parrying attacks if you have an understanding of how they work and when they happen.

The Combo Attack
Sam's primary attack in Phase One is actually four different iterations of the same combo.
This is the fastest version of this combo, in this case parry again immediately after each slash.
This version is very similar to the first, you can use the same method of parrying as well.
In this version, Sam's pauses slightly in between the second and third slashes keep this in mind so that you aren't thrown off by it.
Also, he likes to immediately follow up this attack with another of his choice, watch out for that.
This is the longest iteration of this combo, for this one Sam sheaths his sword after the second slash and uses his explosive trigger to launch the third and forth slashes at you.
Since the pause for this version is so long, immediately trying to parry after the second slash won't work. The window for parrying an attack is shorter than the pause, so what you'll have to do is hit the parry button again during the pause thus parrying just in time for the third slash.

Now, it can be difficult to discern what version the combo Sam will do.
To be honest, it's not that much of a problem except for the 4th version. That's why it's important to parry a second time during the long pause. That way, you're preparing yourself for any situation.

Un-parryable Attacks
Attacks that are telegraphed with a bright white/yellow light can't be parried.
When he attempts one of these, all you have to do is jump. That's it.

Other Attacks

Sam has some other attacks that aren't as intuitive as the ones described above.
They're just a simple one hit parry deal, so I won't won't go into depth on them.

Entering Phase Two
Once Sam's health has gone down to around 65%, he'll lunge at you at break-neck pace.
When you parry this attack, you'll be prompted to enter Blade Mode.
Here, you swipe Sam's blade away from him; thus entering Phase Two.
Phase Two
During Phase Two, Sam only has three attacks he can do.

The Face Slam
The first one the easiest to dodge. Sam will lunge at you and attempt to slam your face into the ground. This attack is fully telegraphed and can be parried easily.

The Annoying Kick That I've Lost So Many Attempts To
Sam will more than likely attempt to kick you as soon as you get close to him.
Sometimes he does it, other times he doesn't, which really makes it hard to anticipate it coming.
My best advice is to block every time you see him move. In this case, it's better be on the defensive.

The Other Attack That I Have No Footage Of
Sam can also do another un-parryable attack similar to Phase One, but it's fairly rare.
Essentially what happens is that Sam will use Aikido or some ♥♥♥♥ and throw you behind him.
(He will also do this attack every time you try to sweep his legs. Therefore, never do it.)

Entering Phase Three
Once Sam's health drops below 50%, one of your attacks will trigger a quick time event.
Here, you just mash X. Sam will go to pick up his sword again and Phase three will begin.
Phase Three
Now here's where the fight gets difficult. Once you get used to the fight, you'll be able to get through Phase One and Two at a relatively decent rate. Phase Three is where i've lost the majority of my attempts.

The Triple Lunge
This is Sam's primary attack during Phase Three. A series of three lunge attacks.
Its a safe bet to parry when Sam is a decent amount away from you.
I've had several attempts lost due to Sam striking way earlier than I thought.
After three lunges, if he's not close to you he will taunt you, take this opportunity to deal damage.
However, if his third lunge ends with him right next to you, he will immediately follow up with an attack from Phase One. It's a good idea to stay aware of you're surroundings to ensure this doesn't happen.

The Jump Attack
Sam can do this attack in Phase One, but you'll see him do it a lot more during Phase Three.
It's relatively simple to dodge from a distance. However if you're too close, he can jump over you; causing you to parry in the wrong direction and taking damage.
That's why its best to not stay close for a long time and go for short bursts instead.
(As with the previous attack, if Sam's attack ends with him next to you, he'll instantly follow up with a Phase One attack.)

THE ♥♥♥♥ ING ROCK ATTACK THAT I HATE WITH A PASSION
The way this attack is supposed to work is that Sam will jump back and launch debris at you, prompoting you to cut up the rocks in Blade Mode.
But what ends up actually happening is that you're up close to him and he doesn't jump back; thus striking the ground and hitting you.
For the life of me I can't dodge this attack and as far as I know no one has been able to either.
So in order to win the fight, you'll either have to pray that Sam doesn't do this attack or you can use this SUPER SECRET ULTRA GOD MODE technique that I've discovered in my 3+ hours of
non-stop battling.

HOW TO WIN THE FIGHT
Essentially the way this works is that Sam discourages you running away from him.
So when you get a certain distance between each other, he will do a lunge attack every time.
You can exploit this by running away, parrying the lunge, getting some hits in, and running away again. You can repeat this for the entirety of Phase Three.

Finishing The Fight
When you finally manage to get Sam's health down to 10%, his next attack will play in slow motion and you'll be prompted with the Y and B QTE. After that, simply slash Sam's hand again and you've won.
End

bro tip for phase 2:
getting enough hits in will prevent him from kicking you. (ninja run+slash is typically the best strategy, being weary for long wind up attacks.)

I murdered Sam, thank you

am I the only person that dodges every attack (using offensive defensice) instead of parrying? parrying is too slow and only useful for his single lunge, three of his four combos and for... nothing else as everything else can be dodged. even that "lovely" rock attack. for those who dont know offensive defensive is unlocked after beating the prologue and is bound to the Z key or X + B/ Square + X on controller

i beat him by using wig a and the rocket launcher on phase 2, every time he went for a punch i blocked it and shot a rocket. it is very slow the rocket launcher only does .4 - .5 damage so it took about 80 rockets for me to get him down to like 10 percent.

honestly the first time i did him it took 13 minutes to beat, basically a few tries
i was using the sword i got from sundowner and with ripper mode the big charge attack did around 40% of his health on hard difficulty lmaoo

I love just standing there waiting for him to attack. It really creates a different type of fight with him.

I treat it like they did in the cutscene a duel.

you just need to not start phase two for an easier fight lmao, also, just use defensive offense or hold ninja-run, a direction, and do a heavy attack to flip or cartwheel in any direction, works just like defensive offense. easiest way to dodge the rocks, and any attack at all.
