History of Arcadia

Arcadia is the name given to a gravitationally bound system in the Draco constellation, approximately 1075 light years from the Sol system. Its F-type main sequence star is orbited by five planets. A single planet, Arcadia IV, lies in its habitable zone.

Arcadia IV is a lush world with green vegetation, blue oceans, and fluffy white water vapor clouds, not dissimilar from Earth. It has an orbital period of 449 days, and a sidereal rotation period of 31 hours.

In another time, Arcadia IV was catalogued by the NASA Kepler space telescope as the exoplanet KOI-4878.01.

--- LORE WARNING ---

It was another time. The year was 1989.

The Soviet Union had collapsed, and with it, thousands of accomplished scientists, military leaders, and politicians had mysteriously vanished.

When the United States scientists from DARPA discovered stack after stack of documents detailing time travel amidst the ransacked shelves of abandoned research facilities, they were shocked.

And so, when the multinational exploration teams stepped through the blinding white of the reverse engineered time machine frame, they emerged not only into a new time, but a new world. They emerged into the strange wilderness of Arcadia IV.

It was seven days later that an unexplained power overdraw caused loss of voltage to the time machine. The blinding white vanished, never to appear again. Nearly one thousand souls were trapped in Arcadia.

In the Earth year of 1885.

The first decade was difficult. The pioneers struggled to survive, battling six-legged alien fauna and seasonal monsoons. But over time, with careful planning, the population began to grow exponentially.

By the year 2077, the citizens of the Arcadia system number over 3 billion. Technological advances enable them to populate other planets and moons in the system, and spaceships with FTL travel and nuclear fusion drives have allowed Arcadia to become the world's first multi-solar civilization.

Formed from a coalition of the democratic nations that make up Arcadia, the ACFN keeps precious cargo and generation ships safe from pirates and slavers. They leapfrog from system to system, each leap closer to their home, Sol.

And when their recievers catch the first patchy radio transmissions in garbled Russian, they rejoice, unknowing that the worst of their struggles are yet to come...
