NATO Pioneer Company [PM]

The pioneer troop promotes the movement of its own troops in overcoming mine barriers, terrain and other obstacles. It is capable of building military bridges over bodies of water or terrain cuts. Other tasks include clearing rubble and barricades and removing destruction caused by war or disaster from roads, paths and other traffic facilities.

Due to their equipment, pioneers are able to directly support combat troops with explosives (in the Cold War also by means of flamethrowers) and to solve combat tasks themselves in case of emergency. The movements of the military opponent are inhibited and channelled by pioneers. To this end, pioneers are able to use military construction equipment, anti-tank mines and explosives to make important sections of terrain, roads and bridges impassable for a limited period of time. To this end, sappers can also reinforce terrain obstacles, create mine and tree barrages and special armoured obstacles, as well as trigger water dams.
