Contra War God Templar Build T1000+ DLC [1.40.1] Elixir update
By thinklikeacushion
My take on the Contra-War God Templar build, gear and choices set out, T1000 video and gear, then follows the T600 & T800 videos and gear choice.

Update to 1.40.1

So this build got a bit of a nerf but not too bad, and now we have elixirs! The video above is a T1000 clear on a variation of the build built for pushing, for anything lower than T800 the original build will work much better, because of the way large flat multipliers are better when mob HP is not too high. But once you start getting further in endless runs these kind of damage multipliers have less impact, and so we switch to using satellites with the matching Beast tech to give us another approach to scaling damage.

I've collected a few shots of gear choices:

Introduction + Videos
First I should say this build is a DLC adaptation of a build created by b z which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9MT3HB47ZI . They have made a load of other amazing Chronicon build guides, which are well worth checking out!

I'd also like to thank the Chronicon Discord for help and suggestions, and I just want to say how much I enjoy this game, the DLC has been a fantastic addition!

For some game play, this should give you an idea of how fun a T600 can be with a super nice layout, and over 2.5k mastery points:

Getting to T800 is a good challenge, and making sure buffs don't drop off, along with learning how to manage mob pack size and health will help a lot. The next video is longer, and goes over my gear at the end:

Gear choice
This shield enables one of the infinitely stacking damage sources we use, namely 20% increased damage from Shield Skills. The rune lets us spam our main skill Shattering Shield

Sadly the Mythical sword we get in the DLC doesn't present too many great options for a second rune. We make use of the +1 GR cap, but the second can be switched if you prefer. Note 4 attack speed gems used in weapon and off hand, this means we can break 375% attack speed to get 8 frames per second for our attacks.

War Gods set bonuses give us our second source of infinitely scaling damage, The helm rune has some good choices, I prefer Wyrick's for a good balance of defence and offensive power.

A wealth of choices for the armour rune here. I've gone with Spirit Guard as our mana on hit paired with the high attack speed gives us great sustain, also getting near T800 dropping a few mana gems for Evasion helped make it a bit more reliable, but early on I would think it's not needed.

Stormchasers adds a ton of dps, just make sure you hit that twister enchant on the sword. If you don't like twisters you can drop these boots and wear the Battle Boots and pick a rune of your choice, then swap to Hellfire enchant - you may find it gives you a smoother play-through, some even would argue better - but from my testing I preferred this set up. Both feel good to me. Either way make sure you get the 5% chance to interrupt stat - it's a massive gain for tankiness.

Fairly standard choice here, Mana -> DPS makes good use of those extra Mastery points. Rune is important too to our main skill. The gear we use will need 1 each of Extra Block Chance and Extra Damage Blocked to hit the 90/55 caps.

This set, in conjunction with the artifact 'Elementalist's Boon' give us a massive ele dmg boost - make sure to roll damage vs Elementals and the 4 gear pieces you can get it on. Taunt rune helps boost damage, and manage mobs during the run.

Make sure to get the Jeopardy rune here, we hit so fast the downtime will be very low. Also once you start hitting tougher anomaly runs, the chance to explode on death stat really shines. Learning to manage mobs health, pack size and chain pulling will pay dividends if done right.
Skills
Main skill tree.

Put enough points to get 3/3 Devotion for aura strength.

All the attack speed we can get.

Make sure to pick up Reflective Shield, it gets applied when we use the tome version of this skill.

We can get 10% damage stagger here, just to soften the blow of some large one-hit damage. Personally I find any more than that and it can cause as many deaths as it saves - but that's just my preference. Make sure to take the Overpower here, so we can hit the 100% cap. Depending on the rune in your armour you may want to balance health and mana.
Codexes and Artifacts

Gives us some physical res plus block chance.

Lets us proc Battle Boots for that damage reduction, plus more movement speed is always good :D

Massive damage boost when you roll Dmg vs Elemental on gear, and pair it with the All for One set.

I love this artifact for the quality of life it provides. Being able to herd mobs around without having to worry about taunting is so nice. However, there are a few other great choices here, so if you perfer something else go for it!

Great eHP boost.

Nice little boost across the board.
Combat buffed stats
Would like to see higher mana here, the more the better.

Can push evasion higher at the cost of damage by swapping more gems.

This is with 2.7k mastery points.
Final Thoughts
I have had a blast getting this to T800, and the boss ramp damage is crazy. It does suffer in speed however when it comes to general mob clearing past T600, but the build can be tailored to more tanky, or more dps as you progress, and what you feel like you're missing.

Also so long as you have the shield and the 3 pieces of War Gods, the build will always work. I tried a few different set-ups along the way, so make sure if you think something might work, give it a go! And in that spirit I would welcome any and all comments, critiques or suggestions for this guide.

In his T800 vid, his resistances are 50%
In his T900, abour 30+%

I think the build is not based on resistances

Also wondering where the elemental res is coming from. :) Appreciate the guide all the same.

Hey this builds super fun but where does the elemental res come from? I see you have them all capped but mine even with the aura active barely hit 40%. I am dying a lot a lot. What am I missing? :D

Hey StompinGoblin - I'd say this version of the build won't work without the DLC - a big source of its damage comes from the Artifacts that you only get with the DLC. But fear not! This is based on a pre-DLC build made by b v, and you can find their video guide here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9MT3HB47ZI - they also make a load of great other builds too, just check for 1.2 versions and earlier tho!
Good luck!

Is this build viable/usable without the DLC? I'm a pleb that hasn't bought it yet XD

Thanks for the guide! There has been two changes that I noticed due to new patches. 1.) Elementalist's Boon Star Artifact was nerfed from 300% to 250%. 2.) The Symbol of Hope Rhombus artifact does not physically count as skill points that would let you be able to put points in the next column of skills, preventing being able to put a point into Revenge on the Vengeance tab.

i wanted to throw together a build similar to this. i wanted to before looking through this guide, knowing it existed, but i just couldn't help myself. lol
looks super solid. there are just sooo many great templar setups. this will be my 4th gear setup that im going to throw together

question: have you tried comparing shattering shield vs molten shield? in sheer hits it seems like shattering shield would obliterate molten shield, if everything hits

Absolutely amazing build! I made it to Mythic 15 with some builds that I cobbled together by myself but doing endless dungeons felt like hitting a brick wall. I switched my templar over to this build and now it's smooth sailing.
