fallout 3 crash on start up fix for intel processor users
By Mismagius
NOTE: this will only work if you have nvidia geforce RTX installed in your computer. and pretty much any nvidia geforce RTX graphics will do. i'm not sure about the amd graphics since i haven't tested it but it should probably still work.

fallout 3 crash fix for intel processor users
so for those of you that followed this guide: https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2697645987 and did pretty much all the steps correctly and still couldn't get the game to start up after that first menu popup, here is a fix that will surely get the game working again.

step 1: go into your settings. you should be able to find it by typing in the word "settings" using the search bar thats at the bottom of the screen if your using windows.

step 2: once in the settings, search up "graphics settings" using the search bar there.

step 3: once your in the graphics settings, scroll down until you see "graphics performance settings" and then click on browse

step 4: once you click on browse, find a folder where the Fallout3.exe and FalloutLauncherSteam.exe are located in. it should be in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3 (or C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3 goty if you have the game of the year edition) by default.

step 5: select both of the Fallout3.exe and FalloutLauncherSteam.exe. once thats done, you want to then click on both the Fallout3.exe and FalloutLauncherSteam.exe and click on options and select "high performance" and click save which will make the game rely on whatever graphics card you have installed in your computer instead of the intel processors.

once you have done doing that, start the game up and you should be able to get passed that first menu that pops up when launching the game.

again, this will only work if you have geforce rtx or amd installed in your computer. if you don't have these graphics cards installed then i'm afraid this guide will not work if your having problems starting the game up if the intel processor is the only thing you have. hope this guide helps for those that are having problems getting the game running even after following the other guide i mentioned above.

@Bush Gremlin yes this is for windows 10. i don't know about windows 11...

is this for windows 10? because on windows 11 its simpler and everything set to hight performance still crashes

i think the simplicity is what kinda screws it over i cant find the actual file so

Well, I use Intel Iris (and Intel HD 3000 in my older machine) and there is a mod which overrides the GPU limitation for us Intel graphics users. Either way, cool help.

Just download the Intel graphics patch from Nexus.
