Resolving eye-strain
By Sir Slush
If your eyes hurt when playing Melody's Escape, this guide explains what I believe to be the cause and two potential solutions.

Why do my eyes hurt?
I believe the problem is that the objects (IE, orbs and arrows) have a slight stutter as they move. If your eyes are sensitive enough, then as you track the objects your eyes constantly start and stop moving very quickly, leading to strained eye muscles. The human eye is extremely sensitive, so this can very easily happen without your knowledge.
What can I do about it?
At this moment, I have determined three possible solutions players can use to solve the problem individually. The best solution would be to remove the object stutter entirely, but that may or may not be possible ( I am not a developer and do not know enough about this game to say.)

Solution 1: Decrease your screen resolution. It seems that, as the resolution decreases, so does the stutter. Playing on a windowed mode with lower resolution decreases the distance your eyes have to move and the amount of stutter they detect, and it's possible that they can stop detecting the stutter completely. Below about 600x400 resolution, however, the text for song selection becomes very difficult to read.

Solution 2: Focus on Melody rather than the orbs and arrows. Since Melody herself has very little movement along the game screen, and her animations are fairly fluid, focusing on her can significantly reduce eye strain. This option forces you to concentrate on the approaching orbs and arrows with only peripheral vision, but might be considered the best solution by many.

Solution 3: Limit your playtime. This sounds obvious and has been stated by many videogame publishers, but limiting your playtime is the best way to reduce eye strain.
Closing notes
I would like to point out that this is all conjecture of my own consideration, and nothing in this guide should be treated as medical fact or tested-and-proved hypothesis. This is simply what I have noticed, and what I have done to fix it.

I hadn't played in a few years and my set up is greatly improved over when i used to borrow mom's laptop a few years back XD. Reducing resolution really helped. Thank you for the post.

Decreasing resolution from 1440p to 1080p considerably helped the issue.

My eyes don't hurt, but I certainly get the "everything's moving" effect after playing for a few minutes.

I've got tourette syndrome, so if my eyes start straining then I start ticking more, like I start clicking real hard on the keys or something. Focusing on Melody instead of the arrows and only playing for like 10 minutes at a time tends to help a lot, thankfully.

I hadnt played in couple years and wondered why. Played maybe 2-3 hours today and got a bit of an eye strain and ''visual hallusinations''. I have some issues with my eyes so I think that has something to do with it. But I can play 30min-1hour without issues, so I'll try to limit my playtime in the future. The game itself IS great!

I don't know why this happens only with this game, because i play games in which i have to constantly move my eyes but the never hurt as much as when i play Melody

i think everything in blur 'cause we can't adjust this setting... for some players blur is too strong, and because of it, eyes get hurt

I also tried turning off the v-sync and that seemed to make the game a little easier for me, but I can't tell whether or not it's easier on the eyes.

I just try to sit back further from my monitor anyway more like I'm playing on a console, and I have an app that lets me change the brightness of the screen so I'm usually running it darker. I also wear glasses with digital screen protection and they help me look longer without getting too strained, but it's still possible to look at the screen too much no matter what.
