Introduction
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • This is not a remake, it’s a remaster created by fans, for fans.
  • The “resident evil 4 HD project” is a complete graphical remaster of the entire game. It includes enhanced textures, 3D models, menus, cutscenes, prerendered videos, lighting, visual effects, and more.
  • The HD project also fixes certain sound bugs and broken / missing effects, which arose mainly as a consequence of the many times the game has been ported through the years.
  • This package doesn’t include the entire game, only the files to upgrade the game.
  • You need to have an installed copy of the resident evil 4 PC port, released on Steam.
  • The HD project is compatible with all languages, including the Japanese version. It’s tested for version 1.0.6 & 1.1.0
  • Some mods are not compatible with this project. Please ask the modders who created your favorite mods to adapt them to the HD project if needed.
  • This HD pack won’t affect achievements or game saves.
  • BRIGHTNESS (in game Options) should be set to the MAX in order to get the best visuals.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Text instructions.
  1. Buy if you haven't already resident evil 4 on Steam and download it
  2. By default steam should download the 1.1.0 version (you can verify on the "press any button screen). If you have any other version installed it is recommended to head over the Betas tab on the steam properties and opt-out of any beta version you are in.
  3. Get the HD project from the links at the Download Links section of this guide
  4. Unpack the downloaded file. You’ll find 2 folders: ‘Bin32’ and ‘BIO4’.
  5. Find your game installation path. The usual path is:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Resident Evil 4
If you modified it you can head over the steam properties > Local Files > Browse... and a File browser window will open with the directory of the installation.
  6. Inside this folder, you’ll see the original ‘BIO4’ and ‘Bin32’ subfolders.
  7. Go to the downloaded ‘Bin32’ folder. Copy its contents and paste it inside the original ‘Bin32’ folder.
  8. Delete the original ‘BIO4’ folder.
  9. Copy the downloaded ‘BIO4’ folder and paste it in the ‘Resident Evil 4’ folder. DON’T OVERWRITE IT. DELETE THE ORIGINAL FIRST.
  10. Run the game. You’ll get a message that will warn you about the EXE file not being patched with the 4GBpatch. Click on “YES” to patch the EXE and restart the game.
And that’s it! You can run the game with all of the HD project improvements.

Don’t forget to read the “README” file inside the Bin32 folder! You’ll find out about new features and improvements that our colleagues “nipkow” and “emoose” have integrated to the game!

FUTURE UPDATES

Based on feedback and visual bugs people find, there will be future patches that correct these issues. If some major issue is found, an immediate patch will be released.

Data warning: The file size is 37,4 GB
My personal recommendation is to use the torrent links due to the file size. A good torrent clients is qtorrent [www.qbittorrent.org]

Direct download: Mega | MediaFire | NexusMods[www.nexusmods.com]
(Steam does not permit Mega or Media File links please head over the official website[www.re4hd.com] if you need to download them from there)

Unrar Password: re4hdproject [all lower case]

Regardless of whether you are downloading from Mega, MediaFire, or NexusMods, the files are the same. This means that you can combine parts downloaded from different sites. (This is useful if you reach some kind of download limitation for one site, and you want to download the rest from another site.) Uncompressed file size: 37,4 GB

Torrent links: Mirror 1 and 2 can be found on the official website right here[www.re4hd.com]| Mirror 3[drive.google.com]

If you are using the torrent method please do seed the files so the download will be faster for anyone wanting to download them as well.

One of the most convoluted guides I have seen.
Maybe trim out the bs that doesn't work anymore

@Cphas I actually have not tested it on the steam deck yet. I will give it a try tomorrow and try to update the guide as soon as possible!

when i download this im just getting bin files and an .exe file. no folders or anything... is this because im doing it on a steamdeck?

Not certain why, but it's taken an absurd amount of time each time I've attempted it with qtorrent. First time it got to around 21% after about an hour, with an ETA of around 3 more hours. Second time was even longer. I don't think I have that crappy of internet, so until it gets put back on Nexus mods again I'll have to wait. Thanks for the help regardless.

That is completely fine, I mean that reason of guides like this is to help people learn about stuff. Btw if you see people recommending torrent clients like μtorrent i would advice you to not use them due to the fact that they are in a way as adware. As of now qtorrent is the best open source option you have available.

I've never torrented anything, so please forgive my ignorance. Thanks for the information.

You don't unpack a torrent file... you just double-click it and it will load itself on your torrent client. Also, the torrent download downloads the files unpacked, exactly as you would have gotten them after you extract all of the archives.
If double-clicking does not work and you are sure you have a torrent client installed then go to File>Add torrent file... and then selected the .torrent file you downloaded from the website.
Renma91 3 Apr, 2022 @ 7:19pm
Well I'll most likely have to download them one at a time regardless since I've no idea how to unpack the torrent file.

@Leinad Zdc Take from the FQA of the website :
Will you be enhancing the audio of the game?
That is currently not in scope for the project. But we have faith in our coder colleagues. Maybe they can fix certain aspects of the audio in the future.
