As you can see, Hard Mode doesn't mess around. By the end of the stage I make a stupid mistake and lose my only shield point, effectively crippling my score for the rest of my (short lived) run.

I just love all the quirks and little things like the music taking a small pause along with the action as the mid-boss battle begins. Stuff like that shows the dev GETS the genre, understands its inner working and can provide a nice experience. Also notice how there is pretty much no story being spoon-fed or thrown in your face every bloody second, it all unfolds the old-school way, I freaking love it.

More into the mechanics, I'm playing in Burst Mode, which removes the simple bullet cancelling of Classic Mode and adds a bullet-clearing laser (which will turn bullets into important multiplier items) along with a Hyper Mode that makes attacks fiercer and doubles your score multiplier. Like I said, the score multiplier benefits a LOT from the graze counter so mistakes on that front are punished. Heavily. You've been warned, this is DoDonPachi kind of punishment with game-long chaining involved.

Also, at the beginning you can configure your weapon setup, power, lives, continues and shields. If you are playing on Hard and above and for score, better pump it all on fire power to get rid of enemies faster and avoid getting trapped in bullet clusters.
