Hi Total war fans,

I have made this mod for myself, being frustrated by the childish way battles were designed in Warhammer Total War 1 & 2.
I wanted to give them a more "realistic", strategic and epic feel, like it has always been in Shogun, Medieval, Rome and Empire Total War.

WHAT THIS MOD DOES

In a nutshell, it gives back the power to your troops and to a well planned strategy.

- There are now in average 3x more soldiers on the field, easily reaching over 10 000 troops per battle or more (given that you set unit size to "Ultra" in your options), because Warhammer and Total War series are about true battles, not petty skirmishes.

- Lords, heroes and monsters are no more "one man armies". They are in fact far more vulnerable and serve more as leaders and supports.

- Battles are slow paced, because troops now move much slower and armies are huge. This allows you to enjoy the spectacle and carefully plan your next moves.

- Accuracy of artillery and ranged units has been strongly reduced, to match real life battles. But when they hit and wound, they often kill the average soldier, and will severely wound any Lord, hero or monster. This matches the mechanics observed in all the historical Total War games.


IS THIS MOD BALANCED ?

From my perspective, yes. Each faction keeps its strengths and weaknesses, but power is transferred from Lords, Heroes and Monsters to troops and artillery. However mages stay extremely powerful : though there are far more troops to kill, all individual health pools have been divided by 4, which means that well timed and placed spells will cause a tremendous amount of casualties.

TO WHOM THIS MOD IS ADDRESSED TO ?

This mod should please old times Total war fans and tabletop wargamers, who emphasize on strategy and epicness, instead of quick and dirty skirmishes.

I sincerely hope that you will enjoy this mod as much as I do.

UPDATED Versions :

V2 (30.12.2021) : The Health of Monsters has been increased to compensate for larger number of soldiers in units.

V3 (23.01.2022) : Cavalry Speed and Manoeuvrability has been increased. In compensation, also greatly reduced the probability of infantry sent "flying away" during the impact of a cavalry charge.

Take what i say with a grain of salt since i tried this alongside other mods that suppose to make the battles slower too. Its indeed slower but battles are still too short compared to those of Total War Rome 2. And the enemy (in this case Archaon) was spamming magic like never before with extreme lethal effect. And before the mod. He didnt. Might be a coincidence though.

Combat legends pail in comparison to army legends, due to how much more variable each regiment is. This makes it so only mounted legends have any chance of actually getting in and doing something. Same goes for heroes. The reason I have a problem with this is that it effectively nullifies stat management through items, which I find is one of the more interesting parts of the game.
Single-entity monsters are very hit-or-miss, though it's clear that speed is a significant reason why some are strong and others are not. They can still manage fine in combat, but do very poorly in auto-resolve.

Overall though, it's a really good mod and I hope you take care of it! I enjoy playing massive-scale battles so-so much.

Really dope mod! Some issues I've noticed, though;
Unit count affects slaves captured whilst playing Dark Elves, making their economy boom (and sort-of unmanageable in the early-game). This also affects income from battles, though since it's universal it doesn't really matter.
Chariots do not follow proper orientation while microing them, making them trip over themselves.
Combat legends, heroes, and monstrosities are too weak. (Though this may just be a preference).
Monstrous units (specifically, things like DOS, ogres, etc.) have way too much health, from what I've seen. They're not impossible to take down, but having one regiment with 20,000 health while most regiments have around 8,000 is too much. (1/2)

Tested... didn't really work... the battle with this mod (using 2 armies of 40 units each) only lasted 4 minutes...
