THE MOST AUTHENTIC LEFT 4 DEAD NO MERCY CAMPAIGN PORT YET
Fully restored to be as 1 to 1 with the original Left 4 Dead as possible. Details that were broken by Left 4 Dead 2's inherent differences are fixed. There are tricks and exploits possible here that have not been possible in Left 4 Dead 1 since 2008 due to patches and updates. This is old, old No Mercy.

PLAYABLE IN VERSUS MODE
For the first time ever, face off in versus mode on the original hospital rooftop. This isn't even possible in Left 4 Dead 1.(details below)

~ Achievements (11) ~
There are new achievements in this campaign. But not real achievements, sorry :c These are Vscript achievements that print to chat along with a sound to be played. They can be achieved by performing various tasks that were only possible to do in L4D1.

~ Versus ~
This campaign is playable in Versus mode. Yes, the L4D1 co-op only version of No Mercy is now playable in L4D2 Versus. Maybe with this we'll know why Valve made a separate Versus variant for each of the L4D1 campaigns.

There are less infected ladders and no player infected clips. So if you can't climb to a rooftop because there's no ladder, tough luck. Unless you're a Hunter. You can pounce anywhere you want as a Hunter since there are no clips to stop you.

Although I made no direct gameplay changes, I did texture a lot of rooftops, backalleys and buildings that are not able to be seen by survivors, but can be accessed by infected. This is so that player infected can see where they're going, and what they're walking on when in these areas. The skybox above the alleyways in Map 3 behind the Burger Tank is more enclosed in this version, so I've put wrong-way signs here for infected to know that these areas are solid and not passable.

~ Notable differences from L4D2 ~
- Finale rooftop area layout.
- Rescue closets in Finale area.
- Grenade spawns do not interchange grenade types on different playthroughs - this means that pipebomb spawns are always pipebombs, and molotov spawns are always molotovs.
- Director spawned tier 2 weapons only spawn in a group (Assault Rifle, Autoshotgun, Sniper Rifle) at one of a set number of locations in a given map - You will not find lone tier 2 weapons at intermittent locations like in L4D2.
- Warehouse door in Map 3 is breakable by shove (takes approximately 64 shoves to break), melee weapons, and grenade launcher allowing the lift panic event to be skipped.
- Position/amount of infected ladders.
- Three "breakable" walls on Map 4 are not actually breakable (unless by a Tank), causing bot infected to congregate at the wall if survivors are on the other side. These walls are bangable in older versions of L4D1, but not in the current Steam version.
- Water in the sewer does not slow down survivor movement speed.
- Navigation mesh exploits are still present, but may not work exactly as they did in L4D1. This is due to differences with how L4D2 handles bot navigation. (Be careful with those old God spots!)

~ Notable restorations ~
I used L4D1's SDK maps as a base, but had to use decompiled v.1.0.0.0 maps as reference. The SDK maps are updated versions and do not accurately reflect Left 4 Dead's November 17, 2008 "launch day" maps. There were a lot of clips and exploit blocks that I had to revert based on the differences that I could compare with Version 1's maps, as well as gameplay footage that I could find from 2008 documenting old exploits and glitches.

- Fixed survivor start orientation in Map 1 when players gain control of their character after intro cinematic. A bug in L4D2 caused the survivors to start, facing the wrong way. (*L4D2)
- Fixed truck headlight beams on Map 1.
- Fixed areaportals in Map 1.
- Restored rain effect in Map 1 intro cinematic (only visible when Effect Detail is set to High).
- Navigation mesh has had all relevant place names assigned to spawn L4D1 common (and uncommon) infected using TLS update place names.
- L4D1 props and textures (saferoom doors, miscellaneous props, ambulance, white van, Pennsylvania license plates, trash). This includes some prop collision meshes.
- The lift on Map 3 needed to have it's sounds restored by transplanting the appropriate entities from the c8m3_sewers L4D2 map.
- Disallowed jumping while on the lift in Map 3 as it rises, and in the elevator on Map 4 when going up as jumping was not possible in these instances in L4D1. A workaround was needed here by placing a "no jump" trigger volume in these areas that are enabled and then disabled with correct timing to mimick this function from L4D1.
- Elevator skip in Map 4. I had to use a workaround to make this skip possible. In L4D1 the player will clip through the floor of the elevator as it reaches the bottom. In L4D2 it would cause the player to become stuck and eventually die from being crushed. My workaround for this was to establish a teleport system that teleports the player into the elevator as it touches the player's head if the player is in the correct position. The effect is subtle and feels almost identical to how the skip worked in L4D1.
- The breakable door to the "Jesus Room" in the Finale map is now ACTUALLY breakable by infected, letting common infected target and attack it if they get close enough. This had been patched in the SDK map so I reverted it to v1.0.
- Finale map ledge exploit spot. I removed the clips around these ledges to allow access to them again.
- Ration crates under the helipad ramp in Finale map have been removed, allowing access to under the ramp again.
- Original chapter select image panels from L4D1 v1.0.0.0.

I wonder if it's possible to have this map replace or redirect from the stock No Mercy on the campaign list for hosting purposes, without having to go into the addon campaign page or replacing the map entirely.
