⠀⠀  I already wrote a guide about Tainted Cain, but after the last update it is no longer relevant.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Update regarding Tainted Cain:

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀         Update v1.7.5
  • Now you can buy pickups by using bag of crafting

  • Updated Tainted Cain's recipe system to allow golden pennies, golden pills, golden batteries and poop pickups

  • Tainted Cain's crafting recipes are now slightly more consistent (high quality pickups are more likely to yield high quality items)

  • Most of Tainted Cain's crafting recipes are now generated based on the seed of the current run, aside from a few fixed recipes

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀  From the above, it is clear that some recipes remain unchanged.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   Therefore, I will describe them in this guide.

would it be best to get a demon bum before even trying to craft q4?

Craft sharp plug; piggy bank; fanny pack and D20 as early as possible. As soon as you have those 4 items you can consistently and easily break the game from Floor 3 or so without any difficulty. Since (in my experience) I didnt EVER drop bone hearts; despite picking up glitched crown, d infinity and about 4 others Q4 secret-room exclusive items from the secret room FROM PEDESTALS. As such, you have to do 5 T-cain runs minimum as, as far as I am aware, you can't get bone hearts at all anymore(?) to craft R-key.

this is a really nice overview! although you should also add that tainted cain now picks up an item in the death certificate area instead of turning it into pickups
