How usable is the backscatter?
By TheDapperPenguin
I love the backscatter, but how bad is the 20% less accuracy? I took about an hour to do some light testing. I tested the spread on a wall across 4 shots, and the average damage on a soldier from different ranges. please note that I don't do these things often, so if you have any different test results, please let me know so we can go over them and get better results. These results may surprise you. :D

Wall shots test
I started with an accuracy cone for each gun at close, mid, and far range. the main difference is the backscatter has a slightly larger cone, and more stray pellets. In general your spread will be larger, but you don't notice it until mid range, where scout is only chipping away
Shots average damage
I then spawned a soldier at the door and turned his movement off, marking down each shots damage. I have a image dump of damage numbers but for now ill use the average and add a text dump on another section, as well as put images of the ranges that i used on TR_walkway and where I lined up on the wall.

Face shot

Average damage was as you would expect, a lot

-Scattergun average: 98
-Backscatter average: 97

Close range

Here is where we start to see stray shots miss the target, at this range, you might miss one or two on your meat shots, whit the scattergun being a little more consistant

-Scattergun average: 70
-Backscatter average: 65

Mid range

The main problem here is consistency, the scattergun almost always was in the 30's to high 40's. the backscatter on the other hand was between 55 and 12 damage per shot, and the spread wildly changed the numbers on every shot, dont be fooled by the average, your shots at mid range are terrible.

-Scattergun average: 35
-Backscatter average: 32

You're starting to move into chip damage here, but the average starts to even out since most pellets don't hit on the scattergun here too. however the consistency of the backscatter will still be a problem.

-Scattergun average: 18
-Backscatter average: 15
Personal opinion after using it
I love this gun, new scouts can use it to train how to play scout, the accuracy isn't as bad as it looks. The mini-crits come into play fairly often if your smart and will get you kills, and a mini-crit kill will always trigger a dopamine hit. give it a try for a bit, you'll enjoy it.
Damage average text dump
Here's the numbers from each shot i took on a soldier. I need to do more to get a full sample size but I don't want to yet.
