By Chill Will and 1 collaborators
LEFT PEEKING is a very DANGEROUS and CURSED knowledge but you can very easily utilize it in everyday gameplay situations.

Intro
Edit 1/17/2024: This was patched in 1.12, it technically still exists in the game but is not nearly as pronounced as it was for the like, 5 or so years it existed in the game. Keeping the guide up though 'cause I like it.

Have you ever been looking at a window where you KNOW a hunter is and by the time you see your enemies hat all of a sudden you're already dead?

WELL ALLOW ME TO TELL YOU WHY THAT HAPPENED!
What is LEFT PEEKING?
So in this game there is a very neat thing that most people call LEFT PEEKING and works something like this:

https://imgur.com/nz86sTa
Image not mine I found it on reddit and I've no idea who it belongs to.

Now you may have noticed something odd about this image. When PEEKING to the RIGHT you can see him just fine! However, when he is PEEKING to his LEFT it shows only his shoulder and hat is visible yet he can still shoot you in the face! Isn't that a neat absolutely intentional gameplay mechanic?
How do you use this CURSED KNOWLEDGE?
Well how does an average player use this in battle? Well I want you to put this rule into your brain and store it permanently so that even if they do fix it one day you will still follow it out of instinct!

PEEK LEFT, NEVER PEAK RIGHT UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!

When advancing on a position:

PEEK LEFT

When creeping around a corner:

PEEK LEFT

When attacking from the woods:

PEEK LEFT

When simply walking around:

PEEK LEFT

When doing literally anything:

PEEK LEFT

AS A GENERAL RULE OF THUMB ALWAYS PEEK LEFT
In conclusion
This useful and CURSED KNOWLEDGE will assist you in everyday gameplay and more than likely secure yourself a few more kills than you would have had if you didn't know how to:

LEFT PEEK

Always remember that rule I taught you, and have fun in your hunt!

never peek left, the hunter is always right handed so to peek left would expose most your body and head to being shot, since the hunter is always right handed, if u peek right then the gun is already partial to that side leaven you with not having to expose alot of your body to get a safe peek and shot

so i need to peek left?

To the people asking, this happens because the camera is placed on the left side of the characters chest. It's not in the head as you'd expect. You can notice this placement best when someone is very close to you and aiming at your head. To you, it will appear as though they are aiming above you. I have no idea why the camera is in the chest, though...

This could be fixed but developers are too lazy to fix the camera position for aiming animation. I will be missing this feature so much if they decide to fix it.

@Ainess No, third person. It's gotta be some weird thing with how the camera is placed and the animations being seen not necessarily being synced well and is only really noticeable in a left peek. idk that's the theory I keep seeing thrown around.

If you mean the 1st person animation such as reloading etc., those do not correspond to the 3rd person animations. They are custom-made for 1st person, so I can´t see how it would change anything if the camera just moved to the center.

@BananaBob It's pretty much just because of the placement of the player camera and the animations paired with them. It likely will never get fixed because it would be a bitch to modify those things and not worth the effort.

but why is this? technically?
