Umgebindehouses (Set of 10 Assets)

Kuvaus
A large set of so-called Umgebindehouses

This is a large set of houses native to a large area between Silesia and Thuringia, called Umgebindehouses for a lack of a better term. They are a special style of housing combining German half-timbered architecture and Slavic wood cabins.

This asset has been made specifically for my YouTube-series Vedastein, a small picturesque German town in a fictional version of the Elbe (Veda) valley.

In this set included are 10 different houses in various designs and sizes, of which 7 are low density residential and 3 are low density commercial.

Every house has a 2m deep foundation with stairs at every entrance beneath it. This is to support the use in mountainous terrain, which comes close to the original location of these houses.

Very beautifully done. I love these houses. Exact description also. These houses are found in that larger area, with a big concentration in the Erzgebirge, Czech north and west Sudetenland and the Lausitzer gebirge (Lužicke hory). It is a typical and beautiful example of the meeting of Germanic and Slavic ancient architecture. In a way also Roman architecture. But only a little bit. Because it were the Romans who introduced the stone based foundations to the Germanic build. Before, the wood was placed on the ground, which caused rot. Originally, all the houses had thatched roofs though. Fully, or half thatched. Gradually richer owners had less thatch and more stone roofs until the industrialization made stone roofing (clay or stone) more readily available and cheaper. The older these houses are, the more framework is used and the smaller the windows are.

They look great! Love the way you did the foundations. I’ll have to pretend they are eccentric Brit houses for my build.
