Using Spectator mode

Requirements

1. You must be dead.
2. The match must be in progress, not in pre-game before setup. Otherwise, you'll just be staring at your own corpse until your respawn timer ends when you attempt this.

Using Spectator mode

Note: This only works on your team. You cannot spectate the enemy team with this.

Enabling Developer Console

Keybinds you will need:

bind <key> spec_prev (Spectates the previous person) bind <key> spec_next (Spectates the next person)

Save this in a cfg file, preferably your autoexec.cfg file. When toggled, it will continuously extend your respawn timer until turned off.

Alias "t_loop" "loopON" Alias "loopON" "alias t_loop loopOFF; alias loop2nd loopcommands; loopcommands" Alias "loopOFF" "alias t_loop loopON; alias loop2nd" Alias "loopcommands" "extendfreeze; wait 200; loop2nd" Alias "loop2nd" "loopcommands" bind <key> "t_loop"

Step 1: Killbind. "kill" or "explode" in console and wait until you see "Respawn in:"
Step 2: Toggle your spectator bind
Step 3: Congratulations! You are now using spectator mode. If you wish to leave spectator mode, either wait out your timer or do "retry" in console.

Here's an example of someone extending their respawn timer, albeit less efficiently

How to extend the spectate timer:
1. Die & spectate someone
2. Enter *menuopen* in console
3. The timer will count down to 0 but will reset back to 10 seconds and never run out

Once you're done spectating, go to the class selection screen and re-select the character you're playing as to respawn.

Apparently you can go to class selection and stay there unspawned - and with using custom hud that makes class selection transparent, you can keep spectating selected player. Might help.

1. join server
2. open console by pressing the ~ button and type: autoteam
3. hit enter
4. open cosole again and type: join_class 0
5. hit enter

you can now spectate either players from blu or red depending on what team the server puts you
