From what I remember, I moved the colonies to provide easy access to the other continents for the infection phase, but it's true that it costs time. Maybe staying in Africa for a while is worth it - it's certainly worth considering.
I think you might be torturing yourself with Parasite though. If you used Patho-stasis instead of Sympto-stasis, that might be the problem since I got a score of 80k with Sympto-stasis. Either that or I just got insanely lucky and didn't even know.
Also with the Simian flu, having five colonies (Central Africa, West and East Africa, Sudan and India) instead of six and leaving them where they were was more effective and fast than moving them around since it used less DNA, but I had to move one colony to Canada, because it's Canada.
