Battle Royale: Installation and Gameplay Guide [Updated]
Por Grishyy
Battle Royale is a custom multiplayer gamemode for Arma 3. It's both very fun and very competitive. It's also rather challenging. I've frequently seen people struggle with this, so I've decided to type up a guide on the gamemode and it's mechanics. Don't forget to rate this guide, so that more people can see it, and more people will play this gamemode.

Introduction
-Updated 19th March 2015
(Thank you Carl the Cat for reminding how outdated this was)

Battle Royale is a custom gamemode designed for Arma 3, based off such books and movies as Battle Royale (as titled), or the more popular Hunger Games. This gamemode pits between 24-36 players on the island of Stratis, a 19.3 squared-kilometre fictional Greek island based in the Mediterranean Sea. Once the minimum player count is reached (24), the game will take 1 more minute to load in all the loot spawns, vehicles, and other scripts, as well as allowing extra players to join. Then every player is taken onto a plane, which explodes in the middle of the island, forcing everyone to eject, and parachute down. Once on the ground, each player must find themselves weapons, bags, first-aid kits, explosives, and camoflauge, and then they must hunt each other down. There is a maximum timeframe of 1 hour, and every so often, the play area will grow smaller and smaller, forcing all players to get closer to each other, becoming more aware and more alert of their surroundings. And the game will continue to do so until either the 1 hour timer is up, or if only 1 player remains in the game. It's a fun mix of Arma 3's gunplay and stealth mechanics, while adding a more casual run-and-gun feel to the game, giving the best of both genres of gameplay. It's also a nice way to quickly learn the lay of the land, how each gun feels, comfortable engagement ranges, and how to understand cover and stealth. It's a gamemode I'd suggest everyone play a couple of times before deciding whether they like it or not.
Installation
-The old way is now obsolete. Battle Royale now only updates through A3 Launcher. I've updated the installation guide with the new way to install and launch Battle Royale.

Gameplay
If you're unfamiliar with Arma 3 and how to play effectively, I strongly suggest you play singleplayer showcases or even the campaign, and watch some of Dyslecxi's videos.
But here's a list of things you can do that will actually improve your performance ingame;
  • Always use cover. Never sit in the open. Use rocks and bushes to hide you, or sit behind barricades. While moving along a hill, walk with the hill to one side of you, so that you are atleast covered on that side of your body, and your main focus is your exposed side.
  • When moving long distances, frequently duck in and out of cover, and crouch-walk as much as you can. This will leave you less exposed, and harder to hit.
  • Conserve your ammo. Do no fire full-auto unless you are in very close range (less than 50 metres). Firing in semi-auto will help with ammo and recoil management.
  • Understand engagement ranges. Certain weapons will have bullet drop-off and shorter ranges than other weapons, so it helps to understand these ranges. The custom M4A1 has a drop-off range of 200m, whereas the AK-74 has a drop-ff range of 300m. The SDAR has a range of 100m, however it's designed for underwater use, and is a rather useless gun. Most SMG's have a range of 100m, and handguns have a range of 25m (50m for revolver). The Katiba rifle has an adjustable range, between 100m and 600m (Press Page Up and Page Down to adjust this). Some other weapons also have adjustable. The weapon will tell you in the top-right of the screen when you press F. Note that pressing F will also switch firing modes. If you're unsure what the range of your target is, find approximately where he/she is on the map, mark it on the map (Shift+Left Click), and round that up or down to the nearest 100m (someone at 180m will be rounded to 200m, whereas someone at 120m will be rounded to 100m). Not everyone will be a perfect shot the first time they use a gun, so some testing will be necessary.
  • Avoid going to the same place other people are going. There are plenty of military complexes around the map, and civilian buildings will also spawn the items you need (ableit less frequently). Often people will rush to Air Station Mike as it's the closest area. The first to that tower will be the victor, and often 5-10 people will die at the start of the game because of this. Try to avoid this area.
  • Hide. Along with using cover to your advantage, it will also help to stay hidden, unseen and unheard. The less people know where you are, the safer you are. Sometimes camping an area is useful.
  • Take caution when entering buildings. If a door is left open, then a player has been there. If multiple buildings are left open but a single one near there is closed, it is very likely that a player is hiding in that building. However there is another possibility; it could be mined. Mines are a useful tool in this game. You can use these to your advantage, or if you're not careful, you could die to one. Think of it like a trap that is neither benevolent nor malevolent.
  • Have fun. Remember, it's just a game. Some people will be better than you. Some people will be worse than you. Don't get angry about losing a game. It may suck, but you should instead congratulate the winning player, and then play again. I feel obliged to include this because a friend of mine quit simply because he was the first to die in our group 2 games in a row. He quit. For good. I don't want others to feel like this. I agree that it sucks when you give a game all you have and sometimes you don't make it. But you should never give up because of that. Instead you should enjoy what you had, plan ahead about what you want to do and where you want to go, and then play another round. The point of games is for entertainment.
Understanding The Map
Learning the map is very useful for both navigating around and knowing what cover you have in certain areas, as well as knowing where good items spawn. Clicking here[i.imgur.com] will direct you to an image containing the majority of loot spawns.
Finale
I hope this guide has been helpful. Remember, this is only a guide, and to become good at the game, you need practice. Take the time to improve on your tactics. I'm not a proffesional Arma player, and I can play quite effectively. You can too. Remember the time old quote; "Practice Makes Perfect".

Now go out there, kick some arse, win some games, and (ofcourse) have fun.

[Edit] I'm going to throw this here so it isn't cluttered with everything else. If you're struggling to find a server using the ingame browser (as it can be oddly specific at the worst of times), try clicking here[arma3.swec.se] and type battleroyale into the Mission Filter. It will list every Battle Royale server available. Then all you need to do is copy the IP (eg 119.252.190.96 (this IP is for the AUS 3 Battle Royale server)), clicking the Remote button in the ingame multiplayer menu, and pasting it there (CTRL + V). That will show that server specifically. This is a guaranteed last resort if the normal server browser will not show the servers.

@Morgoth Not sure about that one. Those items weren't part of the game when I made the guide. I may need to update this if I can.

@Imrazir yeah A3launcher can be selective of what works and what doesn't. I'd prefer Workshop for downloads, mainly because download speed is better than A3launcher, but most mods I want aren't on Workshop.

@Grish Thanks for responding to my comment. It's not too big of a deal because that's how I have been playing the game so far. I just tried out A3Launcher a little while ago for mods like exile and I was a little frusterated I couldn't start Battle Royale from A3Launcher myself when I have seen videos online with Battle Royale in other peoples mod tab.

@Imrazir You can try the Steam Workshop link. I'll include it in the download section of this guide. I didn't know it existed until just a few minutes ago lol.
