By Jaidy
Here's a short little guide on how to make some quick and easy good looking and functioning modern units. This will cover camouflage, armour, helmets, weapons, backpacks and more! Resources will also be provided for your own use.
This is the 2021 follow up to my first guide!

Introduction!
Hiya! Greetings! Welcome to my little guide on some units. Let's start out with the custom unit creator. We have a naked unit right here ready to be transformed into a nice looking modern soldier.
Keep in mind, this is being made at July 2021. By the time you read this, there may be tons more content to use, and if there is, make sure to use it!
Camouflages
Now, there are loads of different camos to choose from. You could make one, or find a real one, or use someone else's. But you want to make sure it matches. You don't want a snow camouflage unit running around in a desert! Here I'm using a basic Multicam pattern. It's in my camouflage collection folder under the name "SAS Poly".
Gloves & Shoes
Now we need some gloves and shoes. I'm here using the modern boots. I find it looks best to use the same colour, but its not required. It's a tan colour because I think it looks nice with the camo and the armour in the future.
Armour & Plates
Now we need some protection. I'm here using the soft body armour. You don't have to recolour it, but I did in this example. Same with the plates, I like to use the same colour. Make sure to only use the top arm plates, and not bottom arm plates. Like I said in my old guide, no one uses that much armour, and it doesn't look great.
Backpacks
There are a bunch of backpack to choose from. I used the future backpack, cause its very slim. If you want to use it, make sure to recolour it as it looks very futuristic, obviously. Theres also the world war bag great for medics, and the flamethrower backpack if you want to give a unit the flamethrower. I'll show a back view picture in a minute.
Headgear
Now, all that's left for cosmetics is headgear. This bit's up to you, but variation is key. Heres a couple options really quick.

Make sure to mix and match everything if you need variation. You can use any helmet or headgear if it looks ok. I'm gonna be continuing with the last example.
Weapons & Gear
Now this one's pretty up to preference, but if you need some guide heres some tips:
Country weapons: ARX (ARX160) - Italy, S4 (M4A1) - United States, S12 (AK-12) - Russia, S36 (G36C) - Germany, S553 (SG 553r) - Switzerland, S8-X (Xm8) - Malaysia, S416 (Hk416) - France
General: You can use the S16 (M16A1) and S47 (AK47) For most private organizations and non-first world countries. As far as snipers are concerned, I usually use the SR51 (Tango 51) for most bolt action snipers, but you can often use the RS50 (Bushmaster 50) instead or some WW2/1 rifles. I also sometimes use the Improvised Sniper in place of an AI AWM. Shotguns are pretty straightforward, theres pretty much only the Pump-Action (Mossberg 590), Trench (M1897 Trench) and HSG12 (Vepr-12), but you can often use the Improvised Shotgun or the SG11 (Remmington model 11) aswell. Same with pistols, although the F226 (P226) and P80 (Beretta 92) are always great for military/police, P1900 (FN Model 1900) is great for fillers, and P1911 (M1911A1) and G18 (Glock 18) are great for everything else. LMGs too are pretty basic, just use whatever you want. You can also throw in the MG D (RPD) for chinese/russian LMGs, and the MG60 (M60) is a great filler. Also the MG42 works great as an MG3.
SMGs are whatever you want basically, but AP5s (MP5A3) and AP7s (MP7) are great.
Heres this for reference if you ever need. https://ancient-warfare-3.fandom.com/wiki/Modern

I'm selecting the ARX for this unit cause I think it looks nice. It also is fitted with attachments. I'm also giving the unit the Ammokit for resupplying.
Stats
To make your units more fun, It's always recommended to crank the engage and attack distance as high as you want. 120-150 is great for open maps, and is usually where you want to be. You don't have to change anything else unless you want a weaker/beefer unit, or to make it taller or shorter.
Results
And here is the finished unit! I think it looks pretty good, and works well in gameplay.

You can even give it a cool passive pose for the thumbnail of this guide!
Remember, you don't have to always use what I did in this guide. It's all what you want and what you think looks good. But here's just some basic tips to getting them looking a bit better.
You can also use any camo, any colour, in any environment!

Thank you for reading my guide. I don't know if I'll make any more but I could if they're needed. If you have any questions or want access to my super secret stash of real life camouflage patterns, my discord is jfx²#7599. Have a great day!

keep in mind this guide is legitimately 3 years old. good units are now determined by things like custom modelled equipment and other things

I've been thinking about doing a battle where two armies are fighting in two trenches across the map. This is helpful for any gun-based faction, such as the World Wars.
