How to detect secret wall/doors
In order to see a secret wall/door, you must either:
  • Have a hireling in the party, which is capable of detecting secrets:
    Rosalie - found at the Chapel of Elrath in Soprpigal-by-the-Sea (10,13)
    Quest NPC, detect traps, secret doors and enemies
    Spike - found in Yon-Chall Forest on Agyn Peninsula (59,72)
    Quest NPC, detects secret doors, decrease the difficulty opening them by 25%
  • Have an active spell Whispering Shadows (Dark, Novice)
If you have party banter enabled, one of your characters will say "What's this?" when you are 1 step away from the secret wall/door.

How to open secret doors
In order to open a secret door, face it and press the USE button. The game will prompt you to select a character with whom you'd like to try to open the door. Depending on the symbol outlined on the wall, a different attribute is needed to open it:
  • Crack = Might
  • Gears = Perception
  • Key Hole = Magic
Pick the character specializing in the required attribute and you should be able to open the secret. If the attribute value is not high enough, the character will take a large amount of damage that cannot be resisted. If this happens, there a couple of options to temporarily buff your attributes:
  • Spells
    - Inner Fire (Fire, Expert) - Might
    - Eagle Eye (Air, Expert) - Perception
  • Well Rested - 10% bonus to all attributes
    - Sleep at an inn
    - Rest with Kengi as a hireling - found at the Goblin Watchtower in Sorpigal-by-the-Sea (16,14)
  • Hour of Power - (+X to Might, Magic, Perception, Destiny)
    - As a blessing at a Maiden Statue (+10)
    - As a spell (Prime, Grand Master)
  • Equipment - shuffle equipment around to buff a single character
All of the above effects stack, so if you're struggling, try to get as many as possible before trying again.

In order to find the secret in the Spider Lair, either A) hire Rosalie out of the Chapel, or B) something something MIGHT something I don't know about.
