NOW TAKING SUBMISSIONS FOR SCREENSHOTS! If you have a great screenshot of the chicken coops, your custom buildings, your pig farm, your barns, or anything else please DM me with your screenshot and you could have your photo and name added to the guide!

Thank you for clicking on my guide! Below is information that I have compiled from the Ranch Sim official Discord, videos from other players, and my own gameplay. I fully expect a lot if not most of this information to change over the course of early access but I will attempt to keep this updated.
Animals
At the time of writing this (10/18/22), there are five types of animals available for raising in this game: Chickens, Pigs, Cows, Goats and Horses.

Not counted as livestock in my book but also in this section are bees.

Chickens can live inside of coops, in a barn, in a free range manner using fences or buildings, or any combination of these.

Pigs, Cows, Goats and Horses can live in a barn or free range in player-made corrals or buildings.

All animals will attempt to escape any open door or gate whether this be in a barn (even in the barn cells), a coop, or a fence gate. They will somewhat wander back to get food and water from wherever you have it placed but don’t count on this.

All animals do go to sleep between about 21:00 and 8:00. During this time, pigs and cows can be woken up using the manage tool but chickens will fall asleep again if you put them down. Horses can be woken up by whistling at them (H).
Chickens
Chickens are available from the General Store for purchased and can be placed into any vehicle to be transported to your ranch. Hens are $50 each and Roosters are $250 each. They are each available in three colors and chicks will be the same color as the mother that laid the egg.

The roosters are available in two colors.

When kept in mixed company, roosters will fertilize an egg left by the hens at around 10:00am-10:30am. This is typically one egg per rooster.

All hens will lay a single egg each in the afternoon between 16:00-16:30. These eggs can be gathered individually by hand or with the egg basket which you can buy from the General Store for $10.

Chickens will eat bags of wheat from the general store. These are purchased for $30 per bag.

These wheat bags can be placed into a trough or spread by pressing E on the bag when it is placed on the ground. Your chickens will also need water either placed into a water bowl or out of a filled bucket. (Buckets could be either wood or steel, both purchased at the General Store for $8 each.) You can also use the granary building to automatically fill the troughs and the windmill to fill the water bowls automatically.

Chickens can be killed using the handgun or the stunner which is available at the General Store for $439. They can then be skilled and produce chicken or rooster meat. This meat can be sold or made into meatballs or sausage.

Breeding Chickens
To distinguish between fertilized and unfertilized eggs you would need to utilize an Ovoscope. These are available for $100 at the General Store.

The eggs are placed in one of four slots and when the ovoscope is turned on, the egg will illuminate which will allow you to see if there is a dark spot on the egg with veining around it.

One other trick to tell if an egg is fertilized is to pick it up and wait for the mother to attack you. The developers have confirmed that you cannot die from a chicken attack but it will splatter blood all over your screen so at least you’ll know you’ve been bit.

Fertilized eggs will take three days to hatch in to a chick and 5 days after to grow into an adult. These chicks can grow into either a hen or a rooster but hen seems to be the most common.
Pigs

Pigs are one of the most profitable animals you can raise. You can purchase male or female pigs from the General Store for $300 each and they can be loaded into all vehicles including the animal trailer except for the ATV, SUV, and Sedan.

Pigs are very easy to keep. They don’t need any daily maintenance other than making sure food and water is available. Pigs eat bags of wheat from the General Store priced at $30 per bag.
Every time a pig eats, it will grow a little bit bigger. This will continue until the pig reaches full size approximately 6-8 game days later.

At full size, pigs will drop 26 pieces of pork when slaughtered. To kill them, you can either use your handgun or the stunner which is available at the General Store for $439.
Pork can then be sold or made into sausage or meat balls.

Breeding Pigs
To breed pigs, you must purchase a male and female pig from the general store. Female pigs can be distinguished by their slightly different color and nipples on the stomach.

Female pigs can become pregnant immediately following purchase from the general store or at 5 days old. Pigs will breed at 16:00.

Baby pigs are born at 11:00 in litters of 2-6. Immediately following birth they will typically follow the mother but soon break off. They will eat and drink the same as adult pigs so be sure there is enough food. These baby pigs will grow over the course of 5 days and at this time they will be old enough to mate themselves and you can determine their sex.

Baby pigs can also be dragged using the manage tool.
Cows
Cows received a massive update in December which added beef cows, beef bulls, and dairy bulls. All cows are available from the general store for the following prices:

Dairy Cow: $650
Dairy Bull: $800
Beef Cow: $800
Beef Bull: $1000

Dairy Cows come in three different colors (Bulls are available in the same colors):

Beef cows and bulls are only available in one color.
Beef cow:

Beef bull:

All cows can be loaded into either the small or large pickup trucks, the small truck (box truck), and the animal trailer.

Cows can be bred if you have at least one cow and one bull of the same type.

Both meat and dairy cows produce both meat and dairy. Dairy cows however produce more milk and meat cows produce more meat. You can slaughter either kind of cow using the handgun or the stunner available from the general store for $439. They can then be butchered into beef which can be sold or made into meatballs or sausages.

The beef cows do fatten over time. The longer you wait to butcher them, the more meat each cow will yield.

Like pigs and chickens, cows need to have food and water available at all times. Cows eat bags of wheat which you can buy from the General Store for $30 per bag or from the grain silo.

Cows can be milked twice a day using a bucket (either wood or steel available at the General Store for $8 each) or using a milking machine available from the general store for $750. Milk can be emptied out of buckets or harvested directly into milk cans which can be purchased from either the hardware store or general store for $135.

Cows milked using the bucket will produce 7.0 units of milk. Cows milked with the milking machine will produce 14.0 units of milk.

Cows “refill” at 8:00 and 16:00. You do not have to milk exactly at those times but that is when the cows become ready to milk again. For example you can milk the same cow at 15:59 and at 16:00.

To milk a cow using a bucket, pick up bucket and walk up to the cow. There should be a green outline of a bucket below the udders and you press E to install bucket on cow. Once the bucket is installed, the cow will stop moving so pick your spot wisely. Next, hold down E to begin milking. You press A and D when the keys light up to milk. 12 key presses fully milks the cow and then press E to leave the milking action. Then pick up the bucket to take your milk.

WARNING – I have gotten stuck on the walls of the barn many times while milking. You will always milk the cow on the same side where their tail is on the left side of you regardless of where you were standing when you started the milking action. You will stand up on this side and occasionally clip into the wall. To get out, pick up the bucket, wait for the cow to walk away a little bit, put the bucket back on and start milking again then leave the milking again. This should bring you out from the wall.

There is an excellent video example of this by MickBX. It wasn't his intention to show this maneuver in the first 30 seconds but it might be helpful so I will share it here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiYKGRYK_BA

To milk a cow using the milking machine, place the milking machine down where you would like to use it and place a milk can into the milking machine. There is a set of suction cups on the side of the machine that you can pick up like the stunner and gas station. Grab the suction cups and interact with the cow. This machine will now milk the cow and load the milk directly into the milk can.

Note: only cows can be milked. Bulls cannot be milked.

Milk can be sold as-is or can be used in the making of meatballs, sausage or cheese which I will cover later in this guide.
Breeding Cows
Both Dairy and Beef cows can be bred.

If you have at least one bull and one cow of the same type, they will mate at 16:00 each day.
Beef and Dairy cows cannot interbreed

Cows will be pregnant for 5 days before giving birth to a single calf at 8:00.

The calf will initially follow its mother for the first several hours then break off to be independent.

The calf will grow periodically and will be full grown at 5 days old. They will grow up at 16:00 on their 5th day.

My testing of beef cows has resulted in a larger number of female cows born than male. Currently I would estimate that your calf has a 1/3 chance to grow up to be male and a 2/3 chance of being female.
Goats
Goats were added in the July 2022 update. All goats are available from the general store for the following prices:

Goat (male): $350
Goat (female): $500

Goats come in two different colors and both males and females are available in the same colors:

All goats can be loaded into either the small or large pickup trucks, the small truck (box truck), the UTV, or the animal trailer.

Goats can be bred if you have at least one male and one female of the same type.

Goats can produce both meat and dairy. You can slaughter goats using the handgun or the stunner available from the general store for $439. They can then be butchered into goat meat which can be sold or made into meatballs or sausages.

The goats do not appear to fatten over time. Females will produce 4 pieces of meat and the males will produce 5 pieces of meat.

Like pigs, chickens, cows, and horses, Goats need to have food and water available at all times. Goats eat bags of wheat which you can buy from the General Store for $30 per bag or from the grain silo.

Goats can be milked using a small bucket ($5) or a Milking machine ($750).

Goats are milked in the same way as cows. Using the bucket, pick up the bucket and place in the green highlight under their udders using E. Then, hold E to begin milking. You will need to click A and D as they are highlighted on the screen. 14 button presses will completely milk the goat.

Using the milking machine, place a milk can into the highlighted slot on the machine using E, then grab the hoses on the side by clicking them, and place the hose onto the goats udders using E. Then, press E on the milking machine to turn it on. The machine will milk the goat automatically and shut off when it is done.

A single goat can produce 4.0 units of goat milk using a small bucket, and 5.0 units using the milking machine.

Goats “refill” at 8:00 and 16:00. You do not have to milk exactly at those times but that is when the goats become ready to milk again. For example you can milk the same cow at 15:59 and at 16:00.

Milk can be sold as-is or can be used in the making of meatballs, sausage or cheese which I will cover later in this guide.

Note: Once a bucket or milk can has goat milk or cow milk in it, that same container cannot be used to milk the other animal.
Breeding Goats
Goats can be bred.

If you have at least one male and one female goat, they will mate at 16:00 each day.

Goats will be pregnant for 3 days before giving birth to a single kid.

The kid will initially follow its mother for the first several hours then break off to be independent.

The kid will grow periodically and will be full grown at 5 days old. They will grow up at 16:00 on their 5th day.
Horses

Horses vary from the rest of the animals in the game in that you cannot purchase them at a flat price from the General Store. Horses are bought at the auction house. To get to the auction house, approach the Williams Livestock Auction sign at any "bus stop" location (there's one right at the entrance to your ranch) and press E. It costs $50 to take the bus to the auction house.

At the auction house, horses are randomized with various coat colors, mane colors, stats and price. The two ranchers on either side of you will also be bidding on these horses trying to out-bid you. Bids increase by $50 each time you bid. If you do not want to bid on a horse or you think the price became too expensive, you can press the skip button. You can skip as many horses as you like until you find one you want to bid on. Once you win the bid on a horse, you and the horse are transported to the sign in front of your ranch.

(NOTE: Horse stats shown at the auction house are the horse's fully trained stats. When you bring them home to the ranch, your horse will have three bars deducted from the total. If the stat is zero, the horse will have three bars when fully trained.)

You can also sell horses at the auction house which is the main source of income from horses.

Most of the profit from horses comes from training and selling them. All horses come with pre-set stats in 4 areas: Stamina, Speed, Handling, and Health. Stamina determines how long a horse can run at a full gallop, speed determines how fast they move in all 4 of their speeds, handling determines how tightly the horse turns, and health should affect their hit points (more testing is required on this though.)

Horses come with 6 training bars arranged in a circle at the bottom right of the screen. With each full training bar, all four of your horses' stats will improve by 1/2 bar. Once all 6 are filled, there will be three full bars added to each of your horses' stats.

The best way to train horses is with the training paddock which can be built from your building menu. It requires 100 planks and 4 metal. Once the paddock is built, you will have a small fenced corral and two gates to jump over. Running circles around this paddock and jumping over the gates successfully will begin to fill your horses' training bars. I have found that running around the corral at a full gallop until the horse begins to get tired then jumping the gates a few times while their stamina refills is the best way to train up your horses.
Buildings
After completing the tutorial, your building book can be accessed by pressing TAB. You can place anything from this book on your ranch but you cannot build outside of your ranch.

To build, select an object from the book and left click where you want to place the object. This places a blueprint on your ranch.

You will need planks, metal, glass or concrete to build your objects. The planks can be made using a table saw or purchased from the hardware store. Metal, glass and concrete are purchased from the hardware store. Place materials into the blueprint using E. Tip: planks can be carried in stacks of 8 so use that to save some time when building.

Coops
There are five coops available for building: Small, Medium, Big, Premium, and Expensive.

Small coops require 15 planks to build and can hold 5 chickens comfortably.

Medium coops require 20 planks and 7 metal. This can hold 8 chickens. The roofs on these coops lift up for access.

Big coops require 50 planks and 25 metal. This can hold 20 chickens. This coop has four drawers around the sides which can be used to access eggs.

Premium coops require 65 planks and 35 metal. This can hold 20 chickens. This coop has no drawers but is bigger and easier to access for cleaning and egg gathering than the big coop.

Expensive coops require 100 planks and 52 metal. This can hold 30 chickens.
Barn
Barns are built in combinations of three sections: front, middle, and back. You can build a barn with as many middle sections as desired as long as it fits on your ranch.

Barn front requires 19 planks, middle sections require 20 planks, and backs require 21 planks.

To enclose the barn you will also require side doors and main doors. Side doors require 12 planks and 1 metal, main doors require 16 planks and 3 metal.

You can also build barn cells into your middle sections. These can be used for isolating your animals. They require 20 planks and 10 metal to build.
Well

The well gives you access to unlimited water for your animal care and cooking needs. This can be built for 6 planks and 20 concrete and requires a bucket to be placed in it for it to work. Water is drawn out manually and so you will need to “crank” with your mouse to get the water out.
Granaries and Windmills
Granaries and windmills can be constructed on your ranch to automatically fill troughs, water bowls and feeders within a certain radius. Granaries can be built for 125 metal and 50 concrete. Windmills can be built for 150 metal.

Granaries have a capacity for 200 units of feed and will automatically refill feeders and troughs within its radius once they are empty. This can be refilled for 1$ per unit by holding R while looking at the granary. You can also manually fill all feeders by holding E.

Windmills will automatically fill all water bowls within this radius once they are empty and does not have to be refilled. You can also manually fill all water bowls by holding E while looking at the windmill.
Misc. Building Objects
Food and water troughs, lights, tables, fences, gates, preserving bins for meat and cheese, the horse training paddock, decorations, shelving, beds, etc. can also be built from your menu.

Note for fences and gates: These have 64 degrees of rotation, meaning that to turn a fence or gate 90 degrees, you rotate it 18 times, for 180 degrees, 36 times. Counting as you rotate will help you get clear angles if you need them.
Houses
Houses are used as a save and sleep spot but also for cooking and processing.

Each home comes with different amounts of cheese and drying racks so I will list the price of the house as well as the amount of cheese racks, drying racks, and beds in each one. Each house comes with only two spots on the stove.

Nema Lass posted a video tour of all of the available houses. Please note that this was filmed with a previous version of ranch sim so the purchasing information is no longer valid. If you would like a little more of an in-depth look than the pictures below, please check out this video.

Other Ranch Buildings
There are two other buildings on the ranch that come pre-built when you start your game. These both have a purpose during the tutorial sequence but no other designated use during gameplay. This may change in future updates.

These buildings are the garage and the warehouse.

The Garage:

The Warehouse:

The main use I have seen other players use these buildings for is raising animals like pigs and chickens before you have a barn or a coop. Food and water can be placed here for the animals and they will produce normally in this space so this makes a very good alternative to building those expensive buildings in your early game. Of course these could also be used as storage buildings.
Town Buildings
There are currently six locations around town to get goods and services.

All buildings except for the gas station and hardware store open at 8 and close at 21:00
General Store

The general store is where you can purchase your animals and tools for running your ranch. To purchase items, use the terminal in the front of the store to select items to add to your cart. Once your purchase is completed, these items will be dumped (literally dumped like they go all over the place) on the shopping cart pad on the side of the store. Animals will spawn in the semi-circle corral next to the shopping cart pad.

Since the corral is not closed, the animals will promptly attempt to escape into the woods and ruin your day. In light of that it is best to prepare if you are buying animals and have your vehicle completely empty before purchasing them. This will save you precious time as animals bigger than a chicken cannot be loaded into a vehicle that has any items in it. Also it may be a good idea to purchase your animals one at a time so that you can catch them. Having a friend to lend a hand helps too.

The general store can also purchase your items as well. If you have all of the items you would like to purchase loaded on your vehicle, simply drive over the shopping cart pad on the side of the building and then head inside and use the sell tab on the terminal to sell your goods. You can also sell objects by dropping them onto the pad. The General store will also buy containers and tools if they are empty and on the pad.

Gas Station

The gas station is the only place on the map where you can refill your vehicles, jerry cans (jerry cans can be purchased at the General Store for $25 and hold 40 liters) and table saws. Only the front right pump works but can be used on either side. Gas is $1 per liter. Every vehicle has a different fill capacity.
Car Shop

This is where you can purchase different vehicles. Vehicles can be sold and modified by driving them into the garage around the back of the shop. Vehicles can be sold for half of their original worth.

To purchase a vehicle, interact with the monitor in front of the sales person and select the vehicle you would like to purchase.

In the garage in the back of the shop, you can modify the color of your vehicle as well as install all the different options that are available for that vehicle (roof rack, flood lights, radio, etc.)
Insert pic of garage.
Burger Restaurant

Although you can’t buy any burgers here (bummer), this is an excellent place to sell your items. There is a loading zone on the back of the building and an area with a monitor showing the specials of the day.

There are three items every day that this shop will buy for additional money. It is best practice to sell all of your goods there regularly because even if it is not an item on special, it will sell for the same price as the general store. To sell, use the terminal around the corner from this monitor. Unfortunately there is no way to check these specials remotely so you will have to drive up to it and check.
Bank - Under Construction
Vehicles
All vehicles (with the exception of the one you put back together at the ranch) are purchasable from the Car Shop across from the burger restaurant. Each vehicle has a different capacity for fuel and loaded items as well as animals. Although I cannot quantify the loaded cargo space or the fuel tank space (let me know if anyone knows this though), the animal loading space is listed on the menu page for each vehicle at the car shop.

Keep in mind that chickens are not accounted for in the animal loading. Chickens work much like cargo and all of the vehicles are able to handle at least one chicken.

Cooking
All animal products can be sold as is but are more profitable when processed. There are currently 4 products that can be processed from your meat and dairy and those are meatballs, sausages, curd, and cheese.

Sausage and meatballs can be made from chicken, beef, or pork. No processed foods can be made with wild meat. This must be sold as is. The price will change according to the type of meat that was used.

Sausage and meatballs can be enhanced by the addition of an egg or some milk. One egg can be used per product and 2 liters of milk used per product. This will add to the price of the product more than the milk or egg would sell for on their own.

Milk can be used to make curd and cheese. An egg can also be added to curd or cheese to increase the price when sold.

Instructions for making these products below.

Nema Lass posted a great video walking through all of the cooking recipes so please check this out as well. She also made a video that outlines how to get the most money per liter of milk so take a look at that one to get an idea of how milk would modify your recipes.

Meatballs

To make this, you need a pot ($66 each), and a meat grinder (manual $99, electric $1435)

Place a piece of meat into the meat grinder and place the pot into the green highlighted spot next to the grinder.

Then grind the meat and it will appear in the pot. At this stage you can add egg, milk, or both into the pot.

To grab the meatball press E on the pot and the meatball will appear in your hand. This can either be sold raw or dry it by hanging it on one of the highlighted spots under the drying rack in your home or in a preserving bin for meat.

Sausage

To make this you need a pot ($66 each), a meat grinder (manual $99, electric $1435) and a sausage stuffer (manual $235, electric $999).

Place a piece of meat into the meat grinder and place the pot into the green highlighted spot next to the grinder

Then grind the meat and it will appear in the pot. At this stage you can add egg, milk, or both into the pot.

WARNING – if you press E on the pot, you will just get a meatball so be careful!

To get a sausage grab the WHOLE POT by clicking on it and press E on the sausage stuffer to insert the ground meat.

Then use the sausage stuffer to produce a roll of sausage. This can either be dried by hanging it on one of the highlighted spots under the drying rack or preserving bin for meat, or it can be boiled.

To boil the sausage you need to fill a pot with water from a bucket. If you do not have a house built, you can purchase a compact cooker from the hardware store for $125 to replace the stove. Place this water-filled pot onto one of the highlighted places on the stove. Then, add your sausage to the water and press E on the pot to begin cooking.

Curd and Cheese
There are five different kinds of curd/cheese: regular cow, regular goat, white mold (cow), blue mold (cow), and white mold (goat).

Regular (cow):

White Mold (cow):

Blue Mold (cow):

Left: Regular (goat) and Right: White Mold (goat):

The white mold (cow) can be purchased from the general store for $125, blue mold (cow) can be purchased for $230, and white mold (goat) can be purchased for $165. You will also need milk and a pot ($66 each). If you do not have a house built, you can purchase a compact cooker from the hardware store for $125.

Pour milk from a bucket or a milk can into a pot. For mold, take your selected packet of mold and add it to the pot. Each packet has 5 uses and each pot is one use. You can also add an egg to the pot to increase the price of the product. Keep in mind that using goat milk will use 4.0 units of milk and using cow milk will use 7.0 units of milk.

Place this pot on one of the green highlighted spaces on the stove. Press E to begin cooking.

Remove curd from pot. This can be sold as-is or dried into cheese by placing it on one of the drying racks in your home or in the preserving bin for cheese.

Gardening - Under Construction
Hunting

One of the best ways to earn money in the early days is by hunting. Ranch Simulator currently has three animals: Wolves, deer, and bears. During the tutorial, you will pick up the handgun and some ammo from the chest in the attic of the old farmhouse. To purchase additional ammo, visit the general store and pick them up for $40 a pack. Each pack contains 24 rounds.

Wolves

Wolves are the rarest animals to find on the map in my experience and I have personally primarily found them in the mountains behind your ranch. If a wolf spots you, it will chase after you making it very easy to get a shot. However, they can kill you and this will force you to load a previous save and lose your progress since you last used a save spot. They don’t outrun you as long as you aren’t running backwards. Wolves go down with one shot from the handgun and produce two pieces of wild meat.
Deer

Deer are the more abundant animals on the map and there are several hot spots where deer can commonly be found. Deer can also be chased down by wolves or bears so be sure to look out for those. Deer typically take somewhere between 1 and three shots to kill and produce three pieces of wild meat
Bears

Bears are found in the area south of the lake, north of the hardware store and west of the farm in that area. The map below shows where you can look. There are three bear spawns in that area.

Scratch everything i just said..... if your bee's are not respawning the game just needs a reset, i saved and quit and reloaded the game back up and bam was right near 2 hives in the woods were i logged out!

Also am pretty sure whoever says bee's respawn are trolling players multiple people in their guides said 2-3 days but its day 12 now in my game and found 15 beehives and collected before day 9 but here we are day 15 slept in bed to cycle 3 days and still nothing for respawns so yes am 100% sure beehives do not respawn and are only 15 in the world, it would make since considering a barrel of honey sells for 300$ so i mean if one went out ever 3 days collected 15 beehives and every day made 7.0 out of 7.5 fyi a rack of 100% honey only goes to 2% in the collecting machine, still thats alot of money for 300$ a pop

@grethor: They work now with pork, chicken/rooster and cow meat. Not with wild animals, not with goats.

@Fuzzy Vixen: Yes, now they are. You can build them via the building menu, choosing the fence section and go to the last page. It needs 20 metal and 20 concrete. Fill it with 50 l of gas and have barrels ready to 'harvest'.

@Mommai: It will be tricky to play entirely without guns. Your first way to make money will be hunting deer and bears, lots of them. Bears also spawn behind the hardware store and roam around, killing you if they find their way in. Even if YOU don't want to use guns, bears and wolves don't care. There are no melee weapons (yet). If you want to play it as intended, you either go the dairy route and produce cheese or - if you want to produce sausages - either buy the stun gun from the general store or starve your animals. Or find oil, make money and go the gardening route.

Thinking about purchasing but I do not like guns. Is it possible to play this without using a gun?

So I tried to put my goat meat into the meat grinder but found that I can't and yet I can with the pork meat so I know that it's not the machine
