Transport logs in one trip

TL:DR - Screenshots below.
  1. Load Truck using manual loading and logging-crane
  2. 3 logs = delivery-unit. Need to deliver "3x medium/long Logs"? --> Load 9 single logs?
  3. DONT(!) use "pack cargo" option.
  4. drive to destination carefully
  5. unload logs onto ground/intermediate storage until only three logs remain on trailer
  6. now use "pack cargo" --> three logs will form one delivery unit
  7. deliver
  8. load next 3 logs from intermediate storage
  9. repeat from point 5
Step by Step
  1. Go to logging camp. Be sure to bring a crane for manual loading!
For long logs i had to use a second truck for the crane, but for medium logs you can get it done with only a single truck. (Screenshot in the end)
Load the first delivery-unit on your trailer and use "unpack cargo" - you now should have the first three single logs proper loaded.

  2. Use the crane and manual loading to get more logs onto your truck.
Every 3 single logs will form a delivery-unit.
I needed to deliver 3x long logs, so i loaded 9 single logs onto the trailer.
DONT(!) use "pack cargo" option - just go with it the way it is.
You probably have to drive carefully and, dependant on the trerrain, might need to correct the loading with the crane on the go...but it actually works pretty well.
(besides some enormous health risks for the driver....)

  3. Unload everything but 3 logs into a "intermediate storage" using the crane again. With the remaining 3 logs now use "pack cargo" and deliver.
Then go to your storage again and load the next three logs - repeat.

  4. you've done it!
All the logs in one trip!
Works with long logs as well as with medium logs.
Then just a single truck is needed with this configuration:
Final thoughts
Maybe not the fastest method but satisfying not to have to drive the same delivery over and over again. Overall speed depends on route-length and individual skill with the crane.
+ somewhat exploiting a game-mechanic...

EDIT:
based on BE3dARt's comment i tried it and yes - i transportet all the requestet logs for the quest
"Aid to the island" [spintires.fandom.com] in one single go :)
Really easy pulling the sideboard semi-trailer through the mud and follow with an empty trailer+crane :)

tdsacct thank you for your advice and it works great

@Major.Dump you know what they say about people who assume. Holds true in this case as well.

I tested and this works between levels as well.

A little trick for those who like to deliver logs the "normal" way, but get tired of being stuck in the mud and snow and having your truck tip over 100 yards away from your destination...
I pull my Offroad logging trucks with a Tuz Tatarin. These awesome Scout vehicles are very tough, will float through almost any terrain, and the awesomeness of the Tuz transfers to the logging truck. Further benefit, the AI will keep your logging truck upright through dicey situations where you would absolutely tip over if driving the logging truck yourself.

I assume this does not exactly work when travelling between levels? Unless you offload your logs by the tunnel before travelling with packed logs only?

You can do it with only 2 trucks.

As mentioned below, one truck has a log crane and either low saddle or long log carrier, whichever it can fit. Instead of winching the long log dolly, hook it to the long log truck like normal, and use whichever truck is more capable to winch tow the log trailer.

This will allow you to use 2 trucks to deliver pretty much all log deliveries for a contract in a single trip.

In early game, a P16 is free and superb for long logs as well as high saddle mission trailers. Definitely the truck to winch the log trailer. The White Western Star has a very wide wheelbase, is extremely stable, and has full AWD and Diff lock, making it a capable saddle truck that is also available for free in early game.

A sideboard trailer is just enough to accommodate ~12 medium logs. A semi-trailer can hold just the amount of long logs. Once at the destination you can tip the trailers to get the logs on the ground and then load them which makes matters much easier.

i used this tactic but the logs always fell out because my truck was higher than the saddle, ill have to try the sideboard method with long logs
