Launching RTX mode from Steam
  • 1) Launch using the large green play button.

  • 2) Select the RTX support (DX12) option

You can also edit the launch options to force the game to run in RT mode every time

  • Right click AMID EVIL in the steam library
  • Select properties
  • Under "launch options" add -dx12

Using Ray Tracing in game
You can find the Ray Tracing options in the menu under OPTIONS > R.T.

You can also quickly toggle the RT menu by pressing F10.

Enabling Nvidia DLSS in the video options will give a large performance boost if you have a card that supports it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

REFLECTIONS

Selecting REFLECTIONS will enable realistic reflections. This means you will be able to see things in reflections that would be behind the camera view. eg. Looking into a puddle and seeing the roof in high detail. Or behind you in a reflective wall.

SCREEN %

SCREEN % is the percentage of the screen that reflections will be traced at. You will get a lower resolution reflection the lower the %. Around 80% is a good balance of quality / performance.

SHADOWS

Ray Traced shadows will enable shadow casting on enemies, and more accurate shadows from dynamic lights. Use with LIGHT BOOST for MAXIMUM SHADOWS.

MAX SHADOWS

This adjusts the maximum amount of ray casting lights projecting shadows. Around 12 is a good balance of quality / performance.

LIGHT BOOST

This will boost existing dynamic lights on decorations in the level (torches, spotlights etc)
This comes at a performance cost.

REFLECT BOOST

This will increase the threshold that reflections will be shown on materials. Ooh, shiny.
This comes at a performance cost.

Experiment!

Please experiment with all of these options to find the best performance and visual gain for your system!

When you're all done the game should look like THIS

Good luck, Champions!

I have to wait a bit for the game to respond again on my AMD 6600XT, but otherwise it holds at... 30-ish frames? What matters more is that it runs at a stable framerate, and I'm able to double the amount with AMD's FSR system.

My game just freezes when I try to turn on the ray traced reflections. I'm on the RX 6700XT.

Geforce 3060 10gb report: I get stable 180fps (reported by my monitor) in some maps with 12 shadows on. Reflections (49%, default setting) gives some artifacts at the opening of Sacred Path (Journeyman's Way) and causes framerates to dip to 144fps. With just shadows on, that's closer to 165fps and as high as 179fps.

Throughout the last levels of Arcane Expanse I got a stable 179fps reported (monitor maximum).

Correction it goes from 100-81 then 80-61 and everything below 60 is the same.

[on RX6700XT]
The "Screen %" option seems to work in ranges:
80-100
60-79
40-59
etc.
where every inbetween value has no influence on performance or visuals.

Shadows can really hammer performance on some levels especially when debris is lying around.
Or corpses.

Love you guys what an aventure to put RT in a game like this! Like the custom level made for it. I hope you guys do that for your next games or the extension or whatever! :)
