It's used to define the morph rules. For example if you have a flex controller "eyeRightAndLeft" that controls the morphs "eyeRight" and "eyeLeft", then you give it the rules "min( eyeRightAndLeft, 0 ) * -1" and "max( eyeRightAndLeft, 0 )" respectively.
