RIDE 4 in 4K Enhanced Ultra Quality at 60FPS with PS5 TAAU - Revised
By Ray Sover
Ever wanted to see RIDE 4 in better than Ultra quality at 4K but not sure you'll ever own the hardware to do it? With a little Unreal trickery, you can probably do it right now.

Ladies and gentlemen, please rev your pixels!
Do you have a reasonably powerful graphics card and a 4K monitor or TV and wish you could run RIDE 4 at 4K/60FPS with Epic quality graphics settings? Thanks to Unreal Engine's PS5 Temporal Antialiasing Upsampler (TAAU) technology, you can probably do it.

If you're running a 1440p monitor and a recent mid-range graphics card, this may still work well for you, so don't let the 4K speak put you off trying. Just set your in-game video resolution to 2560x1440 and follow the rest of the guide as-is. You won't know unless you try.

Enhancements

This .ini file mod offers the following...

- Runs in 4K PS5 TAAU mode at 60FPS+ on AMD RX Vega 56/Nvidia GTX1080 and upwards

- Performance scale adjustment allowing you to optimise quality vs your desired framerate

- Improves graphics processing to above Ultra quality rendering levels

- Optimises all texture and mesh LODs at all view distances for 4K

- Increases all view distances to eliminate visible fade-in/pop-in

- Optimises for best sharpness with minimal artifacts

Instructions

First, launch the game and go into the graphics menu. Set Video Resolution to 3840x2160. Now go into Advanced Settings and select the Ultra preset, then exit the game.

Now you'll need to open File Explorer and click on the View tab then tick the Hidden items checkbox. Navigate your way to 'C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Ride4\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor'.

NOTE: Substitute your Windows user name for 'YourUserName'.

Open Engine.ini by clicking on the file then right-click and select Edit, then copy/paste the following to the bottom of the file, not forgetting to include a blank line between the existing text and the new text...

[/script/engine.renderersettings]
r.SecondaryScreenPercentage.GameViewport=66.66
r.TemporalAA.Algorithm=1
r.TemporalAA.Upsampling=1
r.TemporalAACatmullRom=1
r.TemporalAASamples=8
r.TemporalAACurrentFrameWeight=0.12
r.AOHistoryStabilityPass=1
r.MaxAnisotropy=16
r.SkeletalMeshLODBias=-2
r.LandscapeLODBias=-1
r.MipMapLODBias=-1
r.LandscapeLODDistributionScale=2
r.LandscapeLOD0DistributionScale=2
r.StaticMeshLODDistanceScale=0.33
foliage.LODDistanceScale=2.4
r.ViewDistanceScale=1.8
r.Streaming.MipBias=0
r.Streaming.AmortizeCPUToGPUCopy=0
r.Streaming.MaxNumTexturesToStreamPerFrame=0
r.Streaming.Boost=1
r.Streaming.LimitPoolSizeToVRAM=0
r.Streaming.PoolSize=3000
r.Streaming.MaxEffectiveScreenSize=0
r.SSR.Quality=3
r.PostProcessAAQuality=5
r.MotionBlurQuality=1
r.LensFlareQuality=0

NOTE: I've reduced Motion Blur and disabled Lens Flare to improve overall clarity a little. If you'd prefer to keep them at default settings, ignore the last two lines.

Save the file then right-click on it, select Properties, tick Read-only and Apply. Job done.

Optimising Visual Performance vs Framerate

The first parameter setting (r.SecondaryScreenPercentage.GameViewport) relates to the internal render resolution. Setting a lower value decreases image quality while increasing framerate, and vice versa. It's currently optimised for 60FPS+ on a Sapphire PULSE RX Vega 56.

NOTE: Don't forget that you'll need to temporarily revoke Read-only status on the file to make any changes to it.

The more eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed a setting you likely haven't seen before, r.LandscapeLODDistributionScale=2. Conventional Unreal sharpening methods have little to no effect when using TAAU, but this setting improves fine detail enormously.

RIDE 4 already runs some fairly high rendering settings with its Ultra preset, so the rise to enhanced Ultra quality won't make a huge difference in many respects. I'd be surprised if you didn't notice the difference though, so it's definitely worth a look, especially at 4K resolution.

Now launch RIDE 4 and enjoy. :-)

Updates

This mod may be updated if further ways are found to improve the game graphically without sacrificing performance, so please check back periodically if using this mod.

TAA(U) gives a mostly ghosting effect in most games. How does it affect this one?

That's going to happen if you're running the game internally at less than 4K which is what this mod is designed to do in order to improve framerates. It's already optimised to make textures as crisp as possible within the limits of the internal resolution it's running.

The alternative for detailed textures is to not use the mod and just run the game at a lower resolution with the Ultra preset. That will drop many graphics cards down to 1080p if 60FPS+ is a requirement which will look significantly worse anyway on a 4K monitor.

It's all about compromises unless you have the hardware to run the game at native 4K in Ultra. If you do have the horsepower then there's very little to be gained from running this mod.
