The Exotic Archive is a new vendor that was initially added to the game as part of the Beyond Light expansion. Located in the Tower between the two Vault terminals the Exotic Archive allows you to purchase a selection of items that can no longer be acquired through their original questlines for a variety of in-game currencies.

This guide is accurate as of the release of The Edge of Fate.

Each item you wish to purchase from the Exotic Archive will cost you one or more of the following currencies and materials.

Glimmer is the most basic currency in the Destiny universe. You can earn it by killing enemies, completing objectives or dismantling items. Glimmer is primarily used for purchasing bounties and upgrading gear but will also be used in various other purchases.

This is one of the rarest and most most expensive materials in the game. A handful can be earned each season through seasonal progression. Others will have to purchased from Rahool in the Tower or earned through higher level activities.. All legendary armours require one Ascendent Shard to masterwork, all Exotic armours require three.

This is a new currency that was introduced ahead of the Exotic Archive in Season of Arrivals. One is available through a triumph to all players, one is available through the season pass each season and one per week can be earned by completing a quest for Xûr. You can hold up to five of these in your inventory at a time.

Anybody who purchases the forsaken Pack will also receive three Forsaken Ciphers (available for collection from the Exotic Archive) which can be used in place of an exotic cipher to purchase a Forsaken weapon. If you own all of these weapons you can instead convert them into Ascendent Shards.

These are a new currency that was added to the game alongside the Exotic Archive. These are earned by completing raid encounters and can also be used to purchase additional gear from raid vendors.

If you visit Rahool in the Tower you can make use of his material exchange services where you can trade various resources you already have for others that you may need.
