Getting it to work, Step 1
(Edit:Thanks for N1ghtmare for also bringing this up because I forgot to mention it here I believe, go to your steam folder and find the "Steam.dll" file in it, copy it, and put it in the main folder for Jade Empire , try this first then everything else later, usually this works for other games)

Step 1: Download the 4gb patchhttps://ntcore.com/ (this program is used by various modders from other ((old)) games to make the .exe file to use more then 2 gigs of RAM or video memory) once installed and you selected the 4gb.exe you have to find the games .exe's the .exe's (are in C:/Program files86x/Steam/Steamapps/JadeEmpire) or where ever you have your Jade Empire main file at where it contains the .exe's, and select them to update.

Second: Set all the .exe's (in C:/Program files86x/Steam/Steamapps/JadeEmpire) or where ever you have your Jade Empire main file at where it contains the .exe's by right clicking on them, going to properties then going to the compatibility tab in it:

then selecting the box that has "run this program in Comp. mode" on, then going to the dropdown bar, select "Windows Vista Service Pack 2"

then after that go down and select "disable fullscreen optimisations" on

then if "run on admin *isn't on* select it *to be on*

then after that select "change high dpi settings" box

then after that

check off *both* of the boxes in the new window there then press ok

then after your done with both of the boxes, close the window that you were just on, in the first
window in the .exe's properties click apply on the bottom of it.

Getting it to work Step 2
Go to the main file, in there, there should be a file called data, in that data folder, created a "SystemInformation.xml" file (do this by right clicking, selecting new, then selecting text document)
((if you can't do this in the data file, try it on the desktop then dragging it in it))

no need to put anything in the text file, you just need the phyiscal file and the title which you named it up above

now go to JadeEmpire.ini and (change the following, changes will be indicated with a * ) ((Reasons: ClampFPS to 59 for a solid 59 frames because old games that are played on "newer" machines can't run a solid 60 frames per second, widescreen is broken and will crash your game (((which is 0 to turn it off))), ScrW is ScreenWidth which is 1920, ScrH is ScreenHeight which is 1080 for modern computers, Windowed mode is the only mode which can run the game (((which is 1 to turn on))), RefreshRate to 59 because of first reason stated above.))

now go to your *Steam* master file where it contains your steam.exe (C:/Programfiles86x/Steam) or wherever you have it, find the Steam.dll file in it, then copy and paste that file into the JadeEmpires file which has the .exe's in it, to fix the "Steam cannot to be found" bug (if encountered)
Getting it to work, Step 3 finale.
Use the TestApp.exe to launch the game, launcher will appear, select play or start or whatever it says
there done, it works

(bonus: go to the jade empire folder, right click on the TestApp.exe, then hover over the "send to" option, then find and select "to desktop", for now on launch the game through the shortcut you just created)
Just Get Jade Empire On GOG because it works when you buy it there, it'd be a lot more faster, Lmao
(Proof that the game does indeed have .exe's)

@Yellowmann it should be in the game's .exe folder, if it's not there you either might have to reverify the files by going in it's properties on steam or simply deleting the jade empire file and reinstall again.

I actually can't find the JadeEmpire.ini file. Where is it supposed to be?

Thanks for the guide, I got excited.
Remember this game came out on the original Xbox. It's going on 20 years old now, and with all the different Windows updates since then. It's amazing it still works at all.
It did completely glitch out about 10 hours into the game. I cleared my PC cache and reinstalled it, and that worked. Just clearing the cache, would have probably worked by itself but I ended up doing a complete reinstall. 5G speed is insane by the way

When you finally get this game to work it's like. "I'm am a FACKING WIZARD!!!" Moving the Steam.dll over is all I had to do, and start it up using the in the JadeEmpire.exe file itself

@Gizmo Brooch Well this game has been out for a very, long time. and it (probably) did work once upon a time flawlessly on old systems. it's just that sometimes a game doesn't age so well for modern systems.....but besides that point, i kinda agree, steam itself should either have atleast warning label that says "Maybe unstable for modern systems or etc here" if they really want to still place a pricetag on'em here or release those games as open source and be free, so other people are/can be able to fix them. (especially if said, same studio is or has been gone for a long while)

It is always so pathetic a company will release a game on a platform and not make it work, and expect paying customers to do the work for their pathetic monkey brained lazy asses.

well not monkey brained, cuz its smart having paying customers to do your work to fix their game

@MadCarbon and for yourself if your computer or said drive (if it's an external hard drive) stops working
Tzard Nickolas "The Lit" Romanov  [author] 23 Mar, 2021 @ 4:24pm
@MadCarbon That's Weird, but You should probably post it in a guide, so if others have that same problem as you did, they know how to fix it (because that sounds rare topic or probelm)
