TS Lakewood

Description
TS Lakewood - Passenger Excursion Steamship

WARNING
-This ship is very laggy. If you don’t have a good computer, I don’t recommend using this creation.
Reducing the physics detail setting should reduce the horrendous amount of lag.

-Also, this boat is a bit top-heavy. As long as you're moving, you should be fine (the fin stabilizers keep the ship safe in most reasonable conditions).

This is the TS Lakewood, a passenger turbine steamer. She is heavily inspired by the turbine steamers that used to sail the River Clyde (in Scotland) in the first half of the 20th century. This ship is very laggy and kind of top-heavy, but she’s quite fast and looks awesome! I originally started this project over 6 months ago, but I had to take a break due to school, so it only actually took me about 1-2 months to complete.

History (Fictional)
The TS Lakewood was built in 1930 in response to growing competition from rival turbine steamers. She was powered by one double-ended boiler powering two steam turbines, with each one driving a single screw. With a top speed of about 30 kts, she was much faster than her competition. Despite this, the Lakewood's typical operating speed was about 15-20 kts on normal trips (she was built for river excursions, so speed wasn't really a big concern). She quickly became very popular with her passengers, with her simple yet comfortable furnishings and amenities. The TS Lakewood ferried passengers around the Sawyer Islands until 1940, when she was used as a troop ship during World War II (WWII). In 1948, she was returned to civilian service and continued to serve her usual routes well into the 1960s. By this point, she was beginning to show her age and was becoming increasingly expensive to maintain and operate. Around 1968, the Lakewood ran aground near Holt Town. Although the grounding was relatively gentle and the ship only suffered minor damage, her owners decided to use this as an excuse to get rid of her (they had fallen on hard times and were attempting to cut costs wherever possible), so she was soon towed away and laid up. The TS Lakewood never returned to service and was scrapped the following year.

Instructions
The Lakewood is very easy to use. Just head down to the boiler/engine room (it should be very easy to find) and press one of the “Light Boiler” buttons, which can be found on either side of the boiler. Then, you can either control the ship from the wheelhouse or the engine room. I’ll leave that part up to you. Enjoy!

In addition, this ship has 2 different sink modes. To use them, just head up to the wheelhouse and find the grey panel on the back wall. There, you will find two different switches. The first one sinks the ship normally, while the second one blows up the boiler. If your computer isn't very good, you probably shouldn't use the latter option, as the fire causes a ton of lag when it spreads.

-I want to thank SilverwolfGaming for helping me solve some of the stability issues that plagued my ship for the longest time. He helped me with the active stabilizer, which was a huge help, since I have no idea how to use PIDs properly. He’s way smarter than I am, and I recommend checking some of his stuff out.

-Other than that, I don’t think that I used anyone else’s stuff. If I’m wrong, please tell me so I can credit you!

@leeannamaciver0404 My primary source of inspiration for this ship was the TS Duchess of Montrose (a very similar-looking vessel), but I did indeed use the TS Queen Mary as a source since it's much easier to find reference material for a ship that still exists.

is this based on the TS queen mary in glasgow? the old clyde river steamer

@sonarman Thanks! And yes, you are correct, that was my main inspiration for this ship.

nice one, very much based on the Clyde steamers Duchess of Hamilton & Duchess of Montrose

Found a 3rd sinking option. Leave the firedoors open. Water comes out and it starts to slowly sink

One of my faves :)

@Metaknight No, because this ship was always intended to be powered by steam turbines. However, given the complexity of steam propulsion and how laggy/poorly optimized this ship already is, I don't really feel like adding any of the new steam components.

That being said, I do plan to build ships that use the new steam engines in the future, it's just a matter of finding time and motivation for them.

Do you plan to include the new steam pistons
