Introduction
In this guide, the achievements are listed in the order in which you are meant to travel through the games. So basically, in order of appearance ;). Most, but not all, of the achievements are connected to the main quests of the games and you will unlock them naturally while playing.

If you are having trouble finding your way, figuring out a solution to some puzzle or an answer to some question, you can take a look at my complimentary map guides. You will find them here:

Throughout the guide, I'm using map coordinates (e.g. N12 E24) to specify location of certain places.
General Achievements
Roleplaying
Create your first character.
You can do that at the start of the game and anytime later in the Adventurers guild.

Dean's List
Be promoted at the review board for the first time.
When a character gains enough experience to level up, you will see an arrow next to that character's name. To actually be promoted to the next level, you will need to go to the Review Board (Skara Brae map, N20 E23) and chose Advancement option.

Apprentice
Level a character to level 10.
Pops up after you promote one of your characters to level 10 at the Review Board.

Journeyman
Level a character to level 25.
Pops up after you promote one of your characters to level 25 at the Review Board.

Master
Level a character to level 50.
Pops up after you promote one of your characters to level 50 at the Review Board. If you are playing all the parts of the game, use Full Power Transfer option between the parts and don't tend to run away from fights as you explore, you will hit level 50 on your starting characters naturally, no grinding or power-levelling necessary.
However, if you are in a hurry or just really, really want that level, you can specifically set out to level one of your characters to 50. The easiest way to do this is to fill your party with summons, as they do not get a share of xp. So, take only one mage and fill your party with the strongest summons you have. Afterwards, you can go to the Adventurer's Guild and exchange your mage for any character you want levelled. With such a party you can go to any dungeon you wish and just keep fighting till you have enough xp for your desired level. Some dungeons will be better for this purpose (like Dargoth's Tower for example) but any will do.

Gold Digger
Amass 100,000 gold coins.
The game is quite generous with gold so gathering 100,000 is no problem what so ever. Even if you buy everything you need, spend money on healing and learning spells - you will hit 100,000 half way through the first game with no additional effort. Assuming of course that you don't run from fights.

The Mage's Tale
Learn all 7 levels of spells for Conjurer, Magician, Sorcerer and Wizard with one character.
Each magical class in The Bard's Tale has seven levels of spells to learn. You can learn new level of spells every second class level (so at levels: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13) at the Review Board. At the start of the game, you can only chose a Conjurer or Magician class - Sorcerer and Wizard will become available later as you level up your starting mages.
To learn all spell levels of all the classes, you will need to level up your mage to level 13 of his chosen class, learn (buy) all the spells at the Review Board and then go to the Review Board and change your class to the next mage class. Level the new class to level 13, buy all the spells and change the class again. And so on in that fashion until your mage goes through all the classes.
Your mages remember all the spells they learned earlier, even when they change their class.

The Archmage’s Tale
Master all magic levels of the Archmage class.
In Bard's Tale 2 and Bard's Tale 3, you can go to any review Board and chose to change the class of one of your mages to Archmage. The mage has to have at least 3 levels of spells in four mage classes (Conjurer, Magician, Sorcerer, Wizard) to qualify for becoming an Archmage.

I'm 'armless!
Disarm 50 traps.
Both traps disarmed by a Rogue and those zapped with Trap Zap spell by a Conjurer count. Both traps on the chests and those on the floor count. Practically all the chests you find in any dungeon after a battle (the earliest ones will be the Cellar and the Sewers in BT1) will be trapped so you will get this one in no time.

Nemesis
Win 500 battles.
500 battles in the world of The Bard's Tale is really not that many. You will get that one easily while still in the BT1, just by exploring the dungeons. Assuming of course that you won't be running away from battles much.
Bard's Tale I: Tales of the Unknown
A Good Year
Find the wine cellar.
In Skara Brae, go to The Scarlet Bard inn (N5 E28) and order Wine. Barkeep will tell you to go to the Cellar and get it yourself. Achievement pops right there.

Something's Smelly
Enter the sewers.
In Skara Brae, go to the Scarlet Bard tavern and order Wine. Barkeep will tell you to go to the Cellar and get it yourself. In the Cellar there are stairs down (N18 E7) that lead to the Sewers. Achievement pops as soon as you go down the stairs.

A Song of Only Fire
Use a fire horn.
The Fire Horn is an instrument that can be used by a Bard to attack enemies. It drops from battles in the Sewers (only on Level 3), in the Catacombs, and in Baron Harkyn's Castle. After you get one, just equip it on your Bard and use it in any battle.

The Magic Word
Enter the catacombs.
Enter the Temple of the Mad God in Skara Brae (N14 E18 - N17 E18). The priests there will ask you to speak the name of the Mad God. Respond with 'Tarjan' and they will consider you a believer and let you into the Catacombs.

Storm the Gates
Enter Harkyn's Castle.
Harkyn's Castle is located in the northwest corner of Skara Brae (N24 E4). To go inside, you will have to defeat at least two guardian statues: a Golem and a Grey Dragon. It is best to go there after you finish exploring the Sewers and the Catacombs.

Crystal Clear
Defeat the Crystal Golem.
You will find the Crystal Golem in Kylearan's Amber Tower (N1 E4). To get to the Tower, you will need to go through Harkyn's Castle. On the Level 3 of the Castle you will find a teleport (N1 E21) that will take you to the tower.
To actually defeat the Crystal Golem you will need a special sword - Crystal Sword. "Killing" the Golem with any other weapon will just cause him to reform and attack you again. You can find a Crystal Sword on Level 1 of the Harkyn's Castle (N0 E19). The entrance to the room with a sword is protected by Jabberwock (N2 E21).
Once in the Tower with a sword in hand, you will need to open a way to the Crystal Golem. First, go to the Magic Mouth (N10 E13) and answer it's riddle with 'Stone Golem'. It will teleport you. Make your way south through the darkness to another Magic Mouth (N2 E12) and answer it's riddle with 'Sinister'. This will open the doors (N5 E1) that would otherwise be closed. You will find the Crystal Golem at N1 E4.
Remember to equip the Crystal Sword on some character and attack the Golem only with that character.

Endgame
Enter Mangar's Tower.
Mangar's Tower is located in the southeast corner of Skara Brae (N2 E2). You can get there though the Sewers. On Level 3 of the Sewers you will find some stairs (N16 E17) that will take you near the Mangar's Tower.
To actually get inside the Mangar's Tower you will need the Onyx Key. That key you can get from Kylearan himself. You will find him in his Kylearan's Amber Tower (N13 E17).
Refer to the "Crystal Clear" achievement section for some notes on getting to the Kylearan's Amber Tower and navigating it. After you defeat the Crystal Golem, you'll have a clear - if somewhat snake-like - path to Kylearan.

Weapon of Legend
Acquire the Spectre Snare
Spectre Snare is a weapon you can find on the level 5 of the Mangar's Tower (N21 E10). Magic Mouth will ask you a question, answer with 'Spectre Snare' and both the weapon and the achievement are yours.

Heroes of Skara Brae
Complete Tales of the Unknown by defeating Mangar and rescuing Skara Brae.
Granted for completing the Bard's Tale I. You need to get to and defeat Mangar on the level 5 of the Mangar's Tower (N20 E10).
The passage to Mangar will open if you have the Silver Triangle, Silver Square and Silver Circle with you.
  • Silver Square you can get at Level 2 of the Harkyn's Castle (N0 E0).
  • Silver Triangle you can get in the Kylearan's Tower (N20 E2).
  • Silver Circle you can get at Level 2 of the Mangar's Tower (N15 E4).

Retirement Planning for Heroes
Make your first deposit at the bank.
You will find the Bank in Skara Brae at N25 E14. Just go inside and deposit any amount of gold you want.

Hit Me!
Win a hand of blackjack at the casino.
You will find the Casino in Skara Brae at N6 E13. Just go inside, play some blackjack and win (get closest to 21 without going over it).

Skara Brae Shopaholic
Purchase services at an inn, a temple, Garth's and Roscoe's.
  • There are several inns in Skara Brae - go into any and order some alcohol.
  • There are many temples as well - go into any and get healed. You will need to get hurt first - temples don't heal healthy people ;).
  • At Garth's Shoppe (N18 E26) you can buy some basic equipment or identify unidentified loot.
  • At Roscoe's Energy Emporium (N21 E12) you can restore your spell points and identify magical properties of items.
Do all four things and the achievement is yours. You can consult a map at the end of this section if you're having trouble finding some place.

Livin’ La Vida Bard’s Tale
Purchase services at Garth’s, Roscoe’s, an inn, and a temple, advance a character at the Review Board, make a deposit at the bank, and play a round at the casino.

Bard's Tale II: The Destiny Knight
Knight in Shining Armor
Conquer the Dark Domain.
Dark Domain is the first dungeon you find in the Bard's Tale 2. Entrance to it is located in a house in Tangramayne (N8 E15). Inside, you will find a Magician, who will give you a quest to rescue the kidnapped Princess. You will need to go all the way to the end of level 4 of the Dark Domain. There you will find a princess, whom you need to take back up to the Magician. Achievement pops there.

Most of the road is quite straightforward, but there are few points worth mentioning.
  • On level 2 (N5 E12), you will need to allow the Winged Creature to join your party. You will need it to carry your party through the chasm on level 4. So, you'll need an empty slot in your party for the creature. If you prefer to first explore the whole dungeon with your full party and come back for the creature later, you can do that. Just keep in mind that transportation spells sadly don't work on levels 3 and 4.
  • On level 3, to open a passage to level 4, you will first need to give a proper answer to the Magic Mouth at N3 E14. The answer is 'Mangar'.
  • On level 3, to actually be able to go down the stairs to level 4, you will need to give a proper password to the Magic Mouth. The password is 'Pass'.
  • On level 4, to get through the chasm at N10 E9, you'll need the aforementioned Winged Creature. If you have it in your party, it will carry you over. Levitation will not work here.
  • On level 4, to get through the double door (N19 E9), you will need to have your Bard sing a light-giving ballad. Seeker's Ballad works well here and so does Watchwood Melody.

Citizens of Caith
Visit each city.
There are six cities to visit. You can access each city from the Forest map and it's enough to just go in through the gate.
  • Ephesus (N40 E15)
  • Colosse (N32 E23)
  • Tangramayne (N23 E4)
  • Philippi (N15 E15)
  • Thessalonica (N7 E24)
  • Corinth (N6 E4)
After you visit all cities, you will need to enter a dungeon. Any dungeon will do. For some unknown and quite puzzling reason, this achievement only unlocks when you enter a dungeon.

Wisdom of a Kind
Gain 30 unique pieces of insight from the Sage.
You will find the Sage in the Sage's Hut in the Forest (N0 E0). You can ask him about any piece of magical equipment, as well as about some quests. Here's a list of the equipment you can ask about (asking each equioment question costs 500 gold, and quest-related questions cost thousands, so you will need at least 15,000 gold to finish the achievement):
  • Ag's Arrows
  • Ali's Carpet
  • Angra's Eye
  • Aram's Knife
  • Bardsword
  • Breathring
  • Brothers Figurine

  • Thor's Hammer
  • Trick Brick

  • Vanquisher Figurine
  • Wizhelm
  • Zen Arrows

The Battle is Joined
Gain your first piece of the Destiny Wand.
You have to collect exactly the Wand Segment 1 for this to pop (not just any first wand piece you find). This segment can be found on level 3 of The Tombs dungeon (located in Ephesus, Temple of Darkness, N7 E8). The only complicated part of this dungeon is the end of the level 3 itself. Before you step into the teleporter at N4 E12, be sure to have an empty spot in your party. After you teleport (to N10 E3) you will need to perform several actions:
  1. Go to N9 E12 and have all the members of your party drink the poison.
  2. With everyone poisoned, go to N7 E10 and fight the Toxic Giant you find there. When you defeat him, he will drop a 'Torch!' for you.
  3. Go to N11 E10 and allow the Old Warrior to join your party. Equip him with a torch. Make sure he is in the first position in your party.
  4. Go back to N9 E12 and make the Warrior drink the poison as well. Note: You could have started by picking up the Warrior to your party but this order of actions allows us to protect the low-health warrior from dying in battle/from poison.
  5. Go to N10 E3. You will get a new message and the door will open.
  6. Go to N10 E9 and go through the new door to pick up the wand segment.
  7. Celebrate. ;)

A Fallen Hero
Enter the home of Saradon.
Saradon's Workshop is located in Philippi (N15 E13). To open the gate leading to it, you will need a WardStone. This WardStone can be found on Saradon's body in the Forest hut (N45 E29).

Storm the Gates (Again)!
Enter Fanskar’s Fortress.
Fanskar's Fortress is located The Forest (N27 E17). To open the door, you will need the Master Key. That key you can buy for 50,000 gold from the Old Man in the Tombs, level 2 (N10, E8).
Entrance to The Tombs is located in Ephesus, Temple of Darkness (N7 E8).

Turning Point
Acquire over half of the Destiny Wand pieces.
To unlock this achievement, you need to collect four specific pieces of the wand, not just any four pieces. You have to collect exactly Wand Segment 1 (The Tombs, Level 3), Wand Segment 2 (Fanskar Castle), Wand Segment 3 (Dargoth's Tower, Level 5), Wand Segment 4 (Maze of Dread, Level 3).

Enter Sandman
Cast the Dreamspell for the first time.
Only an Archmage can learn the Dreamspell, so you will need one in your party. To learn the Dreamspell, you'll first need to go to five dungeons and learn five words form the Magic Mouths. Clues to the location and proper order of the words can be found in the notes in Saradon's Workshop. Here is the list of words and their locations:
  1. Grey Crypt, level 2 (N11 E4): SHIELD.
  2. Maze of Dread, level 2 (N9 E10): MALLET
  3. Fanskar's Castle (N20 E21): HEAL
  4. Oscon's Fortress, level 2 (N16 E19): STRIKE
  5. Dargoth's Tower, level 3 (N8 E13): DISRUPT
Afterwards, go to the Destiny Stone, Level 1 (N9 E18). Magic Mouth there will ask you about the word you have learned. Enter them in order, one at the time: Shield, Mallet, Heal, Strike, Disrupt. After you learn the spell, just cast it anytime you want.

The Destiny Knight
Forge the Destiny Wand.
To reforge the Wand, you will first need to gather all 7 segments: Wand Segment 1 (The Tombs, Level 3), Wand Segment 2 (Fanskar Castle), Wand Segment 3 (Dargoth's Tower, Level 5), Wand Segment 4 (Maze of Dread, Level 3), Wand Segment 5 (Oscon's Fortress, Level 4), Wand Segment 6 (Grey Crypt, Level 2), Wand Segment 7 (Destiny Stone, Level 3).
You will also need an Archmage in your party. With the segments and an Archmage head to the Temple of Narn (Forest, N2 E9).

Liberators of Caith
Complete The Destiny Knight by defeating Lagoth Zanta and his invading force.
After you reforge the Destiny Wand and one of your Archmages becomes a Destiny Knight, you need to head to the hut of the Sage (Forest, N0 E0). The Sage will reveal his true identity and attack you. Defeat him and his monsters

So, go to the temple of the Mad God (Skara Brae, N15 E18) and answer 'Tarjan' to gain access to the Catacombs. Once there, go to N0 E8 to find the stairs back up too Skara Brae.
Enter the house of Longinus and search it until there is nothing more to find. You will find scraps of parchments with prophecies and unlock the achievement.

A Matter of Time

Create a Geomancer.
Urmech in the Sanctum in Kinestiria can teach one of your warrior characters (warrior, paladin, monk, bard, rogue) to become a Geomancer. When you meet Urmech, chose to accommodate him rather then fight him. Afterwards, meet him again deeper in the Sanctum and he will change your chosen character to a Geomancer. Thief of Fate
Strike the killing blow against Tarjan with a rogue.
During the fight with Tarjan at the end of the game, have your rogue Hide in Shadows for several turns in a row, until he/she is able to attack targets 90' away. Then just attack Tarjan, he will go down easily.

All The Stars In The Sky
Complete Thief of Fate by defeating the Mad God and ascending to godhood in the heavens above.
The description of this achievement suggests that it unlocks at the very end of the game. However, in reality it unlocks the second you kill Tarjan. So you don't even need to ascend to godhood :)

I found that proceeding methodically through Malefia and making a map in my head, so to say, was the best for me. I examined as much as I could of one floor without going through any portal, then started going through "all portals on the west side". And so on in that fashion. I imagined vast halls filled with crazy portals and it sort of just clicked for me.

It's funny how when I made my own map on paper, Malefia just kind of slowly revealed itself to me and made sense while in an automap it just feels stupid and annoying. Those unintended consequences.

Deleting criticism. Thanks for the great guide. Rreaders trying to get throgh malefia may find {LINK REMOVED} handy.
