Goonz Witcher 3 Modding Guide
By Goonz
This is my 2024 Mod List, Its a mod list for game version 1.32, and a mod list balanced around the Ghost Mode mod, I have provided simple and easy to follow instructions and I have handled all the hard stuff people find complicated, like the merges, xml edits and mod priority settings, so even a beginner would have no issues as long as you pay attention and know how to read.

Introduction
This is the mod list I play with, it is for The Witcher 3 (Patch 1.32) classic version, so you will have to roll your game back to the classic version to use it, its a mod list balanced around the mod Ghost Mode, I don't use any mods that break the balance of the Ghost Mode game play and I do not overwrite any files from Ghost Mode unless they are with Ghost Mode patched versions, My mod list required some manual merging and because of that you are not going to be able to skip any mods that contain scripts that are included in the merges or add any scripted mods not listed unless you are capable of merging on your own. At the end I provided 2 different script merges, one is for everything and then I provided one that included everything except the mods in the Camera and Animation section, so if you want to use everything and you are a third person only player, then you still will have to install the Gervant First Person mod to use my merge and then in game you can just leave it off and play in third person with the Immersive Camera mod and it will be like Gervant First Person mod is not even there, or you can set Gervant First Person mod up on the mod menu to activate third person for certain conditions, like combat or horse riding, so you can explore in first person, but when combat is trigger you will automatically go into third person and be using whatever Immersive Camera settings you use and there is a key bind to toggle between third and first as well.

If you have questions or issues while installing my mod list, you can post those under the Help with modding - witcher-3 thread, I don't hang out on Discord all day waiting for questions, but I do check in a few times a day and I am on there in Voice Chat sometimes when I play call of duty, so I will answer as soon as I see it and feel free to stick around if you want, I mod any game that I play that has mods to use and you can find some of my other mod lists I play with for other games there that I do not wish to make guides for, but instead offered as ready to go easy install mod packs.
Clean Install
When modding any game you need to start with a clean copy of the game that has never been modded before. The game will run better from an ssd, If steam is installed in your programs files directory and you only have one ssd, then I recommend you move your steam install, instructions are here Moving a Steam Installation

For The Witcher 3 I don't have any evidence that the mods will not work while in Program Files, I have never tried it because my Steam install was moved a long time ago because it causes lots of problems with mods for the Bethesda games like Skyrim, Oblivion, the Fallout games and it's Modding 101, you don't mod games that are in the Program Files Directory, it can cause problems with mod tools and some types of mods.

If you have the next-gen witcher 3 installed or have tried to mod either version, uninstall the game and when it is done delete the left over game folder, then go here C:\Users\*Your Name*\Documents and delete The Witcher 3 folder.

On your Steam game library page, over to the left where all your games are listed right click The Witcher 3 and select properties, then click on the Betas tab and click the top drop down menu and select classic The Witcher 3 (Patch 1.32) and then Install.
Performance
I play with this mod list on a Nvidia RTX 2070 Super and an Intel i7-9700f with 16gb ram on a 1080p monitor and I cap my frames at 75, on an uncapped frame rate I am sure some of this stuff will be costly to run, to run all the graphic stuff I use you will need somewhat of a modern PC. I have no idea how it will perform on a 1440p or 4k monitor, you would certainly need a much better PC then I have to do it, 1440p resolution doubles the pixels of 1080p, it's like 78% more, it doubles your gpu usage and it takes away half of the frames you would produce in 1080p before you even add any mods to it

To get the best performance that your PC can provide, turn off all overlays and kill all background processes not essential to running the game, and install and run the game from an ssd and run it in Fullscreen, fine tune the games graphic settings for your setup. You do not need external frame counters, reshade has a frame counter and a screenshot capture.

Some of the stuff listed in my Textures, Effects and NPC sections could cause you performance issues, it depends on what kind of computer you have and what resolution you play in. Since they are texture and meshes without scripts then you can skip them or uninstall them later and still be able to use my merges at the end. I will list some of the mods I believe are the most performance costing, and for Blitz FX, it is included in all merges and can not be skipped, but if it causes you to have performance issues then you can just press the F7 key in game to turn it off.

The Mod Limit
The games mod limit is based off of mods that have blob0.bundle's, the game can only load so many, so not all mods count against the limit. The current version of my mod list is very close to this limit, I was 2 under the limit and then I removed 5 blob0.bundle mods, but turned around and added 3 new ones, so you probably have room for about 4 or 5 more blob0.bundle mods until you hit the limit, so if you plan to add more mods on top of my mod list, which lots of people do with armors and npc mods stuff, when you hit that limit your save file will not load, you will stay stuck on the loading screen forever, and when you are really close to the limit, load screens and dialogue times increase by a lot, so it is always best to stay a few more mods under this limit and not right there at it where you can barely get loaded in and play.

You can just swap out mods with the ones I use and make cuts from the Textures and Meshes section and the NPCs section, theirs only a couple of mods from those sections that have scripts in them and any mod that has scripts in it, is required to use my script merges at the end.

Some people have asked me about adding this Merged Free DLC - Mod Limit FIX[www.nexusmods.com], and yes I am aware of this mod, but I have never used it, because I have never needed to, if the blob0.bundle limit ever becomes a big problem for me, what I would do is just install the Wolven Kit and pack all the smaller single blob0.bundle mods into one big bundle, that seems like a better option to me then messing with the official game files like that, and from what I read that merge DLC will break any mods that make changes to those DLCs that it merges, so if you are planning to use it, keep that in mind
Instructions for using the guide
Every mod, I will list the file that needs to be downloaded below the links, you always download from the files tab on the mod page and by clicking Manual Download.

Most all these mods will be installed with The Witcher 3 Mod Manager, unless I wrote additional instructions for a manual install below the mod link, then you install them with the Mod Manager.

At the top of The Witcher 3 Mod Manager select Settings then Configure Settings and Untick the Alert to run Script Merger, you do not need to run or use script merger at all through the process of installing my mod list, unless you know what you are doing and are planning on making your own merge.

To install a mod with The Witcher 3 Mod Manager, you download it with a manual download, then just drag and drop it into the mod manager screen.

As you download and install these mods, your downloads folder is going to start to get crowded, you should do what I do and that's back up all your downloaded archives. I mod a lot of games and it's important to stay organized, before I even install the mod, I rename the archive correctly with the correct version number, then in my witcher 3 modding folder I have a standalone folder titled W3 Mod Backups, and inside this folder I individually name the folders I place the mods in, I have them named after the sections of my guide, so all the mod archives I back up I can keep track of them and there version numbers, so all the mods I have listed in the Utilities section, I back up there archives in a folder named 01 Utilities and I follow that pattern all the way through, and if you number the folders in the order that my sections are listed in my guide they will not be sorted alphabetically, but instead be listed in the exact same order as my guide and it will make life a lot easier for you.

You only need to boot your game after the CommunityPatch-Base install, after that, do not boot the game any more until you finish my mod list, after that the game will not start, when you launch it you will get script compile errors until you finish installing my mod list and have the script merges installed.

If you skip any mods that are included in my merge files, then you will have to merge all these mods yourself, which is normally easy and is done automatically with script merger, but sometimes a manual merge is required and with my mod list I had to do several.

You need to use the version numbers of the files I use, if a mod gets updated and that version is no longer on the mod page then let me know and I will get it uploaded on google drive until I have time to update myself, if you use an updated file version that I do not use and it is included in my merge files at the end, then you may get errors when trying to boot your game.

If you miss any files on accident that are included in my merge then you will get errors while trying to start your game. Both merges work perfectly fine and if you finish and start your game and get errors then that is an indication that you have missed a file or used the wrong file version.

Make Backups
After doing the clean install, before you do any modding, boot the game and set up all your game settings and inputs the way you like them, once you finish, close the game out and we are going to make a back up copy of the follow stuff, that way just in case something does go wrong you will be able to start fresh again quickly, and it's good just to have this stuff, I backup a complete copy of the vanilla game, I do that for all games I mod a lot, it's a good practice and will come in handy

Lighting and Grass Mods
If you do not like the 2 Verona Lighting mods I am currently using, then I recommend Immersive Lighting[www.nexusmods.com] Main File - Immersive Lighting 2.2 OldGen, I normally use Immersive Lighting mod, I just wanted a change of scenery this time and I know it will not have any issues or extra assembly with my mod list, you just install it and I already have the load order priority set on my mod settings txt included in the merge.

You can use any lighting and grass mod that you want and I would encourage that, lighting mods change how the whole game feels and if you are not happy then you are not going to have fun, but you can not test these types of mods out until you finish the mod list and install the merge. In the past I have used Realistic Weather, Wiedzmin Lighting mod and an older version of Phoenix Lighting mod which is version 2, version 2 is simply the best of them all. It has been a while since I used anything other then Immersive Lighting mod, If you use a different lighting setup then I do, run script merger and check the Bundled Non-text - Not Mergeable conflicts it may have with my mod list, there should be none and if there is any and you do not know what you are doing, then I would not use the lighting mod that has the conflicts, pick something else

For different Lighting mods set the load priority to 6, for Toussaint Lighting mods set the load priority to 5, and for grass mods set the load priority to 1. The New Lightning Effect mod is included in the script merges and can not be skipped, depending on the lighting mod you want to use, you will have to add the names of the stormy weather to the lightnings.ws of the new lightning effect mod or the mod will not trigger when it storms, and that is only if the lighting mod adds in new storm weathers with custom names, the one I have provided will work with Immersive Lighting and the Verona Lighting mod I am currently using.

Grass mods will look different depending on the Lighting mod you are using, but vanilla grass usually looks good with them all and I normally use vanilla grass, with a good lighting mod and blitz fx vanilla grass looks pretty good, this time I went with Elysium made by the meadows author and posted on GudMods Discord, because it looks very good with the lighting mod I am currently using, other grass mods I am aware of are Meadows[www.nexusmods.com],Beautiful Grass Mod V3[www.nexusmods.com], and check the GudMods Discord[discord.gg] they are other options there as well

If you play the witcher 3 with mods I am sure you know what this mod is, if not it was a very popular animation mod that got deleted from Nexus after the next gen update, I all so put the fixed files in here with the whole package.
Conflict Resolution
Inside this is 2 separate merges I made, I will go over each one below so you know which one you need to use, inside each merge folder is modified xml files I set up to be used with Community Patch - Menu Strings to by pass the 9 mod menu limit, and then there is a mod settings text, this is the mod load order and it is to be used regardless of the merge you use. The input settings txt is only needed if you used the Camera section.

  • Witcher 3 Conflict Resolution[drive.google.com]
Extract this and inside the merge folder you need, place the bin folder and the Mods folder inside of your Witcher 3 game folder and select Yes to replace.

Place the mod settings text file in your C:\Users\*Your Name*\Documents\The Witcher 3 folder and select yes to replace when prompted

Only use the input settings text file if you used the Camera section, to install place it in your C:\Users\*Your Name*\Documents\The Witcher 3 folder and select yes to replace when prompted

  • No Camera Merge
Use this one if you used all sections, but decided to skip the camera section.

  • Script Merges
Use this one if you installed the whole mod list

After install boot your game and let the scripts compile, after they compile and you make it to the main menu close the game out, even if you are not going to install Reshade that is next, you need to exit the game and re-run it after script compilation is done, because of Ghost Mode, It was discovered that playing the game without doing so might result in weird bugs occurring, such as invalid (-1) number of potions, probably, something else. The nature of this bug is yet unknown, but the above procedure should prevent it from happening.
Mod Menu Settings
For the Mods Menu the majority of stuff comes setup the way I like it and I do not change nothing, here are a few things I do change and some game settings to change, I put a lot of the mods menus into sub menus within the mod menu using Menu Strings because the game has a 9 mod limit, so you will find them on the mods menu under categories now, like Gameplay or User interface.

  • From the Main Menu, select Downloadable Content, then Options and from here make sure everything is Turned On, you will find lots of mods listed here now, do not turn on the 3 alternate appearance options for Yennefer, Triss, and Ciri, these will keep some of the mods I use for them from working, and the Gwent Deck is not needed with the Gwent Redux mod so you can leave it off

  • Tweaks Mod
Boot the game, once it loads go to options, then video, then graphics, at the top underneath Graphics presets they will be 2 new ones titled Supreme and Ultimate, select Supreme, the Ultimate preset will cost a lot more performance for very little visual difference, I start with the Supreme preset, then I adjust lots of the settings to better balance it for my system, make sure you set Texture Memory Budget to 4084 or the game want be able to use the texture mods, all the rest of the stuff is up to you, you should play with it in game until you get the best settings for your setup

  • Blitz Fx
You can access the Blitz Fx menu in game by pressing the F8 key and the F7 key will toggle it on and off.

From the games Options\ Video \ Postprocessing menu turn off Motion Blur, Vignetting, and Bloom Blitz Fx has its own, then the mod page says turn off Light Shafts but I use them, all so disable Sharpening if using any Reshade presets that use a sharpening shader.

When playing through Toussaint, you may want to pull up the Blitz Fx menu with the F8 key, then click the Lighting tab to expand it and untick Contact Shadows, where Toussaint is very flat, you will see the contact shadows from Blitz Fx make the tree lods kind of black

  • Lit
Select Recommended preset, then turn Off Disable Normal Interaction, this setting can interfere with quests

  • Active Medallion
I run the Nightmare of the Wolf preset and turn off visual fx and vibrating medallion model, then Defaults, Minimum and very light presets for the rest

  • Cheating Yen and Triss
    Select the Default preset

  • Natural Torchlight
Set it up however you like.

  • Ice Breath
I put it on the Cold Places preset.

  • Friendly Stash
    I run the Roach preset.

  • Friendly HUD
I run the Minimalistic preset on 3d markers and then Default presets on all the rest and then I put the main menu on Blood and Wine for the best main menu music.

  • Ghost Mode
I run the recommended preset on everything, there is a lot of options to change here, this is the main game play overhaul, so look at everything and set it up the way you want it, I like the recommended presets the best.

  • Vladimir UI
I run the recommended preset, then under the games Hud settings I put the Hud display on Small.

  • Gervant First Person
For the first Person Camera set up your key bindings in the games key bindings and never "Reset to Default" in Key Bindings menu.

On the Camera menu I set it to Default, then I turn on Rotate with Vehicle and Head Rotation with Horse, then if you play with a controller set your sensitivity, Field of View I go with 80 and Combat I use the Default settings, for the Auto Switch to third person view I do not use any of these, but it does what it says so set that up if you want it

  • Immersive Camera
I like the close left presets, close combat and then Immersive presets for all the rest.

  • Combat Stance
I run the No Slow Walk preset and then I turn on Allow jumping in combat while sprinting

  • Enhanced Targeting
    Pick whichever preset suites you.

  • SCAAR
Set this up how you like it and if you play in first person like I do, then select the vanilla preset
ReShade
  • ReShade_Setup_5.9.2[drive.google.com]
Note - The newest reshade version 6.0 and above is causing the game to crash on launch if used with the Blitz Fx d3d11.dll, there is 2 alternate methods listed in the pinned comment on the mod page, but I am not doing none of that stuff when ReShade 5.9.2 works just fine and it's what I use

    Install Instructions
Run the ReShade_Setup_5.9.2.exe and click Browse and a new file explorer window will pop up then direct it to the game's executable inside The Witcher 3\bin\x64 folder, select the witcher3.exe, click it one time so its highlighted and select Open, back on Reshade select Next, select Direct3D 10/11/12 and next, next page select next, On the Effects page, it doesn't matter just tick standard effects to get it installed, you will be deleting those and replacing them with the shaders provided on my mod page.

Inside The Witcher 3\bin\x64 folder, delete the reshade-shaders folder and the reshade.ini

  • Goonz Witcher 3 Reshade[www.nexusmods.com]
    Main File - Classic 1.32 ReShade v1.32v1.3
Extract the download and inside the Witcher 3 folder I provided copy the bin folder to the inside of your Witcher 3 game folder and when prompted select Yes to replace your blitz.settings

Thanks for replying I see at the very top you addressing this, I missed it. Thanks a million for all your the effort and time you put in all Modding guides.
Goonz  [author] 20 Dec, 2022 @ 4:48pm
@4MUL8ers
No this mod list is broke with the next gen version, I posted a section at the very top talking about this, I wouldn't even play the next gen version of the witcher 3 right now, CDPJ introduced new bugs they are trying to fix right now like half the landscape disappearing, terrible performance and many other things people are reporting, I would wait on them to fix this stuff, plus give the modders time to update and make new next gen compatible versions of there mods, some mods have been updated and they are new mods I want to use, but there is not even 1 single grass mod or lighting mod that works right now. I am watching nexus and am on several modding discords and I will update my mod list for nextgen when stuff gets updated and several mods I use are confirmed to have updates in progress right now
4MUL8ers 20 Dec, 2022 @ 4:36pm
Hey Goonz, does any or all of this still work with the NEXT GEN update?
Goonz  [author] 5 Oct, 2022 @ 12:46am
Anyone who is interested, I updated this guide, added some new mods, updated all mods to there current main files from nexus, added new merge files and my mod settings txt, so no more setting priorities.
Goonz  [author] 30 Sep, 2022 @ 3:14pm
@LA CREATIVIDAD
The files you need have been added underneath there original links, it is hard to keep up with the rate some of these mods get updated and with me offering my merge you have to use the same exact file versions as I made the merge with, I am going to update it soon, get all the file versions up to date and look at adding some new stuff I have bookmarked, maybe within a month or so, last time I played was back in June, I been working on Fallout 4 and Skyrim all summer, it's about that time again to play some W3, and my Discord is linked in my other guides if you want to join, I'll get the link up here soon
LA CREATIVIDAD 30 Sep, 2022 @ 8:28am
@Goonz
Also - the first person camera mod has been updated - with that patch no longer being available on nexus
LA CREATIVIDAD 30 Sep, 2022 @ 7:27am
@Goonz
Need you to link another GoogleDrive version of Mod

Witcher Lore Collection - Ghost Mode Version v2.02 is no longer listed on Nexus Mods

Are you able to upload?

Tried to find your discord but not sure where the link is so posting here. Hopefully you see it soon. Not sure if unstalling newest version of Witcher lore mod will break my modding list later
Goonz  [author] 15 Jul, 2022 @ 7:52am
@Nomad
Yes only the mods in my screenshots have priorities and thats because of conflicts, if they don't load that way they will not work, and all the ones that have no priorities have no conflicts so no need to set any priorities.
Nomad45BC 15 Jul, 2022 @ 3:00am
UPDATE: Goonz! I work through your list on there and place the priorities the same as your list. I booted the game and still no errors has come up. So the remainder of the mods in the list has no priorities?
Nomad45BC 15 Jul, 2022 @ 2:11am
Hey there Goonz! Thank for getting back with me on that issue. The rest had no issues. However, I am at the part of placing your Merge file in and booting up the game to compile the script and all. I dont know how long to keep the game on before exiting out? When I did exit out of the game, I brought up my Mod Manager and the priority list didnt match yours. There wasnt even any priority number where they should be.. I even booted the game up again to check. then exited it and still the same. I must of made an error? I hope you understand my novel here. lol
