Consular-Class Frigate

Purpose: Corvette

Armament: 2 Laser Turrets

Block Type: 71 Large Blocks (PCU: 644)

Originally built as a line of diplomatic cruisers for Republic representatives, with the outbreak of the Clone Wars many Consular-Class cruisers were given the "Charger c70" upgrade to convert the unarmed vessels into warships. Within months of the start of the war these vessels were a relatively common sight on the battlefield.

Fairly well armed for their size, the Consular-Class saw extensive use by the Republic as a patrol craft, heavy transport and anti-starfighter escort. The vessel's compact size meant it could be stored within the ventral bays of Venator-Class Star Destroyers. This allowed Consular-Class Frigates to be carried along under Venators for use as a transport and escape pod.

These vessels would see near constant action thoughout the duration of the war. One of these vessels, The Swift Return, was destroyed during the Battle of Christophsis. One was utilized to transport Separatist leader Nute Gunray following his capture on Rodia. During the Battle of Quell the command crew of the Ayla Secura's Venator-Class Star Destroyer evacuated their crippled ship aboard a Consular-Class Frigate.

Following the end of the war, many, if not all, of the Consular-Class vessels were retired. However, many design elements present in the Consular-Class would live on in the CR90 Corvettes used prominently by the Rebel Alliance.
