The SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classic Collection already contains a large number of games. Probably more than any of us owned back in the day (if you owned the original console of course). But there are still many iconic games missing from the store. Luckily, there are ways to add additional games.

Do you have game roms you'd like to add to this launcher? That's no problem, as you can add them as game mods to any of the games you already have (other guides show you how). However, this only works if your games have US regional coding. This method does not work with regional game variants, like European releases.

If you do try to add a game with non-US regional coding, this will happen:


You will not be able to play the game, because the emulator in the launcher will run every rom with the US console setting by default.

The solution is actually rather simple, as it lies within the launcher itself. After a certain update in the past, SEGA did not only include one version of some games, but several. These variants actually are different localisations.

The game Beyond Oasis (aka The Story of Thor), for example, also includes the French, German and Spanish version. This shows, however, that the emulator is actually capable of running roms with different region coding already.


The only thing you have to do now is simply replacing one of the localisations with the game rom you want to add. This will work fine, as long as they have matching regional codes. You have to replace the rom though, because adding mods doesn't work with different localisations.

Replacing roms is actually very easy, thanks to PscdPack which you can get from here:

Just find the game in your directory: X:\[...]\steamapps\common\Sega Classics\data

These are the names of the games:
g9002.pak - The Story of Thor (Beyond Oasis) (FR)
g9003.pak - The Story of Thor (Beyond Oasis) (GE)
g9004.pak - The Story of Thor (Beyond Oasis) (SP)
g9007.pak - Landstalker (EN)
g9008.pak - Landstalker (FR)
g9009.pak - Landstalker (GE)

Choose one and load it up with PscdPack. You have to remember which one you modified, because that's the one you have to choose in the launcher to play. You don't need to change any settings, just click "Replace ROM" and choose the rom file you want to add.

For this method you could use either Beyond Oasis or Landstalker, as they are the only games with european localisations.

When you are done, close PscdPack. Now you can start the SEGA Classics collection, choose the game you replaced, find the correct localisation and start it up.

Now you can play your game!
