Spreadsheet
Lately, I decided to create a new spreadsheet for Octopath Traveler combining info from all my other guides related to this game and put all that into a single document. The goal was to have everything in one place. This includes all the info you need to complete your Strategist, Treasure Hunter, Eagle-Eyed and Collector achievements. All Missable and Limited items have all been highlighted in red so you don't miss any of those. Basically the spreadsheet has been built having in mind to help you play a "Perfect" playthrough. I have also included all the information you need related to Quests, NPCs, Equipment, Summons & Summon Beast abilities and more.

Since the game support multiple language I decided to include that feature in the document to reach as many people as possible. It's not 100% translated, but the most important stuff is.

Currently those are the language supported in the spreadsheet.
  • English (by: Marcv666)
  • French (by: Marcv666)
  • Spanish (by: L1MB3RT)
  • Traditional Chinese (by: Weichichi)
  • Simplified Chinese (by: Dracarys)
  • Korean (by: BowBeam9090)
There are still many other language left to add (or some that was never completed). If you would like to contribute to this effort and add up one more, please contact me and I'll give you rights to edit the document.

Many hours have been put into the document, if you like it feel free to rate this up. Also bear in mind that when you first load up the spreadsheet this will take a few second to load up things and when you first start to edit things you will also experience a little delay but after just a few clicks everything should be smooth and responsive.

The Spreasheet:
* Unfortunately Steam now blocks Google Sheet document as being potentially malicious. Looks like some hackers found a recent exploit to steal credentials using the comment feature to send fishing email to people. Of course this document won't try to steal any of your personal info so you should be safe using this link below. Just copy/paste the link below in your browser's address bar and you should be able to access it no problem.

How to work with the sheet
Create your own file to work with
If you open the spreadsheet and look into the "Checklist" tab, you'll have a complete listing of everything you need to get in order to complete your achievements (Strategist, Treasure Hunter and Eagle-Eyed). You'll even have a section in it where I list a bunch of stuff you could miss during your playthrough. As you can see I have placed a checkbox for each element that you'll have to find. Now before you are able to use those boxes, you'll have to make a copy of the file to yourself so you can edit your own copy. Obviously you don't want anyone else to edit YOUR listing, so you can't all work with the master file. All you need to do is: File -> Make a copy. If you are unfamiliar with Google Spreadsheet, once you close your file, just check out how to reopen it so you can continue with your current progress when you get back to it. Also keep in mind than I can fix any typo, errors or add new stuff at anytime in the "Master File", so if you're about to start a new game I always recommend you fetch yourself the latest version of the document with the link above.

Setup Language
Once you have your own copy you can now set which language you want to use. By default it is english but you can easily change that in the Language tab using the A3 cell. All you have to do is enter the corresponding column of the language you want to use, for instance "B" is for english, "C" for Italian, "D" for french and so on...

Most useful tip ever!
Remember, if you unintentionally make a change you don't want in the spreadsheet you can always "Undo" them (Ctrl+Z). I've used it many times after some miss click where for instance I dragged a check box to another cells or any other screw up I made unintentionally.

Design
If all you care is your achievements, then probably the Checklist tab alone will have everything you need to keep track of your progress as I've put a lot of effort to include everything from enemy weaknesses, chest and hidden items. I also added notes for everything that is missable and limited in there so if you're going for a perfect save file it should help a lot. As for the other tabs you'll have all kinds of other information about the game that could help you. The only thing the document is lacking in my opinion would be the level requirement for Alluring and Challenging NPCs, the concoction recipe, and the final area of the game (Galdera) but I may include those in the future.
Strategist: Discovered every enemy's weaknesses
What you need to do for this achievement is to reveal all weakness from every enemies in the game. Here are things you do NOT have to do to unlock the achievement:
  • Weakness from Challenge and Provoke, none of the NPCs are required to unveil their weakness to get your achievement. This also include "Ancient One", the monster you provoke as H'aanit during her chapter 2.
  • Bosses and one time encounter (Unique) are all exempt to get your achievement, none of them are required to get this achievement. You do however need to reveal weaknesses from "Mini bosses" which respawn as normal monsters after you beat them for the first time. Those will be well identified in the checklist and categorized in the "Enemies" tab. Even though Bosses and Unique aren't required I have listed them anyway for other purpose such as a few of them have missable items to get from their Steal/Drop table. You can still use those checkbox for them if you want to clear up what's left for you to do.

It is also worth noting that 4 enemies are missable in the game and this might be very good information to know before you start your playthrough. Those are:
  • Meep (spawn in the 1st tier of the Flatlands)
  • Cactus Roller (spawn in the 1st tier of the Sunlands)
  • Sea Birdian IV (spawn in the 2nd Tier of the Coastlands)
  • Buccaneer I (spawn in the 2nd Tier of the Coastlands)

You must get Meep and Cactus Roller before the Tier 1 zone increase to danger level 11. This means you have to get them before acquiring a full party of 4 character. You can still get both of them with 3 party members (or less) but once you acquire your 4th character you can't see them anymore, so keep that in mind when planning your route for your playthrough. Do note also that completing any Chapter 2 will also increase the danger level to 11.

As for Sea Birdian IV and Buccaneer I, you need to get them before their zone increase to danger level 34. Doing any chapter 2-3-4 will also increase the level of tier 2 zones. Even though you can do a few chapter 2 before you miss them, don't play with fire and just get them before doing any chapter 2.

Multiple people have reported that Meep and Cactus Roller are not required for the achievement. However regarding Sea Birdian 4 and Buccaneer 1 people that missed those 2 seems to have trouble getting the achievement. As always if you don't want to take any chances just make sure you don't skip any of them.

Warning
A bug has been discovered where the weaknesses you uncover are not saved at the end of battle if that enemy gets replaced by another one. This involves the "Proliferate" ability from monsters such as Shambling Weed, Rampant Weed and Mutant Mushroom.

For example, in "The Spectrewood" area you can encounter a group of:
- 2x Creeping Treant + 2x Shambling Weed
If you reveal some weaknesses on Creeping Treant and you first kill both of them and afterward the remaining Shambling Weed use their "Proliferate" ability, and both spot occupied by Creeping Treant gets filled up with other Shambling Weed, then those weaknesses you got during this battle won't save. This bug can also happens if you use Bewildering Grace and an enemy gets transformed. So be careful if you're doing this achievement and this happens to you.

If you ever find yourself in a position where you checked marked every enemies and you didn't unlock your strategist achievement, you'll have to double check the listing. Everyone who did double check eventually got their achievement. Just make sure you have the missable enemies and you should be good (Meep & Cactus Roller have been tested as not required for the achievement, but Sea Birdian 4 and Buccaneer 1 are required).

So once you reach 381/381 indicated at the top of the Checklist tab you should for sure earn your Strategist achievement.
Treasure Hunter: Open every treasure chest
The Treasure Hunter achievement is pretty simple. Just grab every chest in the game and you got it.

There's only 1 missable chest in the game but it's kinda hard to miss. Just make sure you pick up the chest down the pit when doing Cyrus chapter 3. Other than that it's a pretty safe achievement to do.

There are a few chest you won't be able to get them on your first visit to the area, but don't worry you'll be fine to get them later. Just get everything in the spread sheet and once your count goes up to 734/734 you should get it.
Eagle-Eyed: Found every hidden item
The Eagle-Eyed achievement has a few missable but if you are careful, it shouldn't give any problem. Just be careful when you meet up with:
  • Lord Ciaran's Herald in S'warkii. This NPC is available only during H'aanit chapter 1. So just make sure you have either Cyrus or Alfyn before getting H'aanit. This missable hidden item has been tested as not required for the achievement by 小赤佬有点皮, so if you missed it you can still get your achievement.
  • Zeph in Clearbrook. Be sure you get his hidden item before finishing Alfyn and Cyrus chapters 4 because after that the NPC gets ready to start the sidequest "Zeph and Mercedes" and at that point he no longer gives his hidden item.
  • Meryl also in Clearbrook. Get her hidden item before sharing knowledge about her past because once you complete "Meryl, Lost then Found (I)" she goes to Saintsbridge and she won't give you her hidden item anymore.
  • Bale in Wellspring. You can get his hidden item as soon as you start Olberic's chapter 3 but once you finish Olberic's chapter 4 it is no longer available.
  • Crest-bearing Swindler in Duskbarrow. Get his hidden item before you initiate any Challenge/Provoke as he will go away after you beat him.
  • Traveler in Trail to the Whitewood. Available only during quest "Arianna Again (I & II)" This one doesn't matter that much if you missed it as a few people have reported this one as not required to get the achievement. So whether or not you get it you're fine anyway.

You don't have to memorize this list, if you just follow the spreadsheet you should see the red highlights giving you hints of where to be careful. Other than that a few hidden items will be available later in the game, after a few chapters are completed, so you won't be able to get them right from the start but you don't have to worry about them, everything should eventually become available at some point. If for any reason you need to know when you can get a particular hidden item, you can look in the NPC tab under the "Scrutinize / Inquire" columns to find the hidden item you are looking for and then look in the "Note" column where I describe all the requirements for a NPC to appear.

Again, once you reach 152/152 you should obtain your achievement (could get it with a lower count if you missed those that are not required).
Collector: Acquired every item
This may be your last achievement you'll get in the game as this is requiring you to beat the real final boss to get the Spurning Ribbon. If you want to master this achievement, there are a couple things you'll need to do.
  • Make sure you get those missable in the game during your playthrough. They should all be well identified in the spreadsheet (in red) but here is the info anyway:
    • Obsidian Garb: Available only during Primrose chapter 3 boss fight. The easiest method is to steal the Obsidian Officer to make sure you get at least 1 copy of it. This has been tested as not required for the achievement by multiple source however you may want to get it anyway for a perfect save file.
    • Original Tome (Valuables): At the end of Cyrus chapter 4, you'll have to get 3 piece of knowledge in the right order. Just check up the spreadsheet for more information. While many missable have been reported as not required for the achievement be sure you don't miss this one as this one has been tested as required for the achievement.
    • 3 Knowledge about Weak Points from Joshua, Archibold and Gustav: You can get those knowledge during Olberic chapter 2. This one doesn't matter too much as it's been tested as not required for the achievement but if you still want them in your inventory, just Scrutinize/Inquire them before fighting them.
    • Tidings of Elderly Friends (Knowledge): This is a knowledge you can miss during Alfyn chapter 3. This has also been tested as not required for the achievement but if you want it, be sure to look for it during Alfyn chapter 3.
    • Brigand's Garb (Valuable): During Therion chapter 4 you'll be able to steal from 2 NPC holding Brigand's Garb and Brigand Leader's Garb. If you go directly for the Brigand Leader's Garb you'll miss the opportunity to pick up the other one. Once you have the Brigand's Garb you can check an optional scene upon entering Lorn Cathedral. Do note this valuable items is not required for the achievement however if you want to check up that optional scene you'll have to get it.
  • Try to complete all quests and sidequest and strip every NPC of their items and visit all shop to get what you don't already have.
  • Once you got most of the item, compare your inventory with the "Inventory" tab in the spreadsheet, whatever your are missing, search (Ctrl + F) that item through the "Enemies", "NPC", "Quest", and "Store" tab and you should see how to get what you're missing.

It is worth noting that you can sell items to vendors and they will still count to your progression, but since making money in this game is very easy, I recommend you keep at least 1 of every item so you can easily see what you're missing.

Valuables are important to get for your achievement unless I specify otherwise. Those will be harder to keep track because you lose some of them while completing quests, but I've put a color code so you can understand better which one of them you keep in your inventory and which one of them you give away. If you are unsure search for them in the NPC tab, most of them are given by NPCs so you can verify with the item giver if you already got it. A few people were missing the "Giant Tusk" so you might want to start with this valuables if you are unsure.

As for Knowledge it is unknowed to me if they are required or not for the achievement, Once again search in the NPC tab if you need to know where you can get any of those.

At least if you're able to get every Items + Valuables + Knowledges during your playthrough, you'll get the achievement.
Limited items
If all you care is to get your achievement then you can ignore this section and everywhere in the spreadsheet where I list something as a "Limited item". What I classified as limited item always have a way of obtaining it that is not missable. Limited just means you won't be able to buy from a shop or steal against a normal enemy to get unlimited number of them, where as things that I classified as Missable you'll have only 1 chance of getting it. However if you want the maximum number of limited items in your inventory then there's a few things you should know.
  • Items that can only be obtained during a boss fight such as the Obsidian Garb and a few others, you'll want to have the Snatch support skill equipped as this will double what you get when you steal an enemy.
  • Bosses always have 100% chance to drop their items but this doesn't include their minions. So if you want the maximum number of a limited items, in addition to steal with the Snatch support, you also want the item to drop from them. So if you were to fight against Albus and his Obsidian Officer, you would steal both Officer with Snatch support, this would give you 4 Obsidian Garb and you also want both of them to drop it, so at the end of combat if they don't drop it for a total count of 6 Obsidian Garb, you just reset and do the fight once more until you are happy. Those items are usually at 30% chance to drop each.

Other than that just follow the notes and highlights in the Checklist and you should have all the info you need in there.

Fast Progression Guide
Lately I made a series of video for Octopath Traveler, giving you some tips to progress fast in the game. Here i'll do things a bit differently than what speedrunners do, because this will be adapted for those who are completionist and i'm more of an item hoarder so I try not to spend my nuts and some other items but I'm still trying to go as fast as possible.

I would not recommend you watch those videos if you're new to the game. It would be better for you if you experience the game at least once in a normal way because here i'll be breaking completely the difficulty of the game, however if you already played it and just wanna take your achievement fast, then the following will probably help you.

Now if you decide to follow these video you should expect to get level 50 with your initial 4 party member and with all 4 advance job in hand by around the 3 hour mark, and the last video will be how to setup your party for your level 99 grind. And forgive me for my bad english on those videos as I rarely speak the language so it wasn't easy for me to record, however I do believe this will be of great help if you want to learn how to go fast in that game.

First video will focus on starting with Tressa and get her good equipment for her:
https://youtu.be/9sXC7txQ7y4

In the second one, i'll be acquiring my full party and get them some good stuff for each party member:
https://youtu.be/j4rvZXm0DvY

In the third video, I'll do my first grind of the game in Tomb of Kings and Maw of the Ice Dragon, this will get you some abilities and levels in no time:
https://youtu.be/49rhqsAswYs

How you can beat Dreisang easy:
https://youtu.be/NF7n3cs7gV0

Similar strategy to beat Steorra:
https://youtu.be/NPn2HOKLAFg

One Shotting Balogar:
https://youtu.be/1m3uQdZH1sw

One Shotting Winnehild:
https://youtu.be/K0Eh2MYyIms

I know the temptation to use Bewildering Grace to get X100 multiplier will be there and some people claim it is worth using it, but trust me, I did some math over this and you get way more exp on average just one-shotting enemies fast rather than waste time to cast Bewildering Grace. It may sound worth while using Bewildering Grace when getting a Chubby Cait encounter, but even that I wouldn't recommend because of the relatively high chance of dying from the skill and for sure you don't wanna lose an hour of progress because you tried your luck and didn't saved for a while.

Also, you have to know that Captain's Badge, Extra Experience support and X100 Exp from Bewildering Grace all adds up additively, NOT multiplicatively, this means while wearing both Captain's Badge and Extra Experience support you have a 100% bonus to exp, now add up X100 multiplier and your exp now gets multiplied by 101, NOT 200. This means in the end game while having both +50% exp perk, if you hit X100 multiplier it actually multiply your exp by only 50.5%, if you get X5 multiplier it actually multiply your exp by only 300% and getting X2 multiplier actually multiply your exp by only 150%. Anyway I just wanna tell you to not trust any source saying Bewildering Grace is good in any way to level up fast, as this will in fact slow you down considerably :

@TheLazyPlumbers thanks for your input, i have clarified the notes for theses NPCs.

Hi, I want to point out a few minor things regarding the spreadsheet:
1. The spreadsheet says that the Merchant NPC in Atlasdam Palace Gate (the one that spawns a Large Feather if Inquired/Scrutinized) appears after completing Cyrus' Chapter 1, but he actually appears during Cyrus' Chapter 1, after he Scrutinizes the four NPCs for information on who stole the tome "The Church of the Sacred Flame: A Historie".
2. The two Merchant NPCs from Therion's Chapter 1 disappear during the chapter and reappear after completing it. The one that Therion can Steal an Enlightening Earring from moves to Lower Bolderfall after triggering the cutscene with the two thieves following Therion, but before Therion Steals the Letter of Introduction, at which point he disappears until completing the chapter. The one that Therion can Steal various Soulstones from disappears after triggering the aforementioned cutscene until completing the chapter. The spreadsheet does not mention these.
marcv666  [author] 17 Apr @ 10:03am
@UltraZockt unfortunately not. However I don't think your savefile records the boss weaknesses (or any 1 time encounter weaknesses) To support this claim, you can run away against Ancient One during H'aanit chapter 2 then when you restart the fight the weaknesses you previously uncovered doesn't record. Also bosses often have different set of weaknesses making it logical to not record them. Anyway this is just to tell you, on my side I care less for boss weakness than items on NPC. But this is up to you in the end...
UltraZockt 16 Apr @ 3:54pm
@marcv666 so it is basiclly impossible to do both :(
marcv666  [author] 16 Apr @ 1:37pm
@UltraZockt yes that's right, on the other hand if you wanna strip every single NPC of their items, you got to start with either Tressa or Therion, cause you have Yvon available only during Cyrus chapter 1.
UltraZockt 15 Apr @ 4:42pm
So if you start with anyone besides Cyrus you wont be able to scan the all Weaknesses of the 1st Boss since you are not allowed to leave the first area before you finish your 1st Story. Am I right?
If you really want to see all Weaknesses you have to start with Cyrus...

Hello marcv666, I would like to translate the spreadsheet into Korean(I'm already working on it).
I sent you a friend request, so feel free to contact me. :flowey:
marcv666  [author] 29 Nov, 2023 @ 8:07pm
@kuroinu as for Therion chapter 3 item, you can't miss it, you'll normaly only get one of the 3 items, either Aristocrat's Mask, Attendant Mask or Black Market Inventory, so i'm not sure why you have 2 of them. According to my spreadsheet you don't lose those over completing any quest.

As for the Eagle Eye achievement, I really doubt there's a bug here. Sometimes the item you need isn't in the same area as the NPC who reveals it. That would be the first thing I would check. If you really think there's a bug, invite me as friend on steam and i'll look into your savefile.
kuroinu 26 Nov, 2023 @ 12:37pm
Since I am here and I'm about to complete the game, I wanted to ask you something. I have all the items listed in your spreadsheet except two. One is obviously the item that you get from beating the final boss. The other is the Attendant Mask from Therion Episode 3 (I have Aristocrat's Mask and Black Market Inventory). I don't remember which method I used to resolve Therion Episode. Do you know if you loose the item you used after the cut scene? Or did I missed attendant's Mask? Thanks.
kuroinu 26 Nov, 2023 @ 12:24pm
Hello marcv666. I want to inform you about a bug that prevented me to get the Eagle Eye achievement (just in case you have heard something similar). After clearing the game with your spread sheet I was unable to obtain the Eagle Eye achievement. I used a save editor to check what hidden items I may have missed in my journey. Turns out the game "thinks" I missed a single hidden item on Northreach (as you may recall, none of the missable hidden items are located there). I went back to the game, re scrutinize every NPC, and the hidden item is still missing from the registry. I have searched over and over again in Northreach from the supposed missing hidden item, but I swear on my mothers grave that the item has already been picked up (presumably during Therion Episode 4). Anyway, If you are interested into testing this issue for yourself, I can send you the save file and all the documentation needed. Thanks again for all your hard and detailed work.
