The Loknar frigate was designed as a possible conversion from the standard Frigate hull. It utilized the same saucer and nacelles, but moved the deflector array and torpedo bays from the fore to two rear mounted pylons.

The new location decreased the likelihood of the deflector array being targeted in combat. Distributing vital systems between two secondary hulls also made it more difficult to cripple the ship with a single concentrated attack.
