Compass Translations and Solutions
By fragkitten
I do not speak Chinese. It's a beautiful language with many nuances that elude me, so this guide won't be perfect. It is meant to help to simplify the compass a little more for English speakers. I hope this doesn't offend anyone, my intentions are good. I put the actual solutions at the very bottom in case you are only interested in the compass, but use caution. There are SPOILERS AHEAD!

Preface
The compass in Paper Dolls 2 has proven to be one of the trickiest puzzles in the game. It is not explained very clearly which made finding the right clues to solve each magically sealed door pretty tough.

Hopefully this guide will help to simplify it a bit, since requests to the Devs for some kind of translation have gone unanswered. I made this to help out my fellow gamers. Big or small, I love you all. <3

I don't make guides often. I'm sorta like the A-team where I only answer the call if you can find me and drag me out from under whatever bridge I'm lurking under.

Nevertheless, I shall be tickled pink if this helps anyone. Even if it's only one person. The compass in this game is no joke, and took a couple hours of research to decipher. But here it is. For you.

The Compass
The compass starts off as an incomplete device that only has the first ring to start. But as you progress in the game, you are able to collect two more pieces. Then you have both rings for deciphering the solutions.

The game provides vague clues pointing you in the direction of the five elememnts and the four pillars of destiny. A little bit of brain grease and googling will lead you to studies on Taoist cosmology, I-ching, and some really fun language learning videos. :)

The first ring is the five Chinese elements:

  • Metal - 金 Jīn

  • Wood - 木 Mù

  • Water - 水 Shuǐ

  • Fire - 火 Huǒ

  • Earth - 土 Tǔ

The second ring is the eight trigrams or baguas used in Taoist cosmology:

  • Heaven - Qian 乾
  • Wind - Xun 巽
  • Water - Kan 坎
  • Mountain - Gen 艮
  • Earth - Kun 坤
  • Thunder - Zhen 震
  • Fire - Li 離
  • Lake - Dui 兌

Compass Solutions
Keep in mind that when you are operating the compass, that the needle will point in the direction of the element on the door. This is where you need to line up the tiles. Another thing to remember is that if you look closely at the door, you will see a glowing bagua. This is how you pair them with the elements.

After matching the elements up to their corresponding trigram or bagua, these are the answers you will have. Good job!

The solution formula is as follows:

Door Color - Needle Direction - Element - Bagua/Trigram

  • Green - West - Metal 金 - Wind
  • Red - South - Fire 火 - Thunder
  • Blue - East - Water 水 - Water

In summation...
Easy peasy lemon squeezy!! Right? Right!?!

Just kidding, that was my poor attempt at sarcasm.

Difficult, difficult, lemon difficult.

You're welcome, my darlings. Your compass is now translated.

This guide is useful and thanks for making it. I just hope there was some kind of objective list so you could check what do you need to do if you don't remember or know where you need to go.:cozybethesda:
