Re-Mapping Keys to "Unaviable" Keys
By Ben
This is a guide to re-map the keyboard controls to keys that the game won't allow you to use, for example the Y key using "Universal Control Remapper"!

Intro
Hello everyone!

Players of the Megaman Zero/ZX Legacy Collection that want to play with their Keyboard for default controls surely noticed an odd "bug" (if it's supposed to be one), that you CAN'T remap your controls to certain keys.

I for example am used to have Jump on the Y key - which isn't possible via the ingame remapping, thus we are in need of some help. While the forums suggested using AutoHotKey, I didn't got that to work, but then I recently stumbled upon a tool called "Universal Control Remapper", which I got to work in the end.

This guide shows how to remap keys with said tool, so let's get started, shall we?
Requirements
In order to get the Re-Mapping to work, you need just 2 things:

  • Universal Control Remapper (UCR) - the tool that does the magic
    Download here: https://github.com/Snoothy/UCR
  • Interception - This is needed to get the Keyboard set as seperate device in UCR
    Download here: https://github.com/oblitum/Interception

Note: If the direct link doesn't work, copy the path into your browser, I don't know why Steam screws up the links lately but the tools are still up.
Preparation
First you need to download both tools, "Universal Control Remapper" and "Interception" and unpack the ZIP contents to a place of your liking, in my example it's simply by download Folder, but you can do it as you wish.
Interception
After that's done, we need to install "Interception", so open the Command Prompt with Administration Rights, move to the subfolder "command line installer" in the unpacked "Interception" folder (you can copy the path in Windows Explorer, then type "cd #copiedpath#" (without quotes) with the copied path being ... well your copied path, and then type "install-interception /install" without the quotes (if you want to uninstall that tool later, just do the same command but with /uninstall instead)

After that's done, Reboot your machine.
Automatic Control Remapper
Next we get to the main event, the "Automatic Control Remapper".

Head to the folder where you unpacked the contents of the tool and open "UCR.exe"

Here, you see the default start window, which looks like this:

Press the "Add profile" button as showed.

Next we see this Window where you have to name your profile as you like and select the devices you want to use for the remapping, in my case my Keyboard:

PS.: I have no idea, why it's shown twice, but it doesn't matter.

Next up, we're in the Plugin window, where you press the + next to the Button to Button plugin, it looks like this:

It will ask for a name, it's just for better overview, in my example it's jump, next we get to the actual setup for this key, which looks like this, in my example, I switched the SPACE Key (LEER because I'm german) to the Y key. You have to but your desired input key in the top space and the one you want to change at the bottom. Since the game puts Jump on SPACE, I just put that to the Y Key which ISN'T POSSIBLE in the game itself, you can't put anything on that key and I'm pretty sure there are other keys with the same fate.

Now you can play around and switch around keys to your liking.

After that's done, you can go back to the main screen and Press the Play button as shown or at the top bar of the Window - the Stop button unloads this switcheroo again (Just don't forget to unload it after you played!)

You can do this while you're ingame to check if things worked out correctly, no need to start and close again after each change.
Outro
That's how I got my keyboard controls fixed, I can finally use the Y key to actually jump - I'm still confused why the keys won't work ingame with default remapping, but this works just as well, I didn't notice any input lag.

So, I hope this little guide helped to get you into one of the best Megaman collections with Keyboard controls that don't limit you to the games liking!

If there are still questions or feedback, I'm all open for that.

Enjoy, stay safe and have fun, everyone!

@Maryo Strange, the links should work, Steam itself apparently screws up the links. Just copy the path to your browser and it should open just fine.

@SonictheBoi Have you tried to start the program as Administrator? A Laptop shouldn't be the problem here.

Glad the guide was of help (probably underrated because Keyboard players are probably the minority these days), it was so frustrating that you couldn't keybing all the keys, that's such a major oversight for those who don't want to play with controllers. And yeah, I did the same when I was young, beating all of it on the keyboard.
