Phoenix is a hero that can really take many roles in a team's strategy. The way I like to play him and as this build sets up is as a carry/teamfighter.

Honestly he is hard to play to this potential though. Really you need to practice all of his abilities to get the timing down. The best tips I can tell you are that you really need to be careful traveling with the Sun Ray and you must use all your abilities and items before going into Supernova.
