Description
RAF-GAZ-13S - a medical station wagon based on the GAZ-13 "Chaika", produced at the Gorky Automobile Plant and the Riga Bus Factory from 1968 to 1981

Probably for the same reason americans (eg cadillac. "combination Cars") and Germans (Binz) did. Powerful motors for speed, and better suspension to protect the patient. Also the american ones often did double duty as a hearse.

Looks very nice! But, as far s i know, this particular car was always GAZ, RAF had nothing to do with it. I believe RAF used some of the same engines as GAZ in their minibuses, but that's all.
