Not sure what the 'point' of being the 'pointman' is?
Here's some help to keep you alive in the jungle and become an effective pointman.

(This guide is currently a work in progress so more information will be added as I wait in queues)

Your finding yourself alone in the jungle with your teammates far behind?
The enemy just capped the point and everyone is retreating but your hanging back to take out the advancing enemy team?
Leading the way to signal traps so the FNG doesn't hit a trip wire and blow you all to hell?

Then your doing the job of a Pointman.

This guide will talk about the different weapons, tactics associated with them and general tips to playing the pointman to his full ability.
Weapons (United States Army & Marine Corps)
M37 Ithaca Trench Shotgun
This weapon right here is the main reason to play Pointman. You can easily take down the VC with 1-2 rounds of buckshot and it doesn't require the best aim. It can get pretty random fatal shots with the first crack which makes this weapon my go-to whenever I can possibly get into this class.



M3A1 Grease Gun

Not my favorite weapon to run but it is very effective when your hopping bush to bush. It has a slow rate of fire compared to other full auto weapons and it doesn't have a ton of stopping power. Found it to be most useful in the dense jungle where you can hide. It can be used for clearing tunnels and bunkers but due to the main characteristics of the weapon, it generally doesn't get the job done as well as the M16 or the Trench Shotgun. It has little recoil so it may be better for a newbie to start with but honestly think you'd be better off learning to control the recoil of an M16 on full-auto instead.


M2 Carbine
Very effective weapon. I'd call it an M14 with full-auto capability and little recoil. It does amazingly well on maps like Operation Forrest due to it's ability to transition from a long range fight to indoors. The clip size allows you to put a good amount of rounds down range but you only have four clips, making it important to know where resupply points are so you can stay stocked up instead of running out at the worst time.

XM177E1 CAR-15 Commando
Hardly ever use this weapon. It feels very similar to the M16 but worse in my opinion.
Pointman Role Abilities
As stated earlier, your job as the pointman should be in the front of your squad or going Rambo in the bush. You have great capabilities to transition in a fight based on distance with the weapon choices you have. The Trench Shotgun(for obvious reasons) is not great at long distance but I've gotten plenty of head shots at 100m away to make it worth while even when that VC looks like a spec in the distance(same goes for the Hunting Shotgun.)

The most important job you have is deploying smoke. Always use your smoke in a way that will cover the rest of your team when advancing. It is not that important for defense unless your trying to take back a captured point from the enemy, it will just offer a screen for the enemy to get within grenade range. It can be used in very specific situations to block the enemies sight so they will run into ambush but it is rather infrequent.

Your next task is to identify and disable any boobie traps you discover in the area. When you get close, you'll give off an audio signal that there is something in the area. Looking at it, it will start to flash red. You can crawl or crouch-walk up to it and disable it when the button to do so shows up on your screen. This will prevent needless deaths to you and your teammates so keep your eyes out to save lives.

It definitely isn't ideal to be the SL as pointman but for some reason, I always get promoted to SL when I am. Just gotta make it work.
