How to tell FAKE females from REAL ones on Steam
By ☯ dreamer ☮
This guide is for people, who have a reasonable doubt about the other person they are dealing with, but it may serve for educational purposes in general as well.

Anyone can use a fake profile. From government agencies, companies, kiddie hackers and professional online criminals... Truly strong fake identities are built slowly and take time. Social engineering methods are used to surpass any psychological barriers that the person behind the fake profile might detect in his targets.

In this guide, I will try to give you as much help as I can to find out if the female you are dealing with is real or not. You can save yourself a lot of time and other resources by not wasting your time with a fake person. Not to mention, you will maintain your peace of mind.

If you think this guide may help someone in your friend list, make sure you hit the Favorite button!
Many people don't like the fact that this guide exists and are downvoting it. Let's beat them by upvoting it, we can do it!

Normal tip 1: A lot of links got removed from this guide for some reason, so I will just suggest what you should search on Google to find the website

Pro Tip 1: As time goes on, some fake females may adapt according to the clues in this guide, so it is good to take that into account.
Pro Tip 2: This guide can be used for detecting fake people and profiles in general, if you can adapt my advice to your current situation or circumstances.

1. First things first... the definitions!
This section aims to clarify the definitions of some terms used in this guide. It doesn't aim to become a standard for the whole society. It exists ONLY for the purpose of understanding this guide as closely as possible. It doesn't aim to cause misogyny, sexism, transphobia or any other negative thing related to women.

What is a FAKE female?
A FAKE female is either a male (or sometimes female) pretending to be a(nother) female.
(They are also mentioned in this guide)
OR
A fake female is a girl that are does not look natural and uses a lot of (sometimes too many) beauty enhancements to look better (or atleast she thinks she looks better). No misogyny intended, sorry!

What is a REAL female?
A REAL female is a person born as a girl, who identifies with female gender most of her life. No transphobia intended, sorry!
(They are also mentioned in this guide)
OR
A real female has a natural look and is honest most of the time. For real!

I use the word girl or girls very often in this guide and it is referring to females in general mostly.

This guide is NOT about FAKE gamer girls, sorry! Google is your friend!

It is very important to mention that NOT all FAKE girl experiences are bad. Sometimes, even after you uncover the real identity of the person behind the fake profile, you may decide to stay friends in the online world, if you care about each other and your mutual trust is not too damaged. But it requires a lot of maturity on both sides. I wanted to do a whole section on the posibility of a positive experience with a FAKE female, but this is probably all that needs to be said right now.
2. If you think this can't happen to you, read this!
  • Fake profiles exist whether you like it or not
  • Fake profiles exist whether you believe it or not
  • You may have seen a fake profile already, without even knowing it was fake

Here I will include a few things that you most probably didn't know even existed:
  • [Google: How to Create a Fake Facebook Profile]
  • Someone actually created a guide about creating a fake BF or GF
[Google: How to Create a Fake Boyfriend or Girlfriend]
  • If you feel so confident that you are a fake profile detector, try this...
[Google: This person does not exist dot com]
3. Don't make quick decisions or judgements
Making up your mind about your potentially fake female Steam friend should be a careful process of examination.

The differences between men and women are decreasing in today's open and connected world, so be careful with your judgements and conclusions. I am saying this, because
sometimes girls act like guys and vice versa - guys act like girls.
A human being is composed of many ingredients, experiences and behaviors, which may appear inconsistent, because people may change over time with new experiences in their life.

Telling the person on the other side that she is a fake girl and being WRONG about it, may have serious consequences for your relationship and your life, so be careful!

A scammer may try to pressure you into making a fast decision like sending him money, but don't fall for this trap. Take your time to decide, as you will be advised later in the guide.

The final decision should be made after a very careful consideration of all evidence. NEVER make the decision that someone is FAKE based only on one clue!
4. Types of fake females
People have various motivations for creating a fake profile, let's talk about some of them briefly:

Transgender human expressing her female self in the safety of an anonymized online environment
This is probably the least common type, but it is good to know they exist. They should be virtually harmless.

For fun and self-exploration
This is possibly the most common type, especially for young people. Pretending to be a girl can be a funny way to explore your softer, more gentle side and your acting skills! And everything is fine, if you just cause no harm! This type is also used for pranks. They are moderately harmful.

The Scammer
This type will try to cheat you into thinking something and then use you or scam you in some way that benefits them and NOT you.
A common sub-type of The Scammer is The Impersonator - someone pretending to be a famous person, usually a pro player or a famous streamer.
This type is the most dangerous, because sometimes a female is behind the fake identity, which makes it a lot harder to tell the difference. She is just... not the one in the photos.

There may be types of fake females that I didn't mention here, so don't try to put every fake female into a box that fits your models of reality. You will save yourself a lot of time and being wrong.
5. Look for inconsistencies, ask the right questions
Creating and maintaining a fake identity is not easy and people tend to make mistakes.

You may come across moments like:
  • How does she know that? Is she a guy?
  • This is something a guy would do, right?
  • Would a girl really play all of these games?
  • Would a girl really join all of these groups?
  • Would a girl really have this Custom URL* used in her profile?
  • Why does she have such a low Steam profile level?
  • Why is the age of her account so low?*
  • Is the same person in all of her photos?
  • Why is this person interested in me all of a sudden? What is "her" REAL motivation?
  • Why do people refer to that person as a male in her profile comments in the past?
  • Feel free to come up with your own questions...

Just watch what the person SAYs and what it DOes, if it is in harmony. Usually, it can tell you a lot about the person.

*Custom URL = https://www.steamproxy.net/id/HEREisTHEcustomNICKNAME
*Steam account age shouldn’t be taken too seriously, because even older Steam accounts can be bought in an online marketplace
6. Dig deeper and do a background check
Most fake girls do not have a normal life story. They may use their own life story and experience to create a seemingly real personality. And some very intelligent people may be very good at it, but if you dig deeper to the details of their life, their social media accounts and so on... most fake people will just fall apart, unless they have spent a lot of time creating a perfect fake identity or stole someone else's identity.

If you dig deeper, the other person will have to start making up answers and more lies sooner or later and there is a higher chance for them to be inconsistent in the future.

Fake profiles usually change more often then regular profiles, for example the country of origin, the main nickname, the profile avatar picture and so on.

Here are some tools you can use to do a background check:
  • [Google: steamid dot uk] (not as effective as before - people may request to have some of their historic data deleted)
  • [Google: steamrep dot com]
  • [Google: steamladder dot com]
  • [Google: Google Image Search and search by uploading or linking an image]

As an example, I will use one guy, who was reported by many people to be a FAKE female, tried to have sexual conversations with multiple girls and women, and using his friends to scare them so they do not talk about it.
  • steamid dot uk and search for 76561198263102434
  • steamrep dot com and search for 76561198263102434
  • steamladder dot com and search for 76561198263102434

You are looking for the number of
  • Name changes stored for this account
  • Previous Persona Names
  • Historic Friends
and whatever else you want...

I will not share the compromising chat screenshots here, because public shaming is not the goal of this guide.
7. Females are humans too. Fake girls... not so much.
Believe it or not, girls are humans too!
They are imperfect, they make mistakes, they have fears and insecurities like a lot of other people do.

Fake girls are a lot more likely to act as being perfect or without mistakes so that you do not even think about doubting or questioning them.

Nice comment tip from DHALOH:
In the online environment, females are mostly just regular gamers like you, so they use nicknames or usernames, not their real names like "Jessica" and usually won't have a selfie as a profile picture. Any girl who is proud of being a "girl gamer" is probably a guy. The real ones are just gamers.
8. Too attractive or sexually suggestive photos
A lot of fake girls get their photos on the internet from Google image search, or maybe even some real social media accounts, which are not theirs.

Sometimes it helps to do a reverse image search - searching not by text, but uploading an image that should be searched for.

When it comes to photos, some scammers find similar photos from different girls and pretend it is one person, eventhough it is not. Be careful with that!

Let's be honest here about some old stereotypes:
  • There are REAL girls in the world, who DO enjoy a lot of attention
  • There are REAL girls in the world, who DON'T enjoy a lot of attention
  • Some girls are EVEN openly saying they like pornography

The difference between a FAKE girl and a REAL girl is for example in the level of "dirtyness"
  • Most REAL girls DON'T want to look like prostitutes, unless they are getting paid for it well
  • Most REAL girls DON'T want to have their message inbox, friend requests, profile comments (and so on) flooded with horny men. It takes them a lot of time to read and delete all of it
  • Most REAL girls have a sense of PRIVACY and there are things they would never share on the internet, so keep that in mind

Sometimes it is good to ask yourself: Why would this very attractive girl want to spend her time chatting with me? The reality is, that sometimes very attractive women have nice personalities, so they are nice to everyone in general. So you are not so special to her as you may think.
Sorry bro! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It is also important to mention, that images and moving images can contain malicious code, that can steal your personal information from your computer. It is always a good idea to clean your browser cache and browser cookies in Steam settings from time to time.
9. Real females are more irrational and emotional than males, on average
Being more irrational, emotional and sensitive is not always a bad thing. A lot of REAL girls have nice personalities, like cute things and they give you a good safe warm feeling, when you look at them.
I don't want to offend anyone here, but it is true and there is not much we can do about the hormonal levels changing from time to time.
Women have a higher sensitivity to danger, which makes them more careful and caring about safety for herself and other people as well. Keep that in mind.

If the person on the other side of the internet is too calm, level-headed and rational for a girl, most of the time - it is probably a guy.

Females are more sensitive in general, which may be beneficial for intuition, but for knowing the real truth, you need critical thinking more than intuition.

BUT it is usually a lot easier to manipulate people with fake emotions than with fake facts
So it makes females more vulnerable to manipulation.

Acting emotions is very easy in the online world
Because you can just write whatever you want with more emoticons and it may look real, even when it is NOT!
10. The other person is obviously trying to play with your feelings
A lot of scammers try to play with your emotions to make you feel sorry for them in order for you to be more willing to "help" them. If they succeed, they may try to use you to send them money and so on.

Playing with someone's feelings can be dangerous, because you never know all the things that may happen inside the person that is being manipulated.
11. Aggressive or Uncomfortable chat experience
Some fake girls pretend being interested in you by talking a lot about themselves, which may be a sign of hiding something from you that you should see and diverting your attention.
Asking a lot of personal questions about you (which you should NOT answer) usually leads to a scam or sometimes robery, because the person gets to know your weak spots.

NEVER tell your personal information to someone on the internet you just met or don't know in real life.
Also don't open any links or file attachments, unless you are sure they are safe.

Last, but not least... Aggressive chat behavior includes love bombing or also saying many nice things to you for apparently no reason, in a short period of time... trying to get you to like the fake girl as fast as possible.

A fake female may try to have a sexual conversation with you too early... or without your consent.
12. The Voice chat or Video chat test
Most fake girls on the internet will refuse to go on Voice chat or Video chat with you.
They may promise to do so, but eventually they will find an excuse why it does not happen in the end.
It is also possible that the liar asks a girl he knows to do the voice call or video call for him. But in this way, they can't do it often.

You may also try to ask the fake girl for her social media nicknames in return for yours.
13. Being fake gets harder as time goes on
In order to maintain a fake identity, the deceiver has to create a web of lies that is harder to maintain as time goes on, because all lies are hard to remember and there is a higher risk of being inconsistent.
Do NOT let the person rush you into any decision at any point in time! Take your time.
14. What to do next?
Let's say that you found out, that your female friend is indeed fake and the trust between you two is completely broken. What should you do?

In any case, report the profile of the person to Steam moderators. That is pretty much the least you can do.

The passive approach (safe)
Delete the person from your friend list and block all communication with them, without saying anything more to the other person. Move on with your life and try to forget about this experience.

The confrontation (moderately dangerous)
Confront the person with your findings about her being fake. The other person may refuse to agree to keep their cover, or they may confess that your opinion is true. Either way, you most probably let out all the anger and negativity on the other person and you may feel a sense of relief. This scenario may result in the pretender removing you, blocking you, maybe even spreading lies about you and trying to turn people against you. If you think the person may cause harm to other people, let them know. Do NOT spam the profile of the person, since it will most likely get deleted.

The revenge (dangerous)
This is almost never a good idea, since it is NEVER only a case of you doing something to someone else. It is always a double-edged sword. You do something to someone and the other person (or their family) usually reacts in some way, possibly trying to hurt you mentally or physically. This option is not recommended at all.

Should you call the police?
In a serious case, Yes. Otherwise, NO!

Calling the police may help in more serious situations when
  • you feel followed, threatened or worried about your life
  • you lost a significant amount of money or something expensive
  • serious material, physical or mental damage has been done
In less serious cases, calling the police may result in unnecessary problems for you and you will be wasting some time of the police officers.
15. Always look on the bright side of life
This most probably unpleasant experience taught you something about yourself, about other people and about life in general. Use it to become a stronger and more complete human being.
16. Criticism received by this guide
Some real females feel that:
  • people will question real women (possibly making them feeling uncomfortable) online because of this guide
  • there should be a guide about spotting FAKE males (why isn't there one already??!)
  • this guide includes misogyny, sexism and possibly transphobia
  • this guide should not even exist
  • this guide is very judgemental
  • why would someone look for a relationship on Steam

But you are free to come up with your own opinion.

Feel free to post your feedback in the comments!

Thank you for reading this guide, I hope it helped you in some way and possibly saved you from losing your peace of mind or some money that you would otherwise give to a fake girl or a scammer. Take care!

FUN FACT One person removed me from their friends list as soon as I published the first draft of this guide. It may not mean anything at all, but... who knows!
EDIT: Later she confessed that she does not understand why someone would search for a relationship on Steam.
