How to complete Mooncrash without yelling, pulling your hair out or smashing things around you
By ♥♥♥♥ Goblin
Prey: Mooncrash isn't like the original game. It can be frustrating. This guide intends to help you avoid the pitfalls and issues I had while playing the DLC so that you can complete it (and get all the achievements) without wasting hours of your life.

Getting Started
This DLC requires multiple playthroughs to get the achievements. A playthrough is different than the base game because you keep your neuromods and character unlocks but not your items. To limit the number of playthroughs, this guide attempts to show you the way to enlightenment.

Each character has to be unlocked, then has to have their story unlocked, and finally have all neuromods installed (the easiest part).

Each escape method can only be used ONCE. There are 5 escape methods: escape pod (random location), shuttle, mass driver, mimic portal, brain upload (Dr. Riley is the only one who can do this option).

Pitfall #1: If you use an escape method intended to unlock another character and/or their story, you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up and have to do another playthrough. This means if you finally unlock Claire and use her to hack the mimic portal - don't use the mimic portal (!!!) or else Andrius cannot unlock their story in the same playthrough. Similarly, Andrius' story requires him to escape in the escape pod.

Corruption Timer

If you hate the corruption timer, there are multiple mods that disable it and/or slow it down. Check out the files section further below for instructions on downloading and installing the mods (really easy). Otherwise you will eventually find a fabrication plan for the delay.loop and can use it slow down the timer.

Note: If the corruption timer reaches beyond the 5th level, your character dies and simulation/run ends. You will restart with a fresh run.

Here is a Reddit post detailing the corruption timer. What this shows is that by default the game starts out with longer early levels (1 to 3 being ~15min each) but as you complete objectives, early levels get shorter and higher levels get longer (4 to 5 being ~18min).

Modding

At the bottom of this guide are some links to some mods. They are easy to install, just place the .pak file in your /Prey/Whiplash/GamesSDK/Precache/ folder (note the "whiplash" directory, this is Mooncrash).

If you are familiar with xml files, you can try modding the game yourself to give you the advantages you desire. Here is a useful guide to modding Prey: https://rosodudemods.wordpress.com/prey-modding-guide/

Examples:
- Set corruption timer length and how much hp/damage typhons get at each corruption level
- Set character starting equipment (ie. if you want a character to always start with a propulsion pack or psychoscope)
- Give abilities to a character (ie. you can give all character access to suit modification for more inventory and chipset space)
- Modify abilities to have increased range and damage or lower the psi cost and cooldown
- Make all characters unlocked from the get go (unsure how this affects "unlock" achievements)

Emails/books/notes/lore

The books/emails/notes/lore is very limited and never changes between playthroughs. You will gain access to some new emails/lore when doing story missions, but beyond the first reading of emails/notes, you don't gain anything in future playthroughs. There are no keycodes in emails.

There are keycodes in notes. The only note that really matters is one found in one of the Pytheas Labs rooms near the Mimic Portal and has the keycode for the weapons room (which can also be accessed with a boltcaster or remote manipulation). Occasionally the game will hide notes to nearby safes under boxes.

All rooms which require a keycard can be accessed except for one near the Moonworks escape pods (unlocked in Vijay's story). This typically requires you to loot many bodies until you find the last person to use the keycard. Sometimes the keycard panel will tell you the last person to have the keycard so you can find them via a security station.

Loadout

Once you unlock the 3_ASIC MicroMiner+ chipset, buy it (1,000 points) for every character every run.

Until you unlock the mule (3rd playthrough), don't spend too many points on gear. Once the mule is unlocked, you'll likely have good weapons from Joan (engineer + max weapon repair) and lots of items, thus you never need to buy anything.

For Joan, buy a gun and some ammo, a medkit. That should be enough until you find/craft the weapons/items you need. Her turret and electrostatic ability will help you out otherwise.

Use the remaining sim points on neuromods (4,000 points) and store leftovers in the mule before you escape with a character. This method combined with crafting neuromods in game will allow you to gain 60+ neuromods a run. Based on the in-game "neuromods spent", to unlock all character abilities requires ~400 neuromods.

Achievements

See other achievement guides for hints/tips. There are 2 achievements that require you to complete the game (finish all Kasma objectives) with all neuromods installed for every character and have a minimum of 50,000 sim points stored / unused.

Psychoscope

You can get most scans at corruption level 1, however I've noticed that the poltergeist did not spawn at corruption level 1. So if you mod the game to never increase beyond level 1, you won't be able to get all typhon abilities unlocked for the galaxy brain achievement.

Save(scumming)

Save data on Windows: C:\Users\[your user name]\Saved Games\Arkane Studios\Prey

Back that folder up (the entire Prey folder to be safe) if you wish to have the ability to restart from the back-up save point (ie. you back it up after clearing with the engineer).

Alternatively if things don't go the way you want, you can force exit the game (alt+f4 on Windows) and relaunch the game. The game will restart you at the beginning of the current area (which is the only time it saves).

If you die, you can force exit the game before you go to the "earned sim points" and try again.

If you select a character and "launch", and then remember you forgot something (ie. a propulsion pack or a chipset), you can force exit the game at the end of the loading screen before you "press any button to continue" and when you start the game up again, you will be back at the character selection screen. As above, the game only saves when you load into the area.
Preythrough
1st

The first playthrough you can do nothing but escape. This unlocks Joan (the best character by far).

2nd

The second playthrough you have access to every area, so pick Joan and head to the Crew Annex. Fully clear the area and loot everything. Head to the shuttle and unlock the objective to get the pilot skill, then head to that object. After you get the pilot skill but before escaping, clear out the rest of the areas. In the process you will unlock Riley (find her body in her office in Pytheas Lab) and Vijar (find his body randomly).

Note: I recommend getting repair 2 asap so you can repair doors and weapons. Getting more inventory space is another good neuromod to aim for early on. Finding Riley early on gets you the psychoscope which can be used to scan and unlock abilities for other classes.

Pitfall #2: Before leaving with the shuttle, dump all your items from your inventory into a storage container. The storage containers contents will be saved and Andrius can find/use the items. Otherwise the items are lost when you escape.

Now play Andrius and escape via the escape pod (you may need a escape pod navigation item).

3rd

The third playthrough has 4 characters unlocked and you will also gain two new summon abilities. One of these is a droid "Mule" that you can summon and store items in. These items can be accessed between characters. Start with Joan (engineer) and clear out all areas once again. Convert anything you don't use in the recycler and fabricate neuromods. Complete Joans' story mission and escape via the shuttle.

Pitfall #3: Save 5 drinks, 5 food and 1 antirad for the mass driver objective (don't recycle them). These items do not respawn for other characters so if you use/destroy them all in this playthrough, then you cannot use the mass driver for Vijay's story unlock.

Pitfall #4: Before escaping, put all your items in the Mule. This freezes time, so if you have a timed escape (such as the mass driver), you can dump your items without worrying about the clock still ticking.

Now pick Riley or Vijay and complete their story unlock (both are escape methods). When playing Riley, get the neuromod to get more resources from typhon corpses and loot any corpses you pass by (previously killed by Joan). Remember to store your inventory in the Mule before escaping.

Finally use Andrius and escape via the escape pod.

4th

The fourth playthrough plays the same as the 3rd but you need to repair the mimic portal with Joan. Start with Joan, clear out all areas, put food/drink/antirad in mass driver, repair the mimic portal, store goods in mule, escape via shuttle. Then pick Riley, complete her story, store goods in mule, escape via brain machine. Then pick Vijay, complete his story (this unlocks Claire), store goods in mule, escape via mass driver.

Now Claire is unlocked. Pick her, head over to the mimic portal and hack it but don't use it. Store goods in mule and escape via escape pod to unlock her story.

Pitfall #5: Don't escape via mimic portal with Claire. It can only be used once and we need that for Andrius.

Finally pick Andrius and escape via the mimic portal to unlock his story. You'll get an achievement for escaping with all 5 crew in one run.

5th

Pitfall #6: DO NOT complete all stories (Andrius, Claire) until you have neuromoded every character (for the Galaxy Brain achievement) and have a minimum of 50,000 sim points stored/unused (for another achievement). If you complete all stories ("Kasma Objectives") at this time, the game ends and resets.

Pitfall #7: Andirus' (volunteer) story requires you to escape with the escape pod, so leave that exit open. If you escape using any other method, you are force killed. Lovely game design. Also keep some delay.loop items because the corruption level is automatically increased to level 4. Also, if you haven't got the "leave with all 5 crew members" objective yet, then note that Andrius' story kills him at the end, effectively stopping any 5 crew exit run.

The fifth playthrough is the same as the 3rd and 4th. Start as Joan, clear out all areas, put food/drink/antirad in mass driver, repair the mimic portal, store goods in mule, escape via shuttle. Then play as Claire, do her story, hack the mimic portal and escape via the mimic portal. Then play as Vijay or Riley, escape via mass driver and brain machine respectively.

At this point, it is unlikely you have all the neuromods for all characters, so pick Andrius and escape via the escape pod without doing his story.

6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th

Repeat until you have all neuromods. Don't spend less than 50,000 sim points when starting a run. Joan: clear, mass driver, mimic portal, mule, escape. Claire: hack, mule, escape. Riley: mule, escape. Vijay: mule, escape.

When you have all neuromods and 50,000 sim points stored/unused, then complete Andrius story and escape via the escape pod. The game finishes (and the ending plays). The simulation resets and you can do everything again if you want...
Files
Timer mod

Place the patch file in /steam/steamapps/common/Prey/Whiplash/GamesSDK/Precache/

Level 1 only: https://www.nexusmods.com/prey2017/mods/58
Slower timer: https://www.nexusmods.com/prey2017/mods/36 (containers other mods to make the game easier)
For the slower timer, you can unzip the patch pak file, then delete everything in that folder except for ark/doomclock.xml. Now rezip the folder and rename it with the .pak extension.

Seems like the Level 1 only mod is removed, link is invalid.

Small correction: Poltergeist spawns at corruption level 1, I just got one in the center of the crater.

This is a great guide !

Small error: at the end of playthrough 2, you need to reset the simulation, not escape with Andrius (you can't, since you already escape with him in this run).

This sounds so complicated but i'll give it a go. I'm really worried about somehow ending the game and my progress being reset. Hopefully I can get all the achievements. Thanks.

I did everything right until Andrius story. How TF could I know you cannot kill typhons after the memory chip?

Don't know if they made a change or something but someone escaping via the escape pod before Andrius now no longer disrupts his story mission. It seems that when you pick up his memory marker the place where the original pod used to be would become corrupted (similar to the first run) and another fresh pod (with a navigation chip!) would spawn next to it, enabling Andrius to get in and finish his objective.
I guess the new-pod-spawn thing is still legit as "Its all in your head":)
