1. Preparing the model

First of all, you need to prepare the cosmetic to be paintable.

a. RMB on the cosmetic, then click on "Add Override Materials"

b. RMB again on the cosmetic, then go to "Show in Element Viewer" > "Model"

c. LMB on the "+" on Materials

You'll see now that there's two subsections: one normal (the red) and one blu. You understood correctly: you can customize how the cosmetic appears in both red and blu, so you dont't have to go back and forth in this section.

d. LMB on the base color and put the rgb codes here:

Remember to always put the rgb color on the $colortint_base string.
If you picked a single color, put the same rgb code in both red and blu sections, but if you picked a team color, don't forget to put the right code to the right place. Might be a bit awkward to have a red team color for a blu player, wouldn't it ?

3. To finish...

After you've put your colors, if your player is still in red, you can switch it to blu.
Simply right click on the model > "Set Skins" > "0" (for red) or "1" (for blu).

Repeat for every cosmetic you have, and don't forget to also do it for the player itself.

And voilà ! Your character is ready.

damn thx know i dont have to do my color cuz seriesly i made my war pig ultra yellow and not gold while my beard was yellow green am fucking blind but thx for showing me this :D

somewhere on the workshop are colorable class model texture things, go look for those and follow the instructions on the page

how do i do this on things other than cosmetics? what if i want a purple scout?

clic on the color you want to edit, it opens this window

Also - the Oranges and browns are a mistake - it brings me to white every time
