First things first
Before you head into this guide, make sure to start a new game in your Steam version and save at least once so all the necessary folders and files are being generated by the Steam version.
Now for the tricky part.
1. Open your Windows Explorer by right clicking your Start button and choosing "Explorer".
2. Go to C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Local. (You can also simply type %AppData% into the adress bar and go to Local, because you'll end up in Roaming that way.)
3. Now go to Packages\DeepSilver.ProjectWindfall_hmv7qcest37me\SystemAppData\wgs\.
4. Inside, you will find a very long folder with lots of random letters and numbers. Open it.
5. Once opened, you will find a similar folder, all lots of numbers and letters. Open that one as well.
6. Now you will find a longer list of similarly named folders. What you want to do now is to sort your folders by date and open the most recent.
7. Inside, you will find a file with no file extension of 7-11 MB size as well as a smaller file (3-10KB). Copy the bigger file and paste it onto your desktop.
8. Head over to your desktop and rename the long file to "m3_quick_save".
9. Now copy that file and go to C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\Saved Games\metro exodus\RANDOM_NUMBER_STRING
10. Delete m3_quick_save and any m3_auto_save files.
11. Paste your own m3_quick_save file you just grabbed from your desktop in there.
12. Done!

You can now head into your Steam version of the game and start where you left off in the MS Store version!

I wish I've read this before uninstalling the game though... DAMN.

Damn, I guess I'm out of luck. The windows store kept making doubles of my games folders and filled up my hard drive really quickly so I uninstalled them. I guess I'll just play through everything again...

The only comment on this - because I found out the hard way - Do this BEFORE you uninstall Metro from XGP. As the save files get deleted along with the installation and you won't be able to find the 'DeepSilver.ProjectWindfall...' directory. It seems obvious but not knowing the location of the save files I expected save data to be preserved even after the installation was removed.

Now I'll have to play through the whole game again before I can have a go at New Game+ on a third run! Torn feelings about that because it WAS a fantastic game (technical issues on XGP aside).

Helpful info, thanks.
