This "guide" was based on my experience while going for Brutal Fungus somewhere around March 2020. I'm not sure if this is complete as i haven't played since then, but if this helps you a little bit - you're welcome. It may take you some tries, as fungus is quite RNG dependant. It should let you beat it around 98-99% of cure progress.
I believe i was using this outdated guide to condensate my winning strategy.
Please let me know if this worked for you, if you managed to beat fungus on mega brutal with help of this guide.

Walkthrough

Genes:
flexible, pick what you want

Start in Egypt.
Go for:
(Devolve any symptoms that will randomly unlock)
1 Spore Burst
Drug Resistance 1
Genetic Hardening 1
Genetic Hardening 2
1 Spore Burst
Cold Resistance 1
Cold Resistance 2
Heat Resistance 1
Water 1
1 Spore Burst
1 Spore Burst
(Devolve any symptoms that will randomly unlock up to this point)
-by now you should be known as new disease-
Insomnia
Paranoia
Rash
Seizures
Insanity
1 Spore Burst
Sweating
Skin Lesions
-by now you should be placed on WHO watchlist and you will soon be at 1/6 Global Priority Level-
(if you are lucky you should be in half of World countries and 1/4 population should be infected)
Livestock 1
-Global Priority level 2/3-
Air 1
Blood 1
Bird 1
1 Spore Burst
-Global Priority 4/5-
Coughing
Pneumonia
Genetic Reshuffle 1
Necrosis
Inflammation
-Global Priority Level 6-
Paralysis

I refused to do more spore bursts in early game to not get spotted too early, and still have option to get to closed countries in mid-late game. I think it greatly depends on RNG, but i am glad it helped you even a little bit.

Hey! I tried going along with your guide about 5 times and it always ended with me loosing by a little. So I believe going step by step with your guide does not help.

Then I went by the guide but freely, so I got more spore burts in the begining and more lethal symptomes earlier in the end, which lead into me winning Fungus on Mega Brutal with about 70% cure and using all upgrades listed in this guide above.
