You might have realized by now that there is no way to change game language from the game settings so, for this to work, you have to edit two game files and this will require some knowledge about your OS. I advice to create backup for those files.

First, find the following files:
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Batman Arkham City GOTY\BmGame\Config\Launcher.ini
- C:\Users\<Your_User>\Documents\WB Games\Batman Arkham City GOTY\BmGame\Config\UserEngine.ini

You can open these files using your default MS Notepad.
Launcher.ini
On Launcher.ini, find these lines:
default=Int en=Int fr=Fra it=Ita de=Deu es=Esn es-MX=Esm pl=Pol ru=Rus pt=Por

For a backup, copy these lines and paste them below the original. Add ";" at the start of all the lines on the original lines, this will mark those lines as programmer comments and the game will not actually read them. Now, on the lines you pasted, change the last three character with the letters for the desired game language. This step is just an extra measure to force the game to use the language you want it to use.

Here's an example if I want the in-game language to be Russian:
;default=Int ;en=Int ;fr=Fra ;it=Ita ;de=Deu ;es=Esn ;es-MX=Esm ;pl=Pol ;ru=Rus ;pt=Por default=Rus en=Rus fr=Rus it=Rus de=Rus es=Rus es-MX=Rus pl=Rus ru=Rus pt=Rus
UserEngine.ini
Now on the UserEngine.ini file, simply use the same three characters code after "Language=". Here's an Example of what it would look like if I wanted the in-game language to be Russian:
[Engine.Engine] bOnScreenKismetWarnings=FALSE bSubtitlesEnabled=FALSE PhysXLevel=2 bPhysXPatched=True Language=Rus

Thanks man, there's nothing more annoying than listening to something dubbed. It's the original language that really matters

After all changes suggested were applied, the only way that I got my game running in English was to use another shortcut to the BmLauncher.exe file.

Since this was getting me very mad, at not really playing in English at all, I went to WB forum to search for some info as well, since the stick post and others didn't work to me, maybe I did something wron gor not, I don't know, but will tell what I did to make the game in English:

- Open UserEngine.ini AND bmengine.ini(\Users\xxxx\Documents\WB Games\Batman Arkham City\BmGame\Config) and change the

Language=

to what language you want as seen in the first post, if you want in English, as I did, change to:

Language=int

It's important to change both files, since one overwrite the other

Hi Dan. As your tips couldn't help me, I looked elsewhere, and got this nice workaround in the Steam Forum:
when editing [GameFolder]\BmGame\Config\Launcher.ini, right BEFORE those lines where you choose the language,

;For testing localisation un-comment one of the lines below.
;
;ForceUseCulture=en
;ForceUseCulture=fr
;ForceUseCulture=it
;ForceUseCulture=de
;ForceUseCulture=es
;ForceUseCulture=pl
;ForceUseCulture=ru

just remove the ; before the first line so it reads:

;For testing localisation un-comment one of the lines below.
;
ForceUseCulture=en
;ForceUseCulture=fr
;ForceUseCulture=it
;ForceUseCulture=de
;ForceUseCulture=es
;ForceUseCulture=pl
;ForceUseCulture=ru

And voilá! :-)

Also, just to be sure, I deleted the pesky Steam link on my desktop and replaced with a shortcut to [GameFolder]\Binaries\Win32\BatmanAC.exe (or you can use BmLauncher.exe instead, if you want to play with the configs LIKE A DAMN FIDDLE!) B-)

Hope it helps. Cheers!

eWave, please let me know if you get your problem fixed and how you did it. This guide is really old and probably outdated. Patches must have changed the process, or that might be because Games for Windows Live is being shut down on PC.

Does not work for the French version ; the "UserEngine.ini" file is different, and even adding the "language" parameter doesn't change anything.
Furthermore, language seems hard-coded as using the "ForceUseCulture" supposedly present in "Launcher.ini" to test internationalization doesn't do squat.
