Altar of Freedom: Seven Pines

Late May 1862

George McClellan's Army of the Potomac inches closer to Richmond, hoping to capture the rebel capital and put an end to the war. Joseph E. Johnston, in overall command of the Army of Northern Virginia, has spent most of the campaign delaying McClellan.

Now however, he has decided to turn and attack the Union Army, as heavy rains have divided the Union forces on either side of the Chickahominy River. Johnston hopes to attack and overwhelm the isolated Union detachment south of the river.

This is the first battle of the "Seven Days" campaign and the only one where Johnston is in overall command. He was seriously wounded at the end of this battle and Robert E. Lee took command.
