These are the tips I have discovered are useful to me when I play Last Year: After Dark as survivor.

Survivor Tips
IN GENERAL:
  • Use spells from the Arcanum. It definitely comes in handy if you have favoured a specific class.
  • Please do not disconnect from the game, there is a reason for respawn closets and it just ruins the fun for all y'know?
  • Push-to-talk just became a thing, use voice chat more often because most of the time, text chat is invisible to the naked-eye.

ARCANUM:
  • [Medic]: Getting the purple spell "Carpet Bomb" and using it with your pipe bomb has enough damage to take out a whole killer's health. The carpet bomb basically allows any item that can be thrown (molotov, pipebomb, etc.) to spawn in more of the same item after it lands on the floor.
  • [All classes]: Hate traps? Get the spell "Tread Lightly" or/ and "Nimble Feet."
  • [Assault]: There are a lot of spells the caters for this class, personally I have not tried all of them so experiment with the spells to see which works best for you.
  • [Medic]: If you're a solo healing (and I know you won't know unless you're in a 5 survivor group) then use the spell "Healing Hands" to do more healing.

DEALING WITH KILLERS / WORKING AS A TEAM:
  • If the killer is Strangler (man with hook) please group up, splitting up for scraps isn't worth it if the death count is easily obtainable for the killer.
  • Do not attack a killer solo or even in a duo (the exception is if they're incredibly low on hp). All classes can craft an item that does not deal with the killer head-on. If you can craft any of these items (molotov - assault, pipe bomb - medic, proxy mine - technician, shotgun - scout) then use it first, before all chaos is let loose.
  • You may not remember all the ambush locations, however you will definitely memorise them from the amount times you've died in them (*cough cough* me). Giant and Spider are the most difficult ones to identify because there is no indication of what it looks like, but for Strangler, avoid vents, and for Slasher, avoid glass ceilings.
  • Killers cannot place traps or respawn from predator mode (when they're invisible) if they're in survivors sight. Hence, use this to your advantage by spreading out in a room when someone is completing an objective or save.
  • Not a lot of people know this, but running reveals your location.
  • If you see spiders exiting green egg sacs, you can destroy it to stop them from respawning.
  • If you're moving as a team, have a scout lead the team to avoid any ambush spots, reveal gassed scraps or to warn if the killer has spawned in physical form.
  • Depending on the situation, it is best to work on the gate until it reaches 99% (or 78% because if you go any further than 78%, it will automatically open). This can allow time for survivors to be rescued if required. Hence, if everyone escapes, you can receive a 10% chance to earn a legendary card :) <mark272>

CLASS TIPS:
  • [Scout]: I recommend going for objective items because you can craft adrenaline and get to places easier (but if the killer is strangler, do not attempt to go alone).
  • [Scout]: You can use smoke bombs to save people (from giant's grasp, strangler's hook, etc.), just make sure to crouch to avoid the smoke and be aware that killers cannot crouch to avoid it, but instead to move out of the smoke.

  • [Medic]: Shockers are op af, use it to save people or paralyze the killer for assaults/ other classes to do damage.
  • [Medic]: If most of your teammates are injured, try to heal up survivors until they just reach green, or even yellow to ration the healing.
  • [Medic]: Stay on the assault and heal them when they are attacking the killer, unless you know for certain that both of you guys will not survive, then make a run for it.
  • [Medic]: If the the assault has just got down by the killer (and your team is with you), keep healing the assault, as it distracts the killer to try to kill the assault, while the team gets some damage off the killer.

  • [Medic & Scout]: If you have opened the gate, crafting smoke bombs and shockers can ensure everyone's escape.

  • [Assault]: When you smack the killer with your pipe (or bat), try moving around the killer as it may give you a higher chance to avoid their abilities (Strangler - hook, Giant - grab).
  • [Assault]: Do not attack Slasher alone, he does way too much damage for a healer to out-heal it.
  • [Assault]: If you know the killer is strangler, do not craft a helmet because it a waste of scrap since the strangler can hook you (with the helmet on) to instantly get rid of it instead of pulling you with the hook, craft a bat instead.

  • [Technician]: Spider has been nerfed, but can still tank through a team to obtain one kill, however I feel that technician is the best counter for Spiders during chases. Just barricade them doors up if the killer is on you or do it save others.
  • [Technician]: It may not seem like it, but turrets can be life savers at times, always place it down when completing objectives and saves.
  • [Technician]: Use proxy mines wisely because the proxy mine does not instantly go off. Try to trick the killer into the proxy mine, such as placing a turret and putting the proxy on it, so if the killer goes to the turret to destroy it, 'KaBoOm' :)

  • [Assault & Technician]: Both classes can craft items that uses fire as their primary damage source. If the killer is low, or a whole team is able to take out the killer, lighting the killer on fire ensures that the killer cannot despawn into predator mode for a couple of seconds.

  • [All classes, besides Medic]: If you're low on hp, and the killer is on you and a medic decides to heal you, do not turn around or stop running (unless the killer is low on hp, or majority of the team is with you, but still...). If you stop or turn around to "fight" the killer, please keep in mind that the medic is also behind you, taking damage from the killer whilst healing you, and hence can get downed.
