Introduction
This is a quick reference guide, so only the most important information has been included. The old translation for some names has been included in brackets. Information which has been marked with spoiler formatting contains quite major end game spoilers, please be careful. After the glossary is a day by day summary of all three characters experiences in the town. Obviously lots of spoilers there too.
A
Abattoir - The large round building where the bulls are butchered. Blood has pooled underneath due to centuries of butchering, it can create a potent cure.

Ace of Diamonds Caravan - A large travelling carnival. Anna Angel and Var were two of it's 500 members. It was implicated in many crimes, including mass child kidnapping and murder. Many of its members were executed.

Adherents - See The Bound.

Aglaya Lilich - An Inquisitor. She is Maria Kain's sister, but they despise each other. She seems to side with the Bachelor but she really supports the Haruspex.

Commander Alexander Block - A famed and honest general. He is currently a Commander in the civil war.

Alexander Saburov - The head of the Saburov family. He takes control of the town during the early stages of the plague. He sheltered Clara.

The Albino - A strange steppe creature, made of clay and bone. He is Clara's brother, born on the same day. It is non-aggressive but being close to it has a lethal effect on humans. The Bachelor tries to kill it, believing it to be a manifestation of the plague.

Andrey Stamatin - He is an architect who fled the capital. He owns The Broken Heart pub, he and his brother Peter built much of the town.

Anna Angel - A former member of the Ace of Diamonds Caravan. She moved into Willow Mallow's house during the first outbreak. She killed off the family and took the house for herself. She adopted an orphan girl Vera Verbah, who subsequently went missing. Anna began wearing the girl's hair as a wig.

Artemy Burakh - The Haruspex. He returned to the town after 10 years away after receiving a letter from his father Isodor Burakh. He is a Menkhu and a member of the Kin. He spent time in the army whilst he was away from the Town. Some say he enjoys killing a little too much.

The Atrium - The area south of the Kain's houses.

Aspity - (Ospina) A woman who hides members of the Kin who escaped from the Termitary. She was born during the first outbreak. She tells Clara that she too was born from the earth, meaning she is probably a Steppe creature like Clara.

Aurochs - Extinct cattle which are half human, half bull. Said to be the manifestation of Bos Turokh.

Ayan - A herb bride who helps the Bachelor.
B
The Bachelor - See Daniil Dankovsky.

The Backbone - The area where the town hall is located.

Bad Grief - (Gryph) A playful gang leader who is involved in arms smuggling. A childhood friend of The Haruspex. He admits to enjoy killing for fun. He is being controlled by Older Vlad.

Barley the Barber - A gang leader who opposed Bad Grief during the plague.

Boddho - The female personification of the earth. The land is her body, and thus cannot be dug into. Worshipped by the Steppe natives.

Bos Turokh - A bull deity who created the world after eating Suok. Worshipped by Steppe natives.

The Bound - Simon's closest 24 friends. Now they are ones the three healers must protect in order to further their cause. They have split into three groups, The Utopians, The Termites and The Humbles.

Bridge Square - The area where The Cathedral, The Kain's houses, Var's house, Eve's house and the the Polyhedron are located.

The Broken Heart Pub - A pub owned by Andrey Stamatin.

The Bull Project - The meat processing industry (people, areas and buildings). Controlled by the Olgimskys.

Butchers - Members of the Kin who work at the Abattoir. How human they are is debatable. They traditionally are the only ones permitted to dig in the earth or make wells.

The Cape - The area where the Nina and Victoria's tombs are located.

Capella - The 15 year old daughter of Older Vlad. Her real name is Victoria Olgimskaya Jr. She is destined to become a Mistress.

The Cathedral - It is said to be cursed because it lacks a soul. It becomes a shelter during the outbreak. The Inquisitor also set up her headquarters there. Eve commits suicide here in order to give the building a soul but she fails.

The Cemetery - Grace lives here.

The Changeling - See Clara (The Devotress)

Children of Boddho - Steppe natives and "spirits conjured by the earth." They sacrifice blood to the ground to help her grow.

The Chine - The area where Yuria's house is located.

Circle of Suok - The fighting ring outside of the Termitary.

Clara - A mysterious young girl who has the power to heal or hurt people with her bare hands. She is being born from the earth. She has the power to bring her lies to reality. She creates her evil twin sister from her lies. Her sister then begins spreading the plague. She is aware that the events of the game are not real. In her ending she takes up with Commander Block.

The Crucible - The gated area where the Kain's three houses are located.

The Crude Sprawl - Where Aspity's house and the Abattoir are located.

Daniil Dankovsky - A Bachelor of Thantology (the study of death) who came to the town to meet Simon Kain. He was hoping to further his research and have his laboratory Tanatika reopened by the government.

Dogheads - A gang of children led by Kahn who wear dog masks.
E
The Earth Quarter - The Eastern Quarter. Contains The Tanners, The Skinners, The Hindquaters, The Crude Sprawl, The Factories, and the Cemetery.

Eve Yan - A young woman who gives the Dankovsky a place to stay. She eventually commits suicide by jumping from the Cathedral in order to give the building a soul. It is unknown if she succeded but her ghost may be found there on day 12.

Executor - Theatre performers who wear bird masks. They often break the fourth wall but they are human. One of them is a spy for the powers that be.

The Factories - (The Works) Where Andrey's pub and the Haruspex's den are located.

The Flank - The area where Lara's house is located.

The Foreman - The one who controls the Abattoir. See Oyun.
G
Georgiy Kain - The head of the Kain family and Simon's brother. He is the town's judge. He eventually allows his brother's spirit to possess his body.

Grace - (Laska) The grave-keeper who lives in the cemetery. Her father forced her to drink Twyrine when she was young which had a terrible effect on her mind and body.

The Gorkhon- The river which splits into the Gullet and the Guzzle as it flows through the town.

Gullet - The eastern river in the town.

The Gut - The area where the Olgimskys' house is located.

Guzzle - The western river in the town.

Haruspex - (Harusupecs) see Artemy Burakh. In Ancient Rome they were Religious officials who interpreted omens by inspecting the entrails of animals.

Herb Brides - The females of the Worm species. They resemble human females. When they dance, herbs grow. They are traded between Odonghe.

Herman Orff - A heartless Inquisitor.

The Hindquaters - Where Rubin and Anna Angel's houses are located.

The Humbles - Clara's Adherents. They are Alexander and Katerina Saburov, Bad Grief, Yulia, Lara, Anna Angel, Aspity, Oyun and Rubin.

The Hunchback - See Var.

Impostress - See Clara.

Inquisitor - Specialists employed by the Powers That Be. They have great authority and an ability to solve complex problems. Due to their power they are greatly feared.

Isidor Burakh - A healer and Menkhu. He fought off the first appearance of the Sand Plague. He is Artemy Burakh's father. He had great knowledge of the Steppe and its culture. He was well loved by both the towns people and the Kin.Isidor did not die to the plague. He was in fact killed Oyun after he attempted to enter the Abattoir in order to make Panaceas from the blood of an Auroch. When Artemy wanders the Steppe or the caves under the well, he can hear his fathers voice, implying his spirit lives on.
K
Katerina Saburova - She is the town's only living Mistress. She sees visions and is addicted to morphine. She was unable to have children and this reflects her relationship with Clara. She believed she had the powers of a true Mistress but in fact it was the Rat Prophet who was giving her her visions.

Khan - Real name Caspar Kain, he is Victor's son. He leads and protects the children and dogheads inside the Polyhedron.

The Kin - Steppe natives who worship Bos Turokh. They live in the Termitary.

The Knots - The middle section of the town. Its areas are The Spleen, The Marrow, The Chine, The Backbone, The Maw, The Flank, The Gut, The Warehouses and The Station.

Lara Ravel - A woman who tries to establish a shelter in the town. A childhood friend of The Haruspex. Her father was killed by Commander Block.

The Law - The natural Law, the will of Boddho. Steppe spirits are said to be created to preserve it. Clara and her bound wish to preserve it. The Polyhedron is an affront to it.

Licka - A doghead who was forced to betray Notkin and Bad Grief.

Lines - Connections between physical and spiritual things which only the Kin can see. By opening bodies the Kin can see the connections between things.

The Lump - The Olgimskys' house.
M
Maria Kain - Victor Kain's daughter. She has painful visions as she is to become a Mistress. The townspeople believe she can perform miracles.

Mark Immortell - He is the director of the Theatre. Some say he is a manifestation of the Theatre itself.

Mark Karminsky - An Inquisitor with a fearful reputation.

The Marrow - The area where the Theatre is located.

Masks - See Executors and Tragedians.

The Maw - The area where Vlad the Younger's empty house is.

Menkhu - A special caste who are the only ones allowed to cut open human and animal bodies. The body is considered perfectly sacred in Steppe culture. Isidor and Artemy are Menkhu.

Mistresses - Women with the ability to predict the future. They cannot lie. Nina Kaina, Victoria Olgimskaya and Katerina Saburova were the former Mistresses. Marin Kaina and Capella are to become the new Mistresses. Their visions are physically painful. Clara may also have the power of a Mistresses but Katerina must die first.

Murky - (Mishka) An autistic young orphan girl who helps the Haruspex.

Nina Kaina - Victor Kain's deceased wife. She was a feared cruel Mistress while alive but 15 years later is worshipped as a goddess. She had houses torn down on a whim, and broke apart families for a joke.

Notkin - A young boy and leader of a gang of children called The Soul-and-a-Halves.
O
Older Vlad Olygimsky - (Big Vlad) He owns the Bull Project and controls the Termitary. He controls the black market in the town via Bad Grief. He was aware the plague was coming in summer, but told no one.

Odongh - A caste of Worm who is tasked with driving cattle from the Steppe to the Abattoir. Only Odonghe can mate with Herb Brides.

Oynon - A term of respect meaning "wise one."

Oyun - The foreman of the Abbatoir and a Warden of the Kin. He is the intermediary between the Olgimsky's and the Order. He killed Isidor. Eventually replaced by The Haruspex. He is weak and does not know the Lines.
P
Panacea - A cure created by the Haruspex. Made from the blood found deep beneath the Abattoir.

Peter Stamatin - Genius architect, Twyrine addict, and Andrey's younger brother. He was visited by Goddess of Beauty and tried to construct a non-house for her. The result was the Polyhedron and the Stair Ways to the Sky.

The Polyhedron - The strange tower beside the Kain's house. Thousands of children are successfully hiding from the disease inside. To adults it appears to be made of paper, to children it appears to be made of glass. Peter Stamatin's master piece. It was built to house and focus souls. Once inside one is able to explore ones dreams and imagination as if they where reality. But it is easy to become lost. Those inside can supposedly see all the way to the capital. Its 300 meter long foundation screw punctured the earth and caused the blood under the Abattoir to rise to the surface. The Bachelor theories this is the cause of the plague.

The Powers That Be - An group of individuals which seem to have ultimate authority. After entering the Polyhedron the Bachelor and Clara discover they are simply two young children playing in a sand pit. Revealing that the town and everyone in it are simply figments of two children's imagination.

Prosectorium - Rubin's anatomical dissection laboratory.

The Quarters - The three areas of the town, The Earth, The Knots and the Stone Yard.
R
Railway - Leads to the capital, its construction was greatly opposed.

Ragi Barrow - A mound on the Steppe where rites are performed.

Rat Prophet - Half man half rat who lives under the Theatre. He visits Katerina at night and causes her prophecies.

The Ripper - A rumoured serial killer. In fact it was the Sand Plague who was doing the killing.

The Rod - The Saburov's house.

The Ruling Families - The Kains, the Olgimskayas and the Saburovs. Formerly united under Simon Kain.

Sand Plague - (Sand Dirt, Sand Pest) The disease threatening the town. The first outbreak occurred 5 years ago and was halted by Isidor.

Shabnak-Adyr - An evil female spirit made of clay and bone who is said to spread the Sand Plague.

Shelter - Lara's house.

Shmowder - Dangerous drugs created by children from a random mix of other drugs. They can cure the plague.

Silent House - An infected house.

Simon Kain - A man who is supposedly over 150 years old. He was well loved as the leader of the town. His spirit lives on inside his brother Georgiy.

The Skinners - Where Isidor and Peter live, also where the Bone Stake and the Termitary are located.

The Soul-and-a-Halves - A gang of children led by Notkin.

The Spleen - An area south of Yuria's house with a Stairway to Heaven.

Stairway to Heaven - Strange non-buildings designed by Peter Stamatin. Designed to enshrine a God of Beauty.

Stanislav Rubin - (Stakh Rubin) The town's doctor and mortician. Also called Stakh. A childhood friend of The Haruspex. He was Isidor's student. He steals Simon's body on the pretence that he is looking for a cure when in fact he wishes examine it for traces of immortality.

The Steppe - A large area of flat grassland.

The Steppe Alphabet - The 28 sigils seen throughout the game are the runes of the Steppe Alphabet. The cattle are branded with them.

Sticky - (Spichka) A plucky young orphan boy. He wants to catch the Albino.

Stillwater - Eve's house.

Stone Yard Quater - The Western part of the town.

Suok - The personification of evil. She lives inside Bos Turokh.

Tanatika - The Bachelor's laboratory in the capital. It was closed by the government, but if the
Bachelor successfully contains the plague, the state may approve its reopening. Unbeknownst to the Bachelor it has already been destroyed by the time he reaches the town.

The Tanners - Where the Saburov's live.

Taya Tycheek - A young girl who lives in the Termitary and who is worshipped as The Mother Superior by the butchers. Her father was the Termitary janitor.

The Termites - The Haruspex's Bound. They are Notkin, Capella, Taya, Grace, Murky, Sticky, Khan.

The Termitary - (The Apiary) The large square building beside the Abttoir where the Butcher and Kin live in communes. Although Older and Younger Vlad claimed otherwise, the Termitary was indeed infected early in the week. Hundreds died.

The Theatre - Located in Spin-a-Yarn Square. Children are not permitted to enter. It becomes a morgue during the plague. The Rat Prophet lives under the Theatre.

Town-on-Gorkhon - The Town.

Tragedians - Members of the Theatre who wear white masks. They deliver messages around the town. They often break the fourth wall, but seem to be human.

Trammel - Yuria's house.

Twyrine - A form of alcohol made from Steppe herbs. It is made by the Kin.
U
The Utopians - The Bachelor's Adherents. They are Eve, Maria, Victor, Georgiy, Andrey, Peter, Mark Immortell, and Younger Vlad Olgimsky.
V
Var The Hunchback - A rich man who once belonged to the Ace of Diamonds Caravan. He "adopted" a young girl named Willow. He will buy human organs from the Haruspex. After the Haruspex kills Willow (the Bachelor is also to blame) he attempts to burn down the town with a gang of arsonists.

Vera Verbah - An orphan girl adopted by Anna Angel. She dissappeared and now Anna wears a wig of her hair.

Victor Kain - Simon and Georgiy's brother, Nina's husband and Casper and Maria's father.

Victoria Olgimskaya - Older Vlad's deceased wife. She was the most powerful Mistress in the town, she was the kind counterpart to Nina's evil.
W
The Warehouses - The area where Bad Grief's nest, Rubin's Hidehout and The Soul-and-a-Half-Fortress are located.

Willows - Anna Angel's house. It really belongs to Willow Mallow.

Willow Mallow (Vera) - A young girl who was raised by Var the Hunchback. She dances at the Pub. The Bachelor, whilst attempting to reunite her with her father, gets her killed by the Haruspex. The Bachelor uses her heart to discover the nature of the Plague. During the first outbreak Anna Angel killed off her family and made her homeless. Anna now lives in her house.

Worms - Creatures who work for the kin. The males are pale and bald headed. The females are called Herb Brides.
Y
Younger Vlad Olygimsky - Older Vlad's son, they share the same name. He wishes to educate the Kin and make them live like the Townsfolk. He ordered the closing of the Termitery dooming those inside to die.

Yulia Lyuricheva - She moved to the town from the Capital to help construct the railroad.
Day by day plot summary
Day 1
Bachelor Dankovski arrives from the capital to meet Simon Kain, a man who supposedly has found the secret to immortality. The Haruspex, Artemy Burakh, returns to the town to find his father, Isidor, has been killed. He kills several men at the train station when they mistake him for his father's killer.
The Bachelor discovers Simon is dead and suspects that he was killed by some sort of plague.
Clara, a mysterious girl wakes up in a grave at the cemetery, she wins the trust of the Sabarov family by healing a wounded man simply by touching him.

Day 2
Prices increase 10 times in shops as panic about the disease spreads. The Bachelor visits Isidor's house and confirms the existence of the disease. The Haruspex receives his inheritance; his fathers research. Clara interrogates the Steppe woman Aspity, finding her not guilty of starting the plague.

Day 3
The first infected district appears. The Bachelor examines the blood of a victim killed by a butcher, the results are inconclusive. The Haruspex begins making experimental cures using Twyrine mixtures and human organs. Clara investigates the child kidnapper Anna Angel, she too is not guilty of causing the plague.

Day 4
The Bachelor advises Governer Saburov to turn the Theatre and Cathedral into a morgue and sanctuary. The Haruspex is apprehended by the police whilst looking for Simon's body. Simon's blood proves to be non-human but of no use in finding a cure. Clara investigates Bad Grief, and discovers he is a murderer working for Older Vlad Olygimsky. But it was the Kin who dumped bodies into the rivers, poisoning the water supply.

Day 5
The Bachelor frees the Haruspex from prison and tasks him with obtaining a fresh human heart. With the heart the Bachelor and Rubin discover that the Plague dies soon after it's host expires. Clara meets the Steppe creature, The Albino on Raga Burrow, and learns she has created a sister and it is she who is spreading the plague.

Day 6
Nearly 400 die in the Cathedral when Clara's sister enters. Enraged that the Haruspex killed his adopted daughter for her heart, Var the Hunchback incites a riot. The Bachelor tests Clara's blood, and discovers she is innocent of infecting the Cathedral. The Haruspex performs the ritual opening of a bull at Raga Burrow, proving that he is the real Warden of the Kin.

Day 7
The Inquisitor Aglaja Lilich arrives and assumes control of the town. Eva Yan
commits suicide by jumping from the Cathedral in the belief that she can give the building a soul. The Bachelor identifies an Executor who has been spying on behalf of "The Powers That Be", he/she is quickly executed by the Inquisitor. The Haruspex receives a sample of blood from under the Abattoir and uses it to create the first panacea. Clara is tested by the Inquisitor and is named as the new Earth Mistress by both Maria and Capella.

Day 8
Whilst investigating the hypothesis that the infection spread from the wells, the Bachelor discovers that Younger Olygimsky sealed the Termitary killing hundreds of the Kin. The Haruspex informs the Kin of this fact and Younger Vlad is sentenced to death. The Bachelor enters the Abattoir to get a sample of the blood but is attacked by Butchers until Commander Block saves him.

Day 9
Fresh from the civil war, Commander Block arrives in the town with two companies of men and heavy artillery.The Bachelor turns his focus to the Polyhedron, he discovers it is a building beyond human understanding and thus must be protected at all costs. The Haruspex begins the first trial to replace the false Foreman Oyun and gain access to the precious blood under the Abattoir. Clara enters the Polyhedron and meets the Powers That Be. They tell her that they are arguing about her role in the town. She is either the weapon of the law, the plague. Or she is one who will choose to work miracles and preserve the town as it is.

Day 10
The body of a giant bull in appears at local park, the worms worship it, but the towns people fear it as an ill omen.The Bachelor discovers that Simon is not dead, he is in fact possessing the body of his brother Georgiy via the power of the Polyhedron. The Haruspex completes the second trial, in order to find out who his father believed must be sacrificed to placate the Kin. Rubin tells Clara that her hands can transform the blood of anyone she touches. Like Simon's and the Abattoir's blood this blood can be used to make a cure.

Day 11
Two thirds of the army have perished to the plague, the group of mutineers forms, causing trouble. Maria undergoes the ritual to become one of the new town Mistresses, women who are able to see the future. The Bachelor obtains the plans for the Poyhedron, discovering that its foundations pierce the earth causing centuries worth of blood from the Abattoir to rise to the surface. He argues that this is the origin of the plague. The Haruspex is tricked by the Foreman to pass through the deadly throat of the Abattoir, but he is bought back from the underworld with Clara's help. He kills the Foreman in hand to hand combat and becomes the Warden of the Kin. (Or Clara convinces the Foreman to sacrifice himself.) Clara asks 7 of her Adherents to sacrifice themselves to give their blood to make a cure.

Day 12

The Inquisitor and The Commander meet to decide the fate of the town.

Entering the Polyhedron, the Bachelor and Haruspex discover that they, the town, and everyone in it is a fiction created by two children (The Powers That Be) playing in a sand pit. They also meet The Developers at the Theatre, who tell the player that the game was a simulation to test what moral choice the player would choose to do.

Endings

The Healers refuse to make a decision - The Plague engulfs the town. Everyone dies.

The Bachelor's choice - The town is obliterated by the Commander's cannons to save the Polyhedron. Maria and the Kains win. The player returns to the theatre to see the dolls of the three healers lifeless on the stage. The play ends.

The Haruspex's choice - The Polyhedron is destroyed, and the blood that spurts forth is used to cure the plague, the town is saved.The Haruspex and The Inquisitor win. The town's future lies in the hands of its children.

Clara's choice - The town and the Polyhedron are saved. Children play happily in the streets. The Powers That Be offer food to the model town in respect. The towns people bow to the sand.

If Clara saves all the Adherents an extra scene plays. The player stands on the theatre looking at the rag dolls of the healers. They acknowledge the players victory through the power of choice.

Nice one! Although, about Aglaya... She is Nina Kaina's sister, not Maria's. Nina's given name is Nina Lilich. If the Inquisitor had been Maria's sister, her name would be Aglaya Kaina, not Aglaya Lilich.

also with the Tanatika, it is spelled in the new translation "Thanatica" and it was actually destroyed on day 6 (half way through the game) as sort of retribution by The Powers That Be for failing to stop the Sand Pest by now

this is great, however i do believe that it is never stated that Artemy ever served in the military, (only Rubin) as he was focused on learning surgery as his father requested
