Don't know I my playthrough they weren't really in love or anything... Just friends like lyla or Finn... I feel like they let go because when they crossed the border, they left their old life behind, accepted that it's now the past. Just re-watch the scene when they at the beach together and Sean and Daniel look at their dad's lighter. In this moment they both remember their old lifes and their journey
