RTCW Upscaled Texture Pack

This is a mod that increases the resolution of most textures by 400% using AI upscaling keeping the original look of the game, just more detailed. The result may not be that dramatic at first glance, but all the pixelation from those VERY small jpeg textures in the game, is now gone and new detail is sometimes generated.

What is this ?

This is a mod that increases the resolution of most textures by 400% using AI upscaling technology, keeping the original look of the game, just more detailed. Also, some original source for textures were identified and replaced with HD versions. The result may not be that dramatic from the screenshots below, but in the game everything looks sharper, more detailed, as a whole.

What is this for ?

This is for anyone wanting to replay the RTCW singleplayer story with the highest graphics possible (when it comes to textures), and wanting the original look of the game. There are many mods out there that introduce HD textures that look far from the original ones, making the game look different.

Instalation

1. You must download the archives below, its 2 archive files from two Google Drive links.

2. Put the files you downloaded, z_RTCWtexpackHD-part1.pk3 and z_RTCWtexpackHD-part2.pk3 , in your game folder "STEAM\steamapps\common\Return to Castle Wolfenstein\Main" next to those other "PK3" files. The game will read it, and apply it.

3. Youre done. Start the game and enjoy.

Misc

I had to split the mod in 2 files, cause the game wouldn't read anything bigger than 2 gb. I highly recommend you check pcgamingwiki, it has a guide on how to improve RTCW graphics, with better resolutions and widescreen patches. This mod has be last updated on 5-12-2021.

FYI: The download links are the wrong way round. The link for Part1 actually points to Part 2 (and vice versa). Just sayin'. :)

Great work, i am curious? How do you use AI to Upscale Textures and is this a cumbersome task?

I removed the rainbow effect in the sky by manually opening the z_RTCWtexpackHD-part2.pk3 as a zip file and navigating to: \textures\skies\. I deleted the files "dimclouds.tga" and "dimclouds2-jpw.tga". These pk3 files are just zip files full of texture images. You can open them and mix/match from other texture packs as you see fit, or just remove things you don't like.

Why can I not get the game to fit my screen? It is either tiny or twice the size of the screen. Any help would be appreciated.

Can you fix the sky? It has color banding badly. I would use PNG or DXT3 for something like that. Also for some textures while you are in there, they could use paint.net a hair of noise to create detail textures that dont have meshing issues.

Trying to get Truform to work through DG Voodoo. There is one way that might work requiring visual studios. Ive forced it to run in OpenGL using another wrapper, but Radeon 8500 emulation wont work. The other method is reputed to have done so correctly in some other Truform relevant app.

also my textures are 100% compatible with MP as well and dont require a totally new folder to be made to use in the game...and by 100% compatible I mean you may install my texture pack into the game then join pretty much any other vanilla server and the server and other connected users dont need to have my textures installed for you to play withem

why use an AI that requires you to run textures threw it multiple times when you can achieve better threw AI that requires just 1 pass?
