How to re-enable blood / acid on weapons

I recently picked up Black Mesa, but was a little sad when I realized there was no blood on weapons like I see in lets-plays. Luckily, I found a way to bring it back!

Type "cl_mdldetailfx_enable 1" in console
Why they removed it
Supposedly, it was removed because it made the game freeze, but I don't notice this at all. If you have any troubles, simply do "cl_mdldetailfx_enable 0"

The beta and some older steam versions still have better blood and physics. Cant pick up headcrabs/bodyparts and paint the walls with blood anymore. Gibs don't even generate blood splats most time.
